Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator has released a few images of Megan Fox and Anna Faris to drum up interest for their May 16th release date. Having been buried under coverage of some sort of blockbuster superhero movie, The Dictator will have to pull a few more tricks out of his sleeve to grab headlines. We’ve already seen the trailer, the opening of the film, a poster for General Aladeen’s (Cohen) visit to New York and the spilling of Kim Jong-Il’s ashes on the red carpet. The Dictator also boasts a solid supporting cast with John C. Reilly, Sir Ben Kingsley, B.J. Novak and J.B. Smoove. But, pictures of Megan Fox and Anna Faris certainly don’t hurt. Hit the jump to check them out along with a few other actors from The Dictator.

The first trailer for Judd Apatow’s fourth directorial effort, This Is 40, has gone online. The film is a semi-spinoff of Apatow’s Knocked Up, as it follows the lives of the characters played by Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. The 40-Year-Old Virgin is a new classic, I was a big fan of Knocked Up, and while Funny People certainly had its issues, I enjoyed it for the most part. That said, this trailer for This Is 40 shows huge promise. We already know that Rudd and Mann have impeccable chemistry, but I love the idea of Apatow tackling the issues of aging and mid-adulthood through his dramedic eye. We get a look at a couple of the bit parts from Jason Segel and Melissa McCarthy (to great comedic effect) and the end showcases Rudd’s penchant for spot-on delivery. It’s safe to say that in a very crowded holiday release schedule, This Is 40 just jumped up towards the top of my most anticipated list.

Seth Green and his crew behind Robot Chicken have already skewered the Star Wars universe several times over with entire specials dedicated to mocking George Lucas and the classic sci-fi saga. Now the stop-motion animated comedy series has their sights set on DC Comics as Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim will present a Robot Chicken special featuring Seth Green as Batman, Robin and Aquaman, Paul Reubens as The Riddler, Neil Patrick Harris as Two-Face, Alfred Molina as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern, Megan Fox as Lois Lane, and Breckin Meyer as Superman. More after the jump!

In a devious effort to get every teenage boy in America to buy a ticket to a movie, Paramount is teaming the fairly good-looking Megan Fox and Zoe Saldana up for the action-heist pic Swindle. Deadline reports that the studio acquired the spec script for Moneyball and The Social Network producer Michael De Luca to develop as a star vehicle for Fox and Saldana. Plot details are being kept firmly under wraps, but apparently the film came about when Fox and Saldana decided they wanted to do a movie together. Both Paramount and Universal pursued the spec script, by Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson, and Fox and Saldana will serve as producers on the project.
Hopefully the film has a decidedly badass quality to it, as it’d be nice to see a female-fronted action film with strong characters. Post-Transformers, Fox has stretched her acting chops with varied projects like Jennifer’s Body and the comedy Friends with Kids. She also stars in Judd Apatow’s next directorial effort, This is Forty. As for Saldana, she’s currently shooting the Star Trek sequel but she recently starred opposite Bradley Cooper in the drama The Words and is in talks to star opposite Christian Bale in the revenge pic Out of the Furnace.

With writer-director Jennifer Westfeldt’s (Kissing Jessica Stein) Friends with Kids opening March 9, we’ve been provided with seven clips from the very funny comedy. Boasting an incredible cast featuring Westfeldt, Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Megan Fox and Edward Burns, Friends With Kids centers on a pair of thirtysomething best friends (Scott and Westfeldt) who observe the toll that having kids has taken on the couples they know and resolve to bypass that stress by having a child and then date other people.
Right after the film premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, I landed exclusive interviews with Megan Fox, Jon Hamm and Adam Scott. Just click the links to read or listen to them. Hit the jump to watch the clips.

A red band trailer for the comedy Friends with Kids has gone online. Written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt, the story centers on two best friends (Westfeldt and Adam Scott) who decide to have a baby together without being in a relationship. The cast is fantastic (Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Edward Burns, Megan Fox, and Chris O’Dowd), and I’m excited to see Scott take on his first leading role. This trailer delves more deeply into the plot and, as it’s red band, there are a few more off-color jokes (who doesn’t like masturbation humor?). The jokes work, and I really like the chemistry between Scott and Westfedlt. I’m looking forward to checking the full film out. You can read Matt’s review here.

The advertising for the ads during the Super Bowl are almost getting more marketing than the actual game itself. We’ve already seen previews from a bevy of the commercials set to debut during the big game, and today you can add The Dictator to that pile. The Super Bowl spot for the film doesn’t contain any new footage besides the intro (with a nice nod to NBC), but this will most likely be the first time many people hear about the new pic from Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen reunites with Borat director Larry Charles for The Dictator, and the film looks to be sufficiently ridiculous. He’s assembled an impressive cast here and I’m excited to see what else Cohen has in store besides gun-infused track races and sex with Megan Fox.

