Rumor: Shortlist of Actors to Play Bruce Willis’ Son and Possibly Inherit DIE HARD Franchise Includes Aaron Paul and Ben Foster

The casting of John McClane was never in question, even if the fifth installment in the Die Hard franchise did struggle with landing a director (they settled on John Moore). But McClane can’t keep dodging bullets forever; sooner or later his son will have to inherit the famous one-liner. The shortlist for actors to fill Bruce Willis’s shoes is rumored to be as follows: Ben Foster (The Mechanic), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes) and Paul Walker (Fast Five). All of the above actors are expected to test with Willis, except for Walker, who Fox has a strong interest in. Plot details are thin at the moment, though we do know the film will be set in Russia and will involve some father/son crime fighting. To see why this will probably be the first Die Hard to make me cry, hit the jump.

Trailer for THE DIVIDE Starring Milo Ventimiglia and Michael Biehn

The trailer for Xavier Gens’ indie horror flick The Divide has gone online.  The plot centers on a handful of apartment residents who witness a nuclear attack outside their window and take shelter in the building’s basement.  However, they soon have to contend with human threats both external and internal.  Bill found the film effectively dark but a little too draining and limited by its budget.  Outside of Bill’s review, I heard somewhat negative reactions to the film, but the trailer makes it look pretty good (aside from the single-tear shot at the beginning).  The movie also looks like it will be a nice reminder that Michael Biehn should not be kept in confined spaces.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Biehn, Rosanna Arquette, Courtney B. Vance, and Lauren German.  The Divide opens January 13, 2012.

Comic-Con 2011: THE DIVIDE Review

What hasn’t been explored in the post-apocalyptic genre before? Ponder that before you jump into another film in that genre and you will realize how hard writers and directors have to work to just make something memorable. Luckily for The Divide, making a memorable experience is something they have achieved. The question is, will you want to remember your experience? That’s exactly what I thought over after leaving the basement of a bar where the screening too place last Friday in San Diego. Hit the jump for my full review.

Milo Ventimiglia, Sara Paxton, and Sarah Shahi to Star in 3D Thriller STATIC

Now that Heroes is dead and buried, the cast has plenty of free time to move on to other projects, potentially even projects that have compelling storylines and logical character motivations.  The Wrap reports that Milo Ventimiglia is moving on to the 3D thriller Static and will join Sara Paxton (Last House on the Left) and Sarah Shahi (The L Word).  The story centers on “a young couple (Ventimiglia and Shahi) who are on the verge of divorce after the loss of their child, but their world changes when a young visitor arrives, bringing supernatural implications to the household.”  So it’s like Rabbit Hole but in 3D with supernatural implications! Score!

Static will mark the feature directing debut of commercial director Todd Levin.  Despite being in 3D, the film’s budget is set at less than $1 million and will control costs by using Sony’s PMW-F3 cameras, which are the company’s answer to the popular RED 3D camera.

Since NBC’s superpowered drama Heroes was given the axe, series star Milo Ventimiglia may have found a new project to keep the network in the comic book inspired arena. Deadline reports Ventimiglia will both star in and executive produce a potential series adaptation of Rest, a comic book co-created by the actor along with Russ Cundiff and Mark Powers. Writer Philip Levens (Smallville) will adapt the comic which follows John Barrett, a guy in his late 20′s stuck in a dead-end job with no future. But when his best friend from college mysteriously resurfaces with news of a new wonder drug that replaces sleep, John falls into a conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history.  More after the jump:

ARMORED Blu-ray Review

by Germain Lussier    Posted: April 9th, 2010 at 11:20 am

In theory, Armored should be an awesome movie. The idea of a bunch of security guards robbing their own armored truck sounds like a bad ass heist film. Just the premise gets the mind racing. What’s the plan? How do they plan on getting away with it? Unfortunately, the reality of Armored doesn’t touch on either of those things. Instead we’re left with an original idea told without original thought. And the Blu-ray is just more of the same. Read more after the jump.

