If you’re not familiar with the work of IAm8Bit, you’re missing out on some of the coolest artwork currently available in the States, and—as 8Bit fans can tell you—one of the group’s finest collaborators is artist Jim Rugg.  Rugg’s made a name for himself creating tongue-in-cheek works of art (often with nothing more than a ballpoint pen), and his latest show, titled Notebook Nerd, is making its debut this weekend at the IAm8Bit gallery in Los Angeles.  Gonna be in the neighborhood and interested to see some of the stuff that’s gonna be on display?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

The Alamo Drafthouse’s Summer of ‘82 series is the hottest ticket in Austin, Texas this summer, and not only because the Drafthouse’s consistently-brilliant programmers are bringing back some of the most beloved genre classics from the “Me Decade”:   on top of several months’ worth of kick-ass classics like The Thing, Poltergeist, and The Road Warrior, the Drafthouse is also using this series to debut some brand-spanking new artwork from Mondo (the movie-poster producing arm of the Alamo Drafthouse, as if you needed to be told).  This Friday, the Summer of 1982 series is delivering Rocky 3 upon the city, and Collider.com is co-hosting the event.  Wanna see the Mondo print that’s set to debut during the show?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

Mondo Unveils Final Poster for THE AVENGERS

Over the past couple of weeks, Mondo (the collectible boutique arm of the Alamo Drafthouse) has been unveiling posters from their Avengers series.  Things kicked off with two great posters for Black Widow and Hawkeye, followed by a batch of individual posters for Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor.  Today, on the eve of the release of Joss Whedon’s all-star superhero pic, Mondo has unveiled the final poster in all its glory.  Tyler Stout created the design, and it’s pretty damn nifty.  All of the cast members are featured prominently inside the Avengers logo, assembled and ready to go.  Word on the film is extremely positive (you can read Matt’s rave review here), and this seems like the perfect way to cap off years of anticipation.

Hit the jump to check out the poster, including a variant design.  The poster will go on sale at a random time on Friday, May 4th.  As always, follow @MondoNews for the on sale announcement.

Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time offers a bright, weird, subversively funny experience to its viewers, so it should come as no surprise that Justin Ishmael (creative director at Mondo and a known fan of the weird, colorful, and subversive things in life) would be amongst the show’s ever-expanding army of fans.  And as such, it should come as no surprise that the Mondo Gallery’s second-ever show would end up being based on Ward’s series.  On Friday, that show opened in Austin, TX, and was quickly followed by an Adventure Time marathon/screening at the Alamo Drafthouse.   Wanna see some art from the show?  Hear what an Adventure Time marathon (and specialty menu) was like for someone who’d never seen the series?   Wanna read an exclusive interview with Pen Ward and Adventure Time star Tom Kenny?  It’s all after the jump, folks.

Last week, Mondo unveiled two stunning Avengers posters for Black Widow and Hawkeye.  Mondo, the collectible boutique arm of the Alamo Drafthouse, has assembled (zing!) a series of posters that tie into Marvel’s all-star superhero pic, and today they’ve unveiled posters for Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and Hulk.  My personal favorites of the bunch are either Hulk or Iron Man, though the glow-in-the-dark variant of Thor is pretty damn gorgeous.  Frankly, there’s not a bad one in the whole batch.

Hit the jump to check out the posters, and then seethe with envy of those who’ll be able to get their hands on them.  Captain America and Hulk will go on sale at a random time tomorrow (Thursday), while Thor and Iron Man will go on sale on Friday.  If you thought it was hard to get your hands on a Mondo poster before, I can’t even imagine how quickly your fingers will have to move in order to nab one of these.  As always, follow @MondoNews for on sale announcements.  The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th.

Though you may be suffering a bit from Avengers marketing fatigue (I feel your pain), I assure you this piece of material is a breath of fresh air.  Mondo, the glorious collectible boutique arm of the Alamo Drafthouse, has kicked off their series of Avengers posters with one sheets for Black Widow and Hawkeye.  The latter has a 60s spy vibe, while the Black Widow poster is at once elegant and dangerous.  Though I think the Hawkeye design is a lot of fun, I’m kind of in love with the Black Widow poster.  The brushstrokes, the gun, the tagline; it’s all fantastic.  I seriously can’t wait to see Mondo’s designs for the five remaining characters.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Black Widow was designed by Olly Moss and goes on sale on April 19th, while Hawkeye was designed by Tom Whalen and goes on sale on April 20th.  As always, follow @MondoNews for on sale announcements.  The posters will be available for purchase at a random time on their respective days.  The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th.

Last month, we reported that the Alamo Drafthouse would be spending this summer honoring the summer of 1982 by holding screenings of Conan the Barbarian, The Road Warrior, Rocky III, Poltergeist, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Thing, and TRON, with all the movies being presented in 35mm.  Tomorrow, a limited number of badges—priced at $80—will go on sale here at 11am CST and provide admission to all these movies.  The Drafthouse will also be selling tickets to the first movie in the series, Conan the Barbarian, which will play on May 11th.

In addition to the terrific movies that have already been announced, the Drafthouse has added 11 more movies to the summer series: Vice Squad, Escape 2000, The Sword and the Sorcerer, The Secret of Nimh, Pink Floyd: The Wall, Class of 1984, Friday the 13th: Part 3 in 3D, Halloween 3, Q: The Winged Serpent, The Dark Crystal, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and The Last Unicorn.  The badges won’t cover these movies, so you’ll have to buy tickets.  Hit the jump for the full press release, which includes info on when you can buy tickets for each movie (and you better come to Rocky III since we’re co-hosting it!).  We’ve also included a look at Dan McCarthy’s gorgeous E.T. posters, which will be sold at the E.T. screening with any leftovers being sold online).