The first trailer for the comedy Friends with Kids has gone online. Written, directed by, and starring Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein), the film boats a fantastic cast that includes Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Megan Fox and Edward Burns. The story centers on a pair of thirtysomething best friends (Scott and Westfeldt) who observe the toll that having kids has taken on the couples they know and resolve to bypass that stress by having a child and then date other people. The trailer looks right up my alley, as it highlights some promising performances, chemistry, and a fair amount of laughs. Matt caught the film at TIFF and wasn’t exactly won over, but Scott has been killing it in supporting roles for years and I’m excited to see him finally take on a lead.

Paramount has released the first trailer for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. Cohen stars as a despot who “risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.” The trailer has a lot of great jokes. Cohen is like Mike Myers if Myers was still funny, relevant, had smarter comedy, and–most importantly–was willing to offend the shit out of people. This trailer doesn’t pull any punches and I love that it’s a green band that will play to families across America this holiday season.

With the craziness that is the Toronto International Film Festival winding down this weekend, things around Collider are slowly shifting back into normalcy (whatever that means). Although I’ll talk more about TIFF after the jump, I’d like to take this space to give Steve, Matt and Phil a big “thumbs up” for a job well done in covering the event. Especially our own Mr. Goldberg who, by my last count, has turned in an impressive 33 film reviews over the last nine days. Kudos, gentlemen. Now, enough with the backpatting…
In this week’s installment, you’ll find our recap of the Raiders of the Lost Ark Los Angeles screening with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford, the first look at Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, interviews with Drive‘s Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, an exclusive with Megan Fox where she discusses (among other things) whether or not she has seen Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and all of our TIFF 2011 coverage in one place. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

One of the things I love about Megan Fox is her honesty. While many celebrities are careful with their answers, if you ask Megan Fox a question, she’ll always tell you exactly what she thinks. So when I sat down with her a few days ago at the Toronto Film Festival for an exclusive interview for writer-director Jennifer Westfeldt’s Friends With Kids (which premiered at TIFF and is really good), I knew it was going to be a great interview.
During our twenty minute conversation we talked about Friends With Kids, how she got involved in Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator, Judd Apatow’s untitled project (also known as This is Forty), her thoughts on doing more comic book movies and what she wants to do in the future. In addition, we talked about whether she had seen Transformers 3, karaoke, Twitter, Facebook and social networking (she didn’t pull any punches on her thoughts), revealed she’s a hard core gamer and you might find her online playing Halo Reach, her Giorgio Armani campaign, and a lot more. Hit the jump to either read or listen to the interview.

Jennifer Westfeldt’s directorial debut Friends with Kids shares some key qualities with her 2001 film Kissing Jessica Stein (which she wrote). Both films are funny, harmless comedies that take an emotionally satisfying and challenging conceit before scampering back to the status quo. Westfeldt puts an interesting twist on the parenting-and-marriage sub-genre by rethinking conventional notions of fidelity. She even goes so far as to examine why the convention exists in the first place. But ultimately her movie becomes lethargic, predictable, and bland despite the Westfeldts’ strong chemistry with co-star Adam Scott.

It looks like the Knocked Up spin-off This Is Forty will get getting another cast member from the original. Megan Fox posted a picture of her on the set in a swimming pool with co-stars Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) and Jason Segel. As you’ll recall, Segel played one of the friends of Seth Rogen’s character in Knocked Up. He’ll be joining stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann who are reprising their roles as married couple Pete and Debbie in the Judd Apatow comedy, which Rudd recently said is a “companion piece” to Knocked Up and not a sequel.
Segel will also be starring alongside returning cast member Charlene Yi as well as Albert Brooks, Megan Fox, Chris O’Dowd, Lena Dunham, Melissa McCarthy, Ryan Lee, and Wyatt Russell. This Is Forty is set to open in December 2012. [Update: Apparently there have been set photos of Segel on set with Mann. I never saw those, hence this story.]

Sacha Baron Cohen’s next film The Dictator is currently shooting in New York City. For those who don’t know, Cohen plays “a heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.” The film is inspired by the novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein. The set photos we’ve seen so far make it look as nutty as Cohen’s previous films. We have now learned of a new cameo in the film as well as how much a previously-announced actor will be in the film.
Hit the jump for more details. The film, directed by Larry Charles (Borat) also stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, J.B. Smoove, John C. Reilly, and Megan Fox. The Dictator opens May 11, 2012.

When we imagine Mitch Glazer sitting down to write Passion Play, we must invariably ask, “What the hell was Mitch Glazer thinking?” His first film isn’t a case of a great script that’s been manhandled into an awkward, ugly movie: this one’s problems begin at the script stage, with the dialogue and the characters and the story. And while I’m not prepared to completely dismiss Glazer as a writer/director, I am– after Passion Play–inclined to forget that I’ve ever seen his “first” movie. Join me after the jump, where we can begin forgetting any of this ever happened…
