If you’re a fan of the Resident Evil franchise, you’re probably wondering how Michelle Rodriguez is back in the fifth installment after what happened to her in the first film. It’s called cloning. Also, it’s Resident Evil. What I’m trying to say is, don’t spend too much time thinking about it. The fact is, while the newest installment of Resident Evil is called Retribution, it really should have been called All-Stars because director Paul W.S. Anderson has brought back a lot of the previous cast in what’s probably the second to last film. If you’re a fan of the franchise, it should be a lot of fun to see your favorite characters one more time.
Last month I got to visit the set while the production was filming in Toronto and participated in a group interview with Rodriguez. She talked about returning to the franchise, how she’s playing two versions of the same character, working with the weapons and the action scenes, and a lot more. Hit the jump to either read or listen to what she had to say.

The first teaser trailer for the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise has gone online. Resident Evil: Retribution marks the fifth entry in the popular post-apocalyptic series. This time, Alice (Milla Jovovich) continues her search across the globe for those responsible for the deadly outbreak. Things take a twist, however, when she runs into a few familiar faces. RE5 was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and it stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe, and Li Bingbing.

At the TNT portion of the TCA Winter Press Tour, actress Jordana Brewster was in attendance to talk about her role in the summer series Dallas. While we will run that portion of the interview closer to the series premiere, we did want to post what she had to say about the Fast & Furious franchise and why she thinks it’s so enduring with fans, her hopes that she will be able to schedule it with her new TV show, how motherhood will affect her character, and that she is looking forward to working with Michelle Rodriguez again in Fast Six. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

I don’t know when director Steven Soderbergh plans to stop casting Magic Mike, but the answer doesn’t appear to be “anytime soon.” THR adds Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad) to the cast; more bizarrely, Deadline says professional wrestler Kevin Nash (aka “Big Sexy”) will appear in the movie based on a 19-year-old Channing Tatum’s experiences as a male stripper. In the fictional version, Tatum plays a veteran dancer who teaches the new guy (Alex Pettyfer) everything he knows, including “the protocol of stage performance, the principles of money management, and rules for dating female fans.” Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Cody Horn, Joe Mangianello, Riley Keough, Adam Rodriguez, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Olivia Munn, and Gabriel Iglesias also star.

We have some quick casting news for you this morning. First up, Brendan Fraser will star in the heist comedy Whole Lotta Sole for director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda). Variety reports that the story centers on a young man who robs a fish shop in order to pay off a gambling debt, but the heist goes sideways when it turns into a hostage situation. Fraser will play the shopkeeper who’s on the run from his gangster father-in-law. Fraser had a rough 2010 with Extraordinary Measures and Furry Vengeance so hopefully Whole Lotta Sole will work out for him. He’s also attached to star in the Neil LaBute drama Seconds of Pleasure with Kristen Scott Thomas.

In the sci-fi action thriller Battle: Los Angeles, actress Michelle Rodriguez plays Air Force Tech Sergeant Elena Santos, one of the first on the scene to track the aliens that are trying to obliterate the world’s human population. Even though she has to earn the respect of the Marine platoon that she comes across on the battlefield, she quickly becomes a key ally for Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) because she has studied the aliens to figure out what makes them tick and discover how to destroy them.
At the film’s press day, Michelle Rodriguez talked about getting to be the brains of the group, having her co-stars see her as one of the guys, doing almost all of her own stunts, and how she prefers to run toward what she’s scared of and not away from it. She also talked about her desire to branch out into comedy and how she’s writing her own script that she says has a Pulp Fiction vibe. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

With director Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles opening this weekend, I got to speak with most of the cast at the Los Angeles press junket. As most of you know, the film tells the story of an alien invasion as seen through the eyes of a Marine platoon headed up by Aaron Eckhart. The film also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Michael Pena and Ramon Rodriguez. You can watch some clips and read the full synopsis here.
Anyway, every day this week I’ve been posting a different interview and today I’ve got Michelle Rodriguez. During the interview we talked about the boot camp, making the film, how did the film compare to what she thought it would be when she signed on, does she ever want to direct, and karaoke. Sony has provided us with 2 clips and 3 TV spots from their upcoming film Battle: Los Angeles. The Jonathan Liebesman-directed flick stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Pena. The stirring first trailer let audiences know that this isn’t your typical action movie. The film tells the story of an alien invasion as seen through the eyes of a Marine platoon headed up by Aaron Eckhart. Each subsequent piece of promotional material released did not disappoint, and it’s safe to say that the film looks to be quite a ride. Battle: Los Angeles hits theaters on March 11th. Sony has released a new poster for Battle: Los Angeles. I really hope this turns out to be a good flick and not just Independence Day with a shakier camera.