This weekend, there were a ton of things that you could’ve been doing on Saturday afternoon in Austin, TX:  the 2012 SXSW Film Festival was in full swing, with something like 90 movies available to badgeholders;  celebrity encounters  were to be had all over downtown;  there was drinking to do, restaurants to frequent, panel discussions to attend at the Austin Convention Center.  Any of these options would’ve been great, of course, but the biggest draw of the day was—without question—the opening of the Mondo Gallery just north of downtown.  Wanna know what the opening was like, what new prints were made available, and what Mondo’s creative director, Justin Ishmael, has to say about the company’s new headquarters?  Read on for the news, after the jump.

We’re big fans of Mondo—the collectible boutique arm of the legendary Alamo Drafthouse—here at Collider. They commission and make available gorgeous works of art inspired by movies small and large, commercial and cult hits. This past weekend Mondo opened their first ever gallery in Austin, TX, right in the middle of the SXSW Film Festival. The gallery opening was a huge success, and I’m incredibly jealous as both Steve and Matt got a chance to attend and take a gander. For those of us not lucky enough to make the trip, Mondo has made available images of some of the prints they had on display for their inaugural sci-fi show. They include stunning works including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, A Trip to the Moon, War of the Worlds and more.

The soundtrack and Cliff Martinez‘ score for Drive will be revered for years to come.  The music plays perfectly into the 80s vibe, so it’s only fitting that the geniuses at Mondo will release the soundtrack and score on vinyl this summer.  To sweeten a deal that was already pretty sweet, Mondo has hired artist Tyler Stout to design the album cover and packaging, and there will also be a limited edition screen-printed poster.  The 2xLP is due out in June, so you’ve got a little time to track down a record player.

While I’ve come to expect great things every time Mondo unveils a new poster, this morning they revealed what might possibly be my favorite one yet. The collectible boutique arm of the Alamo Drafthouse announced an extraordinary triptych poster for one of the most popular film franchises here in nerd-land: Back to the Future. The poster set, by Phantom City Creative, features three posters (one for each film in the franchise) that when lined up side-by-side form the DeLoreon. In addition to the three separate posters (sold as a set), they will also make available a variant of the posters that combines all three. The set of three will run you $88 while the variant costs $120. The posters will go on sale at some point tomorrow, and are sure to cause a frenzy over at Mondo’s site. I would do terrible, terrible things to get my hands on this poster set.

Hit the jump to check out the posters in all their glory, and be sure to follow @MondoNews for the onsale announcement.

For what seems like forever, rumor shave been running rampant that Mondo—the movie poster-producing arm of Tim League’s Alamo Drafthouse—would be opening up its very own gallery in Austin, TX.  These rumors increased after Mondo’s sole physical location shuttered its doors last year, and increased again earlier this week when a batch of mysterious invitations were sent out, inviting a select group of Mondo enthusiasts to…well, something that would be taking place during this year’s SXSW Film Festival.  What were those invites for, who’s going to be there, and why should you care (especially if you’re attending SXSW this year)?  All will be revealed after the jump, folks.

We cover Mondo quite a bit here at Collider, the reason being that they create really, really, really cool posters, and today the collectible boutique arm of the Alamo Drafthouse announced a series of posters to coincide with this year’s Academy Awards. Mondo will be releasing limited prints of four of their favorite nominated films from 2011, and they’re kicking things off with Martin Scorsese’s lovely ode to cinema, Hugo and Gore Verbinski’s stellar and quirky Rango. I’m a huge fan of both movies, and these Mondo posters capture the essence of each film perfectly. The two other posters in the series will be announced next week, but today you can take a look at Hugo by artist Kevin Tong and Rango by artist Tom Whalen.

Hit the jump to check out the posters for Best Picture Nominee Hugo and Best Animated Feature nominee Rango. All four posters will go on sale during the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26th. As always, follow @MondoNews for on sale announcements.

The prints have debuted on five different sites today, and we’re happy to exclusively bring you Mondo’s poster for the fifth and final entry in the original Apes franchise, Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

TOP 5: GHOST RIDER SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE Set Visit, Benedict Cumberbatch Talks STAR TREK 2, Mondo’s Justin Ishmael, BRIDESMAIDS Sequel, WAR HORSE

With awards-season upon us, I’ve been doing my best to catch up with any potential contenders that I may have missed up to this point. Without a doubt, the standout of late has been writer/director Tate Taylor‘s The Help. I had heard from several friends that the pic was solid but nothing special. After finally getting a chance to sit down with it myself, I have to say that I disagree. I think it’s better than that. Not only is it filled with great performances, but it also finds a way to be more than a story of how a caring white person can help those otherwise hopeless black people. If only 2009′s The Blind Side could go back in time and take note.

But enough of my own cinematic experiences, in this week’s “Top 5″ you’ll find a recap of our visit to the Romanian set of Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, Benedict Cumberbatch talking about his villainous role in J.J. AbramsStar Trek sequel, our interview with Mondo creative director Justin Ishmael, the possibility of a Bridesmaids world without Kristen Wiig, and video interviews with War Horse‘s Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Tom Hiddleston and more. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.