Gary Oldman, Malin Akerman, and Milo Ventimiglia Run a CRIMINAL EMPIRE FOR DUMMYS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 10th, 2010 at 11:18 pm

Gary Oldman, Malin Akerman, and Milo Ventimiglia have signed onto star in the indie gangster flick Criminal Empire for Dummys.  According to Variety,

Story centers on a charismatic young man — portrayed by Ventimiglia — who relates the do’s and don’ts of running a criminal empire through a flashback to his own rise from a tragic childhood and life in the ghetto to eventual position as a multinational drug and criminal kingpin.

I’m wondering if the misspelling of “Dummies” is intentional (like Pursuit of Happyness) or if it’s a typo on Variety’s part.  That little question aside, the cast will also include Michael Clarke Duncan and Harvey Keitel.  Empire will be the feature directorial debut from screenwriter Cliff Dorfman (Entourage and the upcoming boxing flick Warrior) who will direct from his own script.  Hopefully, it will be less predictable and more watchable than Entourage.

5 Movie Clips from ARMORED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 2nd, 2009 at 6:54 pm

armored_movie_image_laurence_fishburne_and_matt_dillon.jpgArmored may not a blockbuster extravaganza filled with Hollywood’s biggest stars, but from what I’ve seen, it looks like a tight little action-thriller and that’s good enough for me.  I am hoping it’s good because you don’t want this film to be a travesty and then face the fact that director Nimrod Antal is going to be making Predators.  Still, I have faith and hopefully these five new clips from the film will inspire some faith in you as well.

Hit the jump to check out the clips along with a brief synopsis.  Armored hits theaters on December 4th.

6 Clips from the Premiere of HEROES Volume 5: Redemption

Heroes NBC image - slice.jpg

With NBC’s “Heroes” set to return next week with its season premiere, we’ve been provided with 6 clips from the two hour episode. So if you’ve been waiting all summer for the return of the show, after the jump you can see some new footage. Since I’ve already written about my thoughts on the show, I’m just going to leave you with the clips. Also, I’m in Toronto at the Film Festival and have got a lot to write about…but I’ll say it again, getting Ray Park on the show was a smart move. In one of the clips you can see his powers.

HEROES Volume 5 Premiere Synopsis

Heroes NBC image - slice.jpg

While I have serious issues with NBC’s “Heroes”, I still watch every week. As I have said repeatedly on Collider, if you put people with super powers on TV, I’ll tune in. I know I have a problem.

Anyway, each season I always think this will be the year “Heroes” gets it right. They’ll finally write the show with some intelligence and come up with an interesting storyline. But then the show premieres, and I get mad that I still watch. So will this be the year “Heroes” turns it around? Probably not. But they have added Robert Knepper and Ray Park, so they’ve at least done something right. Anyhow, NBC has just released the synopsis for the two hour premiere airing September 21st, so if you want to know what the premiere is about, click the jump. When NBC releases clips I’ll post them.

20 New Images from Neveldine/Taylor’s GAMER

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: September 1st, 2009 at 8:22 pm

Gamer movie image - slice.jpg

Over the past few months, I have professed my love at the altar of Neveldine/Taylor many times. As the writer/directors behind “Crank” and “Crank: High Voltage”, I think they’re maniacs behind the camera and they make movies unlike anyone else. This is a good thing. So to say I’m excited to see their new movie “Gamer” is an understatement. Also, it’s the first action flick Gerard Butler has done since “300″ and I’ve been patiently waiting for him to make another…

Anyway, the reason I’m going on like this is I was just provided with 20 all new images from “Gamer” and they’re after the jump so check them out! Also, if you missed my video interviews with Terry Crews, Chris Bridges or Milo Ventimiglia, just click the links. And look for an in depth interview with Neveldine/Taylor tomorrow night! “Gamer” attacks theaters this weekend.
