THR is reporting that director Phillip Noyce has come on board to direct Samuel L. Jackson in the adaptation of Roger Smith’s novel, “Mixed Blood”. Set in South Africa (as was Noyce’s 2006 film, “Catch a Fire”), the story centers on an American fugitive trying to protect his family who’s drawn into a world of murderers, kidnappers and corrupt cops. His first mistake: living in South Africa.
Jackson would play a good detective who goes by the moniker of Disaster Zondi. This sounds like a real, dramatic role so I don’t know if Jackson can pull it off. Maybe Zondi can liquify a kitten at some point. Kelly Masterson, who penned “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” is writing the adaptation so as long as you ignore Samuel L. Jackson, you have some talented folks putting together an interesting film.
Noyce is currently working on “Salt” starring Angelina Jolie. That film is set to hit theatres in 2010.
