A couple of film’s got all actored up today. Here are the details on who climbed aboard what. First, fresh off playing in shaky-cam superhero hit Chronicle, Alex Russell has signed on for director Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie remake. Also getting in on the action is stage actor, Ansel Elgort, making his big-screen debut. The pair joins Chloe Moretz, who was previously cast as the lead. Based on the 1974 Stephen King novel (the book that kicked off the horror maestro’s prolific career), it will tell the tale of tormented high-schooler Carrie White, who, after being pushed too far by her classmates and mother, unleashes telekinetic hell. It was previously adapted in 1976 by director Brian De Palma, a film that still stands among the finest adaptations of the author’s work. Per Variety, Elgort has been cast as a friend who takes Carrie to the prom, while Russell will play a bully who ridicules (and, one would imagine, is brutally killed by) the troubled protagonist.

A lot of time when you’ve waited anxiously for something for a long period of time, when that special something finally arrives in your greedy little paws, it turns out to be a bit of a disappointment. I was worried that my rose-colored glasses might have the better of me after the decade and a half wait for The State to come out on DVD.  About five minutes into viewing, I realized the worry was for naught – this collection can still make me laugh all these years later.  The nice thing – it will make you laugh too. My review is after the jump:
