As we look towards the year ahead, we’ve got plenty of sequels and popcorn fare ahead of us. One of the biggest properties to his this year is the third film in the Men in Black franchise. Barry Sonnenfeld returns as director and the story finds Will Smith’s Agent J travelling back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K. In addition to Bill Hader as Andy Warhol, we get Josh Brolin playing a younger version of Jones’ character for much of the film. Judging by the trailer, he’s got the accent spot on. We’ve previously seen a few new images from the film, but now Sony has released the high-resolution versions so we can see Will Smith all shiny and nice.

2012 has begun and that means fresh optimism! Fresh movies! Fresh images from those movies! After the jump you’ll find 21 new images from upcoming movies like The Hunger Games, Men in Black 3, Rock of Ages, The Five-Year Engagement, The Gangster Squad, and plenty more (for our purposes, plenty = 16).

Images are starting to surface from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, giving us a peek into some of the biggest films of 2012. A new image from The Amazing Spider-Man features Andrew Garfield yet again doing some Spidey business sans mask, and we’ve also got a new image from Men in Black 3 which shows Will Smith and Josh Brolin riding some very uncomfortable-looking monocycles. Additionally, a clear image has finally been released of Benjamin Walker as our ass-kicking 16th President in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Last but not least is a new look at Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer in director Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Based on the classic cult TV series, Dark Shadows centers on a vampire’s attempt to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. Depp looks considerably less strange in this image than others, but with Burton involved we can rest assured that there’ll probably be enough weirdness in the film to go around.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D July 3rd, Men in Black 3 will be released in 3D on May 25th, Dark Shadows hits theaters May 11th, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D June 22nd.

The first images from Men in Black 3 and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have gone online. As you can see in the Men in Black 3 image, Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) have returned to mess up your Chinese restaurant dining experience. As for Abraham Lincoln, you can see our 16th president (Benjamin Walker) trying to slay a vampire and missing. I’m not sure why Fox chose to send out this image since the shot clearly works better in motion.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Men in Black 3 opens May 25th and also stars Josh Brolin, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Johnny Knoxville, and Jemaine Clement. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens June 22nd and also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell. Both movies are in 3D.

The first look at Jemaine Clement as Men in Black 3 baddie “Yaz” has gone online. Yaz’ plot is to kill Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) in the past (the younger K played by Josh Brolin) and Agent J (Will Smith) has to go back to 1969 to save his partner and the world. We didn’t know much about the character beyond his name and his part in the story, but the set photo shows he’s an Easy Rider fan.
Hit the jump to see the set photo and what Clement had to say about his character. The film also stars Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, and Johnny Knoxville. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th.

Admittedly, I have fallen off of the beaten path with regards to checking out awards season contenders in the theaters this year. That said, I’m hoping to begin turning all of that around this afternoon as a matinee of director Jason Reitman’s Young Adult is currently on my Saturday itinerary. While I can’t claim to be a huge Diablo Cody fan (I tend to think her characters all sound the same…as in, exactly like Diablo Cody), I’m almost always happy with Reitman’s work. Moreover, Charlize Theron looks to be in rare comedic form (an arena she doesn’t always find herself in, but one she undoubtedly has the chops to pull off). All in all, here’s to hoping that my Young Adult screening is just the tip of my awards season iceberg. In the meantime…
…In this week’s “Top 5″ installment, you’ll find a slew of interviews for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, a number of new assets from director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, a recap of this crazy week in trailers, a rundown of the 69th Annual Golden Globes nods, and a light musing regarding Bridesmaids‘ awards season chances. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each of the above.

The first trailer for Men in Black 3 has gone online. The plot for the sequel involves J (Will Smith) going back in time to rescue K (Tommy Lee Jones). If I didn’t know that the script was most likely a mess, I would be slightly excited after seeing this trailer. Smith is back with his full-blown charisma and Josh Brolin is a pitch perfect young K. Maybe there’s a chance that somehow the script worked itself out? I’d certainly rather see a good MIB movie than a bad one.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film stars Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Johnny Knoxville, and Jemaine Clement. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th.

As The Dark Knight Rises revved up their viral campaign earlier this week , it overshadowed other movies in the midst of their own marketing. The Dark Knight Rises’ “Operation Early Bird” granted early access to the prologue for people close to specified IMAX theaters and a new trailer is expected to drop on Monday. However, there are other properties that are vying for your attention and your dollars, such as Men in Black 3, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Darkest Hour and The Hunger Games. Hit the jump for an update on each of these unique campaigns.

