Fans of the Resident Evil film franchise can now rest easy knowing that the story will continue in at least one more feature. The folks over at STYD have learned that Resident Evil 6 has been given a September 12, 2014 release date, confirming that the sequel will indeed be moving forward. This is a bit of a curious development, as last we heard, director Paul W.S. Anderson was gearing up to film the epic Pompeii this year with Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) set as the lead. If the 2014 date for Resident Evil is indeed true, there’s no possible way that Anderson is filming both movies this year; either the production start-date for Pompeii has been pushed or someone else is directing Resident Evil 6 or Pompeii.
Though last year’s Resident Evil: Retribution broke the series’ impressive streak of each film grossing more than its predecessor, its final total of $221 million worldwide is nonetheless striking. I’ve only ever seen the first Resident Evil so I have no idea where the series is at plot-wise, but Anderson told us last September that he had a story in mind for RE6 that involved a lot of death and would possibly bring the franchise to a close. What about you, Resident Evil fans? What do you hope to see in the next sequel?

As we await the 85th Academy Award nominations announcement on Thursday morning, we now have a look at the opposite end of the 2012 film spectrum. The 33rd Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the very worst of what 2012′s movie slate had to offer. Leading the pack is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 with 10 nominations, as the film landed a nomination in every single category. The Twilight closer will go head-to-head with Battleship, A Thousand Words, That’s My Boy, and The Oogieloves in Big Balloon Adventure for the Worst Picture title.
It’s easy to beat up on the Twilight franchise, and even though I wouldn’t go so far as to call Breaking Dawn – Part 2 a good movie, it’s in no way the worst movie of the year. The sheer amount of beheadings alone in director Bill Condon’s climactic fight sequence is enough to make the movie worth watching. Anyway, hit the jump to check out the full list of Razzie Awards nominations.

In the spirit of TIFF 2012 winding down this weekend, I’m interested in hearing what some of our readers most anticipated pics coming out of the festival are. For me, I was already psyched for films such as Looper, Cloud Atlas, and The Master, but early buzz has also peaked my interest in The Place Beyond the Pines, End of Watch, Spring Breakers, Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp, Dredd 3D, and At Any Price among others. What about you? Where there films that showed up on your radar while following the festival? What about a film you were looking forward to that you were disappointed didn’t fare quite as well as you had hoped (for me, this was Passion)? New images have arrived from the new James Bond film Skyfall and Paul W.S. Anderson‘s Resident Evil: Retribution. I’m still impressed by the latest Skyfall trailers, and I’m hoping that the face-off between Bond (Daniel Craig) and Javier Bardem‘s villain will be one of the franchise’s best duels. As for Resident Evil: Retribution, it’s Milla Jovovich wearing skintight leather and wielding two guns, which seems to be more than enough for the franchise’s fans.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Skyfall opens November 9th, and also stars Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. Resident Evil: Retribution opens September 14th, and also stars Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe, Johann Urb, Kevin Durand, Bingbing Li, and Michelle Rodriguez.

While at Comic-Con for a presentation in Hall H, actress Milla Jovovich spoke with the press about the fifth installment in the popular Resident Evil franchise. In Resident Evil: Retribution, which resurrects Michelle Rodriguez’s character from the first film, Alice (Jovovich) fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead. During the interview, Jovovich talked about where things pick up with this film, the bigger nature of the story, the biggest challenge with this movie, and the possibility of a sixth and final film. She also talked about the Ice Cats book she wrote when she was seven years old, that strongly resembled ThunderCats, and her preference for action figures over Barbie dolls. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Anderson’s fifth film in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Retribution, debuted earlier last month, and now eight new images have surfaced online. The story finds Milla Jovovich’s Alice waking up in the heart of the Umbrella Corporation’s most clandestine operations facility. You might have noticed that just a few hours ago, the Resident Evil: Retribution trailer made its big debut, but for some lucky fans in New York City, the experience entailed much more than an Internet viewing. ScreenCrush.com’s Jordan Hoffman moderated an event that featured a showing of the new trailer on the big screen as well as a clip from the film and a Q&A session with none other than Alice herself, Milla Jovovich.
When you’ve got a franchise rocking five installments, it’s undoubtedly a monumental success. While directors Paul W.S. Anderson, Alexander Witt and Russell Mulcahy have all effectively maintained the world created by Anderson in the first film back in 2002, inspired by the Capcom video games, now it’s time to push the envelope more so than ever. Alice is turning her battle against the Umbrella Corporation into an international effort, traveling from Tokyo to New York to Washington D.C. and Moscow during which she’ll uncover information that sheds new light on her expansive endeavor. Hit the jump to read all about the exclusive footage and Jovovich’s experience working on the film.

We posted a teaser trailer for the fifth installment of the Resident Evil franchise back in January, but now the first full trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution has landed. I’ve only ever seen the first film in the series, so I’m all kinds of confused by this trailer for the fifth installment. That said, action looks to be front and center here and I doubt Resident Evil fans will be disappointed by this trailer. Moreover, this new film brings back at least a few cast members that perished earlier in the series so Retribution may act as sort of a throwback for diehard fans. If you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including interviews with director Paul W.S. Anderson and the cast, click here.

Memorial Day is a holiday meant to honor the American soldiers who lost their lives in military service and to remind us all of their sacrifice. Some Hollywood A-listers thought that the best way to show their support would be to literally turn their backs on them. In this misguided attempt at drumming up awareness and support for veterans returning home and looking for jobs, celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Milla Jovovich and Bradley Cooper put their backs to the camera while talking to our nation’s service men and women. I’m not blaming the celebrities for going along with this ridiculous gimmick, but rather the person who thought “I’ve got your six,” is an acceptable tagline while overlooking the metaphor of “turning your back on someone.” The message is great, one that we should all remember, this weekend and every weekend; it’s just the delivery that’s unintentionally silly and borders on insulting. Hit the jump to check it out.
