Two Clips from ON THE ROAD; Plus a Round-Up of the First Reviews from Cannes

The long-awaited first feature film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road is finally hitting theaters later this year, and two clips have landed online.  One clip features a scene between Garrett Hedlund’s Dean and Kirsten Dunst’s Camille, while the other clip centers on Kristen Stewart’s character.  As you may or may not have heard, Stewart tackles the sexually charged character of Marylou head-on with more than one nude scene, and it’s clear from the first reactions to the film that some of her young Twilight fans may be a bit shocked to see their beloved Bella promiscuously taking part in three-ways—if they’re old enough to get into the R-rated film in the first place, that is.

Two New Clips from LAWLESS Featuring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Guy Pearce

In a summer filled with superhero spectacles and sci-fi extravaganzas, it’s nice to get back to the roots of Depression-era, moonshine-runnin’ crime dramas.  Director John Hillcoat (The Road) has the cure for what ails you in Lawless, an adaptation of the Matt Bondurant novel, “The Wettest County in the World.”  Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Tom Hardy (Inception) as the Bondurant brothers, Southern bootleggers during the Prohibition era.  A new clip from the film shows a nice moment between the two characters and highlights the range of both.  Another clip introduces the strangely androgynous character, Special Agent Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce) who has swooped in from Chicago to shut the Bondurants down.  There’s some good stuff on display here, hints of which were seen in this trailer.  You should also check out these awesome character posters.  Lawless, also starring Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan will debut in theaters on August 29th.  Hit the jump to see the clips.

7 Clips from SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN Starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth

We’ve been provided with seven clips from director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman to share with our readers.  The film takes an epic and dark approach to the classic Snow White tale, with Kristen Stewart starring as the titular heroine who trains alongside the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) in order to defeat the evil queen (Charlize Theron) who is bent on destroying the young beauty.  I’m a big fan of what we’ve seen thus far, and I’m eager to see Sanders’ fantastical and gritty visuals on full display once the film hits theaters.

Matthew McConaughey Clip Round-Up: THE PAPERBOY with John Cusack and Jeff Nichols’ MUD

The prestigious Cannes Film Festival kicks off next week, and we’re starting to see some promotional materials from a few of the films that will premiere at the fest.  We’ve already seen a stellar trailer for the prohibition-set crime drama Lawless and a fantastic clip from director Andrew Dominik’s (The Assassination of Jesse James) Killing Them Softly.  Now a few clips have surfaced for two Cannes films (both set in the South) that feature Matthew McConaughey.  The first is director Lee Daniels’ (Precious) adaptation of The Paperboy, which features McConaughey and Zac Efron playing a pair of brothers who team-up to investigate the potential wrongful conviction of a death-row inmate (John Cusack).

We also have two clips from director Jeff Nichols’ (Take Shelter) deep South drama Mud, which finds McConaughey playing a fugitive hiding out on an island in Mississippi who, with the help of two young boys, tries to escape and reunite with his lost love (Reese Witherspoon).  Hit the jump to check out the clips.

Three Clips from MEN IN BLACK 3

The first two clips from director Barry Sonnefeld’s Men in Black 3 have gone online.  Both clips are heavy on the action and light on the dialogue, but one of them gives us a look at those strange single-wheel vehicles in motion.  When we first caught a glimpse of the vehicle, I was instantly reminded of this South Park episode.  Now that we’ve seen them in action, well, they still look like that God-forsaken machine.  The other clip highlights a short conversation between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones before they get to blastin’ aliens.  Nevertheless, I’m mainly excited about three things for Men in Black 3: Josh Brolin’s spot-on Tommy Lee Jones impression, Rick Baker’s incredible alien make-up, and Bill Hader.  If you missed them, be sure to check out over 40 images from the film that include some fantastic looks at Baker’s aliens, as well as Steve’s wide-ranging interview with Sonnenfeld.

9 Movie Clips and 12 Minutes of Behind-the-Scenes Footage from Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS

With Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows opening May 11, Warner Bros. has provided us with 9 clips and 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film.  The film stars Johnny Depp as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants.  Dark Shadows also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller.

While the reaction to the last trailer was mixed, I’m excited by everything I’ve seen and think Depp and Burton look like they had a blast bringing their passion project to life.  In addition, I’ve spoken to a few people that  have seen the movie and all of them have said positive things.  Hit the jump to check out the footage and look for new interviews with the cast soon.

5 Clips from THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT

We’ve got five new clips from the upcoming comedy The Five-Year Engagement to share today.  The film comes from Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote the screenplay with star Jason Segel, and follows a couple through the ups and downs of their extended engagement.  I loved the first trailer and included the pic in our most recent iteration of the Most Anticipated feature, so I’m quite looking forward to what Stoller and Segel have put together.  If you missed them, you can check out Steve’s set visit coverage including 20 things to know about the film and bunch of on set interviews.  We also just posted 24 images, which you can check out here.