Today we got our hands on pictures of theater standees for a trio of upcoming movies that we thought might be of interest to you. The first features your favorite fiery Marvel superhero announcing Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The second features Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum double-gunning it on behalf of 21 Jump Street. The last is the standee version of the new Men in Black 3 posters that recreate the faces of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones with a couple dozen MIB logos.

I’m writing to you this week a better person. “Why?” you ask? Well, I’d like to think it’s a result of my ongoing pursuit to better myself. Really, though, It’s because I watched The Muppets movie last weekend. I can’t remember leaving the movie theater that genuinely happy with the state of the film industry and the world as a whole. Any place that understands the societal importance of and allows for the continued expression of Jim Henson’s iconic creations is a place I’m happy to be a part of. In short, anytime The Muppets are around, I’m all the better for it.
In other news, in this week’s “Top 5″ installment you’ll find some of the first looks at Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man, the first teaser posters for Men in Black 3, the first image of Daniel Day Lewis in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Brendan’s latest Cinemath feature, and each of our 2012 Oscar Previews. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

Last week, we brought you a couple photos of the Men in Black 3 teaser posters that were posted inside and outside movie theaters over Thanksgiving weekend. Sony has now released hi-res versions of those posters online. As far as eye-catching posters go, they’re not bad. I’m still not interested in the movie, but that’s mostly because of the the re-writes, which were due to the boneheaded decision to start with an incomplete script. We previously reported that the story revolved around Agent J (Will Smith) going back in time to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster, but after all the script changes I’m not sure that’s still accurate. Smith and Brolin are still in the movie (as are Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Rip Torn, and Johnny Knoxville), and I’m going to assume the time-travel element is still in place, but I’m not comfortable relying on that old logline.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25, 2012.

As a barrage of families are hitting the theaters for the holiday movie season, studios are drumming up awareness for their summer 2013 titles by unveiling promotional material at your local cineplex. Earlier today Matt spotted the first teaser poster for Sony’s Men in Black 3 and snapped a picture. The poster’s pretty effective (though slightly headache-inducing if you look too closely) as a bunch of “MIB3” logos make up Tommy Lee Jones’s face. Jones has a smaller role this time around though, as the film finds Will Smith traveling back in time to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster.
Production on the film was plagued with troubles, going so far as to take a hiatus during filming to work on the script. We don’t yet know how things turned out, but this teaser poster likely means a trailer is coming our way soon so we should have a better idea of what to expect. Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, and Jemaine Clement. Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th, 2012. [Update: We've updated the article with another teaser poster, this time featuring Will Smith]

Just because Men in Black III has experienced some bumps and bruises along the course of its production doesn’t mean that the MIB franchise isn’t still a Hollywood heavyweight. Released in 1997 and 2002 respectively, let us not forget that the first two installments in the franchise garnered more than a combined $1 billion at the worldwide box office against an approximate combined budget of $230 million. With this blockbuster status in mind, Sony Pictures Entertainment and IMAX Corporation apparently have similarly high hopes for the third installment as they have announced that Men in Black III will be digitally remastered and released in IMAX 3D when it hits theaters worldwide on May 25, 2012. According to Sony Pictures Releasing president Rory Bruer:
“Releasing a film in IMAX 3D signals an event release, and Men in Black III on Memorial Day weekend certainly qualifies in a big way. We couldn’t be more excited about how MIB III will look and sound in IMAX theatres.”
As a quick reminder, the film is directed by franchise mainstay Barry Sonnenfeld and stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Alice Eve. While plot details are not available in abundance, we do know that the film will feature a time-traveling element that sees Agent J (Smith) go back in time to save a young Agent K (Brolin) while averting a world-ending disaster.

The Indigo Ballroom opened its’ Comic-Con 2011 series with a profile on makeup maestro Rick Baker. The panel celebrated his previous achievements – which include a whopping seven Academy Awards – and highlighted his alien effects for the upcoming 3D three-quel Men in Black 3, which re-teams Baker with franchise mainstays Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and director Barry Sonnenfeld. The time travel flavored scifi comedy also features new roles for Josh Brolin and Flight of the Conchord’s Jemaine Clement.
The discussion featured many anecdotes from the whole of Baker’s career and life and featured the premiere of the first footage from MIB3. Hit the jump for a description of the new aliens and select quotes from the panel.

Just a little while ago, I posted the first official posters for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Total Recall, Underworld 4, and The Amazing Spider-Man as Sony has them on display at the Hard Rock Hotel here at Comic-Con. A few minutes after posting the article, I made my way inside the Convention to pick up my press credential and found the first official banner/poster for Will Smith’s Men in Black 3. While it only features the logo and release date, it’s the first time Sony has released any promotional image for the movie. Hit the jump to check it out.
