The Shield co-stars Michael Chiklis and Forest Whitaker are set to reunite for the crime thriller Pawn. The indie centers on a hostage situation gone wrong, as an ex-con “becomes entangled in a manipulative chess game between the Feds, local police and the mob.” In addition to Chiklis and Whitaker, Deadline reports that Ray Liotta and Common are also set to star with David A. Armstrong making his feature directorial debut. Chiklis will be producing the pic alongside Brad Luff, Jeff Most, and Michael Becker. The script was written by Jay Anthony White and production is set to begin on December 1st.
Chiklis recently wrapped his role as the villain in the revenge thriller Parker opposite Jason Statham, while Whitaker just starred in The Last Stand with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Common can currently be seen on AMC’s western drama series Hell on Wheels.

We have three quick casting stories to report. First up, Michael Chiklis has left behind playing good guy superheroes on the now-canceled No Ordinary Family and will play the villain in Taylor Hackford’s revenge-thriller Parker starring Jason Statham. Statham plays the eponymous character, a thief with a strict moral code. The story is based on Donald Westlake’s series of crime novels and Parker is intended to be the start of a new action franchise. Deadline reports that Jennifer Lopez is still in talks to play the female lead, but I’m just excited to see Chiklis get back into badass Vic Mackey mode (although I wouldn’t classify as Mackey as a straight “villain” as much as a deeply flawed character).
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Chiklis’ The Shield co-star Walton Goggins as well as more casting for the adaptation of What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

The new ABC television series No Ordinary Family follows the Powell family and their journey from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz), and two teenage children, Daphne (Kay Panabaker) and JJ (Jimmy Bennett). In an attempt to encourage family bonding time, Jim decides the family will join Stephanie on her business trip to South America, but when their plane crashes into the Amazon River, they soon realize that their lives have been forever changed, as each member of the family starts to show signs of new, unique and distinct super-powers. In trying to understand their abilities, they rebuild their family life and learn about what defines them as individuals.
In a recent interview to promote the series premiere, actress Kay Panabaker talked about her character’s power of telepathy and its pitfalls as a 16-year-old, how she would love to be able to read minds herself and that she would really like to be able to do physical stunts, at some point during the season. The new ABC series No Ordinary Family, premiering on September 28th, tells the story of the Powells (played by Michael Chiklis, Julie Benz, Kay Panabaker and Jimmy Bennett), a family who goes on a bonding trip to South America, in an attempt to reconnect with each other. When their plane crashes into the Amazon River, they soon realize that their lives have been forever changed, as each member of the family starts to show signs of new, unique and distinct super-powers and they are left to navigate whether their newfound abilities will finally bring them together or push them further apart.
Following the show’s Sunday afternoon panel at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, co-creator/executive producer Greg Berlanti took a few minutes to talk about all of his current superhero projects – No Ordinary Family, Green Lantern and The Flash, for which he is currently working on developing the story. Season orders abound today, as ABC’s superhero drama No Ordinary Family starring Michael Chiklis, Fox’s Will Arnett sitcom Running Wilde (formerly titled Wilde Kingdom), and NBC’s relationship comedy Perfect Couples co-starring Olivia Munn join the four pilots that Fox picked up earlier today (RideAlong, Midland, Traffic Light, and Keep Hope Alive) that will grace the fall schedule. Family is ABC’s first official order of pilot season, while Fox now has five series slated with Wilde. NBC is tops, as Couples represents the network’s seventh early pickup, joining Law & Order: LA, Undercovers, The Event, Outsourced, Love Bites, and Chase. [The Live Feed]

The first teaser trailer for the stoner comedy High School has been released. With it being 4/20, I think they picked the right day. Premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the movie is about two former best friends that decide to get everyone in their High School stoned so no one can pass the mandatory drug test. Starring Michael Chiklis, Adrien Brody, Colin Hanks, Matt Bush and Sean Marquette, the film got decent reviews at the Festival and I’ve heard it’ll be getting released this fall on 1500 screens. Until then…check out the teaser after the jump. The voice you’ll hear is Adrien Brody as Psycho Ed.

The Shield is one of my all-time favorite shows and it should be yours too unless you hate things that are amazing. Now you can own the entire series box set for $64 over at DeepDiscount.com. That’s $64 for 29 discs holding 88 episodes plus a boatload of commentaries and special features. I already own all the seasons separately but if you’ve been waiting for a great deal to buy them all together in one fantastic box set, this is your chance.

Around this time every year, all the networks start to cast their pilots. While you may think every show that gets developed ends up on the air, you’d be mistaken. The odds of creating a show that actually makes it is very small, and to become a hit show, it’s like winning the lottery. To try and raise the odds of a successful crop of new shows, the networks develop many pilots. In fact, the number is often two or three times what they actually need. That way they can pick the best of the bunch, and the rest are usually never seen or heard from again. Again, even if you hear about a pilot, it doesn’t mean you’ll ever see it.
Saying that, a number of actors (Daniel Dae Kim Cast, Michael Chiklis, Jason Ritter, Zach Gilford, Aisha Hinds, Todd Williams) have recently been cast in pilots that are about to shoot. Hit the jump for details on what shows they landed on:

Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody plays a drug dealer in the stoner comedy High School and we have pictures to prove it. The film, written and directed by John Stalberg, tells the story of a high school valedictorian who accidentally gets stoned the day of a drug test that threatens his title. The boy’s solution? Get the rest of the school stoned too! The film stars Brody as drug dealer “Psycho Ed”, Colin Hanks as the valedictorian, and Michael Chiklis as the principal, so it’s not as Direct-to-DVD as its premise might suggest. See Brody in all his reefer regalia after the jump.

In the wake of Disney’s purchase of Marvel this morning, Fox is hurrying to reboot a Marvel property is still owns: “Fantastic Four”. The franchise is one of four Fox owns in perpetuity, irrespective of Disney’s $4 billion deal, including “X-Men,” “Daredevil,” and “Silver Surfer.” Thought details are scant on the new project, a few names have been dropped. Those, and why this could be a good thing after the jump.

If The Shield made any mistakes in its seven season run, it’s that as it headed into the final stretch (really Seasons five, six and seven, which fits as five and six were really one season split apart), is that it put Vic Mackie (Michael Chiklis) and Shane Vandrell (Walton Goggins) front and center, and the supporting cast from the Barn – the show’s station for the Los Angeles cops who made up most of the cast – were put into the margins. Sure “Dutch” Wagenbach (Jay Karnes) gets to break a case or two, and Claudette Wimms (CCH Pounder) gets some moments, but they are the lucky ones compared to Michael Jace’s officer Julien, or Catherine Dent’s Danni Sofer. There wasn’t much to do, and they were sacrificed for momentum. Who did benefit? David Rees Snell, as his Detective Ronnie Gardocki went from a feature player who maybe got a line or two, to one of the show’s aces in the hole.