6 Clips from THE THREE STOOGES

Six new clips from The Three Stooges have gone online.  Yes, the movie looks terrible, but it also looks like it’s staying true to the source material.  The problem is that staying true to the source material and then trying to transport it into a modern setting doesn’t look like it will work.  There’s also the argument that the movie is for kids, who will enjoy the slapstick and goofy sound effects.  Unfortunately, there probably aren’t a lot of kids who are die-hard fans of a 1930s comedy trio.  It all comes back to “Who is this movie for?” and I don’t have a good answer.  But I will say this: Fox is screening the movie for critics, and despite the cringe-worthy trailers and clips, I’ll do my best to give the movie a fair shake when I see it in its entirety.

5 Clips from WRATH OF THE TITANS Starring Sam Worthington and Liam Neeson

We’ve been provided with five clips from the upcoming sequel Wrath of the Titans to share with you today. Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) takes over the director’s chair this time around and takes a more practical approach to the effects than Clash of the Titans.  The film finds Perseus (Sam Worthington) tasked with stopping the titans and saving Zeus (Liam Neeson) from Hades’ stranglehold (Ralph Fiennes).  Though Clash wasn’t exactly warmly received, Worthington has stated that he feels they did things right this time around. After seeing the film the other night, I agree.  Wrath of the Titans is what I hoped Clash of the Titans would be.  Trust me, the sequel is a vast improvement and a really good fantasy movie.

5 Clips from AMERICAN REUNION

With writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg‘s American Reunion opening in a few weeks, Universal has just released five clips.  In the sequel, the original gang return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion and as the synopsis says, “In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship.”  I’m a big fan of the first film and looking forward to seeing Jim, Oz, Finch, Kevin, Stifler and of course Stifler’s mom again.

American Reunion stars Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, Katrina Bowden, Dania Ramirez and Shannon Elizabeth.  Hit the jump to watch the clips.

4 New Clips and 8 Minutes of Behind-the-Scenes Footage from MIRROR MIRROR

We’ve been provided with four clips and some behind-the-scenes footage from Tarsem Singh’s Snow White film Mirror Mirror. The tone is still incredibly light, but it’s a bit less “farce” than what we saw in the trailers.  The best way I can describe Mirror Mirror (based on these clips) is that it’s like a classic Disney animated film has been magically transformed into live-action; the actors and environments are real, but it retains all the dialogue, costumes, and action/movements from its previously animated iteration.  I would imagine the film wouldn’t appear near as ridiculous if everything was animated, but when you have actors wearing goofy hats and spouting corny line after corny line, it all seems bizarre.  That said, I do think Mirror Mirror comes off quite a bit better in these clips than it did in that atrocious first trailer.

3 Clips from JEFF WHO LIVES AT HOME Starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms

From writers/directors Jay and Mark Duplass (Cyrus) comes Jeff Who Lives at Home, a coming of age comedy for two men who are already well beyond their youth.  Starring Jason Segel (The Muppets) and Ed Helms (The Hangover) as two brothers, with Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) as their mother, Jeff Who Lives at Home follows Jeff (Segel) as he searches for meaning in his life and inadvertently helps his brother, Pat (Helms) discover a truth of his own. We have three clips from the film that highlight the very funny rapport between Helms and his onscreen wife Judy Greer, a fairly awkward phone conversation between Segel and Sarandon, and the giant Segel uncomfortably riding in a tiny Porche. I was already pretty sold on the dramatic stuff from the trailers, but these clips focus on the lighter side of things and the jokes land solidly, so hopefully that carries over through the entirety of the movie. Jeff Who Lives at Home opens March 16^th.  Hit the jump to check out the clips.

3 Clips and Over 6 Minutes of Behind-the-Scenes Footage from THE HUNGER GAMES [Updated]

With director Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games opening March 23, Lionsgate has just released the EPK (electronic press kit) and it includes two clips and over six minutes of behind-the-scenes footage.  While you’ve probably already seen the clips, the on set footage is definitely new and it includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and a lot more of the cast either rehearsing or filming their scenes.  If you wish you could have been on set watching Suzanne Collins’ characters come to life, this is the next best thing.  Hit the jump to watch.   You can also click here for over thirty images from the film. Watch a 10 Minute Clip from JOHN CARTER

John Carter delivers on the epic sci-fi/fantasy adventure that it’s promising.  But the nicest surprise for me was the humor that writer/director Andrew Stanton (Wall-E) layers throughout.  Disney has posted 10 minutes from the beginning of the movie, before John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is transported to Mars.  The clip establishes the main character and sets up the rest of the film through the eyes of a fictionalized version of a young Edgar Rice Burroughs (Daryl Sabara).  But I recommend watching it to get a sense of just how funny the movie can be, here exemplified by a neat comic set piece created through editing.

Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Polly Walker, Thomas Haden Church, and Willem Dafoe also star in John Carter, which opens in IMAX and 3D on March 9th.  Watch the clip after the jump.

4 Clips from 21 JUMP STREET

21 Jump Street is going to surprise you.  Not only is it one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time, it’s got some great action and awesome performances from all involved.  If you had told me that the pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would be comedy gold, I would have never believed you.  But they are.  Also, another big surprise was Ice Cube.  I’ve seen the film twice and both times he brings the house down with his almost everything he says.  Trust me, you want to see 21 Jump Street and I’d advise seeing it with a crowded theater.  It’s a blast.