When I got to visit the set of director Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles when the production was filming in Shreveport, Louisiana in October of 2009, I was able to interview Aaron Eckhart, Michael Peña, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Ramon Rodriguez. While some of the group had been filming all day (the interview was one of the last things they did), the group was still really excited to talk to us about how the shoot had been going and why they were excited to be a part of the movie. They also talked about how they got ready for the movie, the challenges of shooting in extreme heat with all the military equipment they had to wear, who they play, the boot camp that some of them had to go through, and a lot more. You can either read or listen to the interview after the jump. Also, if you missed my video blog about going to the set, you can watch it here.

In October of 2009, I was invited to visit the set of Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles while the production was filming in Shreveport, Louisiana. At the time, I didn’t know much beyond the basics (aliens attack and the Marine’s have to kick ass), but with sci-fi being my favorite genre, I knew that I wanted to see the production up close.
While my set visit illuminated what the film was going to be about and how Liebesman planned to shoot most of the film with handheld cameras, by now most of you already know the basics as the awesome Battle: Los Angeles trailers have been very popular with our readers. However, for the few that haven’t seen them, Battle: L.A. gets released March 11, and it stars Aaron Eckhart, Bridget Moynahan, Michael Pena, Ne-Yo, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Ramon Rodriguez and many others.
Even though there are a number of “aliens attacking” movies on the horizon, I really believe Battle: Los Angeles is going to be very cool and most of it stems from being on set and seeing firsthand what the production was trying to accomplish. More after the jump:

In The Art of War, Sun Tzu says, “If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.” If the intel in Battle: Los Angeles’s new viral marketing is any good, we humans might just stand a fighting chance.
The movie pits Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, and Michael Pena against an alien invasion. You can see exactly what they’re up against (well, sort of) by taking a look at the teaser trailer and the more recently released theatrical trailer. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Battle: Los Angeles invades theaters on March 11th. Hit the jump for the classified files.

The film Grindhouse included a number of fake trailers for (mostly) awesome looking movies. At that time, Robert Rodriguez’s trailer for the then imaginary film “Machete” offered a lot of awesome images of asskickery, but what made it great was that it had Danny Trejo in a leading role. Trejo has been kicking around Hollywood for over twenty five years, starting as an extra and moving up to “that guy” status after turns in films like Desperado and Heat. 2010’s Machete then is Trejo’s first starring role as an ex-federale turned day-laborer hired by Michael Booth (Jeff Fahey) to kill Senator John McLaughlin (Robert De Niro). It turns out the shooting is a double cross, and Machete must then get revenge.
Joined by an all star and random cast of actors that range from Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, the aforementioned De Niro and Fahey, Cheech Martin, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson and Tom Savini, it’s a weird collision of actors all making a film that was born of a fake trailer. The results are mixed, but it’s hard to hate a film like this. My review of Machete on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

The theatrical trailer for Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles is now available online. Starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, and Michael Pena, the film is of the “alien invasion” variety and follows a Marine staff sergeant (Eckhart) as he and his team take on the unwelcome guests. A few months ago, the film premiered a great teaser trailer. While the theatrical trailer doesn’t quite live up to that stellar cut, it’s still an effective and suspenseful 2:30 minutes that manages to raise my modestly high expectations for the film even higher.

After flying under the radar, the upcoming sci-fi action film Battle: Los Angeles premiered a strong teaser trailer last night that should get people talking. It’s a bold trailer without dialogue, haunting music, and lots of explosions. It was even willing to risk not giving the title at the end. There’s now an international trailer online and it takes a more standard approach: voice-over guy, aliens attack, lots of explosions. Sometimes that can work too, although I definitely premiere the US version.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Battle: Los Angeles stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Ramon Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Ne-Yo, and Michael Peña. It opens March 11, 2011.
