A new extended featurette for the upcoming third season of the resurrected AMC drama series The Killing has been released online, offering up a bounty of footage and info about the crime show’s return.  Season three picks up a year and a half after the events of the season two finale, as Mireille Enos’ Linden is now working in an isolated job outside the police force and Joel Kinnaman’s Holder has a new partner.  Linden gets roped back in when bodies start piling up and Holder realizes that his serial killer case may be connected to one of Linden’s past cases.  New cast member Peter Sarsgaard—who plays a death row inmate—notes that the season has three different narratives that are connected, so it’ll be interesting to see if showrunner Veena Sud can successfully weave the storylines while maintaining momentum or if the show will get bogged down with melancholy and minimal development like season two.

Hit the jump to watch the full featurette.  The two-hour season three premiere of The Killing airs on AMC on June 2nd.

Paramount has released a new trailer for director Marc Forster’s (Quantum of Solace) zombie apocalypse film World War Z.  The film stars Brad Pitt as a United Nations employee who traverses the globe in a race to stop a growing Zombie pandemic that threatens to put an end to humanity.  This trailer does a better job at humanizing Pitt’s character as a family man as well as hinting at the plot arc he’ll have to follow.  While the CG still looks a bit suspect, the zombie hordes of World War Z have proven to be not only resilient but rather resourceful in getting around.

Director David Ayer’s (End of Watch) upcoming action thriller Ten just nabbed a release date, but those itching to get a look at the film anytime soon will be sorely disappointed.  Open Road Films announced today that Ten will be released on January 24, 2014, which for you mathematicians out there is about 13 months away.  The film is loosely based on Agatha Christie’s classic mystery Ten Little Indians, as it centers on a DEA task force who heists a drug cartel safe house, only to start getting picked off one-by-one by an unknown assassin.  The impressive ensemble cast is lead by Arnold Schwarzenegger, with Sam Worthington, Joe Manganiello, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Josh Holloway, Max Martini (Revenge), Olivia Williams (Anna Karenina), and Mireille Enos (The Killing) rounding things out.

Currently no other film is slated for that same weekend in January 2014, but Open Road has also released a slightly new image from the film.  It’s incredibly similar to the first image of Schwarzenegger that was previously released, but this photo shows the actor striking a different (though no less intimidating) pose.  Hit the jump to read the press release and to take a look at the new image.

AMC’s The Killing has returned from purgatory and will air its third season on the network.  The crime drama was cancelled after two seasons and then had its hopes resurrected by a joint effort from AMC and Netflix, thanks to relentless pursuit from producer Fox TV Studios. Though none of the execs from the above-mentioned organizations would confirm the news, it looks like showrunner Veena Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin are back in the writers’ room as of this week, in order to churn out another season. Whether the show will regain its first season highs or continue its second season lows remains to be seen. Stars Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are contractually obligated to return. First Trailer for WORLD WAR Z Starring Brad Pitt

The first trailer for director Marc Forster’s zombie apocalypse film World War Z has been released.  Things go to Hell rather quickly for the Lane family when the zombie apocalypse wreaks havoc on an otherwise mundane rush hour.  I get that Forster is accentuating the “world” aspect of the film and certainly establishes the pandemic as a global event, but the cut of the trailer paints the horde of the undead as more of an overwhelming flood observed from a bird’s eye view.  I’m hoping to see a little more of the immediate danger, but this glimpse certainly gets the heart pumping.  (I think we’ve all had enough of the Zimmer horns though…)

Thanks to social networking, we now have the first image of Arnold Schwarzenegger in director David Ayer’s new film, Ten.  Schwarzenegger tweeted the image earlier today, one that shows off a new look for the former Governor as he’s sporting a new haircut and a variety of new tattoos.  He’s also armed to the teeth and ready for battle in a police-issue bullet-proof vest, complete with knives, ammo and at least three guns.  Back when it was titled BreacherAyer said he wanted to “reinvent Arnold” during an interview with Steve.  You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not he succeeded.  Hit the jump to check out the first image and for more on Schwarzenegger’s character.

AMC Cancels THE KILLING After Two Seasons

After finally revealing “who killed Rosie Larsen” in the second season finale this past May, AMC has cancelled to the hourlong drama series The Killing per TV Line.  The show got off to a great, moody start in season one by surrounding a procedural case with genuinely interesting and flawed characters, but too many red herrings, Twin Peaks ripoffs, and extremely iffy plotting tainted the rest of the show.  Moreover, many fans were left screaming at their televisions when the central question raised in all the marketing preceding the pilot—“Who killed Rosie Larsen?”—was left unanswered in the season one finale.

I watched all 26 episodes of the series, and what kept my interest were the truly terrific performances from the show’s two leads: Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman.  The actors have rightly nabbed some high profile roles since the show premiered, with Enos starring alongside Brad Pitt in World War Z and Kinnaman landing the lead in the RoboCop remake.  Vulture reports that Fox Television, the studio that produces The Killing, is apparently now shopping the show around to other networks.  Good luck with that…

Damon Lindelof to Rewrite WORLD WAR Z Ahead of Massive Reshoots

Writers are brought on to perform rewrites on projects all the time, but it’s not every day that a scribe is hired to rewrite a film’s script after the film has already been shot.  Such is the case with director Marc Forster’s (Quantum of Solace) zombie apocalypse pic World War Z.  The film is based on Max Brooks’ novel of the same name and stars Brad Pitt as a United Nations employee “who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”  Production took place last year in various European locales, with Paramount even considering a potential trilogy based off of the dailies they were seeing.

Back in March, it was announced that the film was vacating its December 2012 release date for the summer date of June 21st, 2013.  The move didn’t turn many heads, as most assumed that Paramount thought the zombie pic would do better business in the heart of the summer rather than in the midst of the crowded holiday season of 2012.  Heads did turn, however, when rumblings began that the film was set to undergo some massive 6-7 week reshoots later this year.  Hit the jump for more.
