As the current 3D trend is taking over movie theaters everywhere, it’s now poised to invade your living room. In order to complement the surge in production of 3D televisions and Blu-ray players, The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has announced 36 titles set to be available just in time for the holiday season, with dozens more to follow in early 2011. 10 of the titles will hit stores on November 16, just in time for Black Friday.
The releases include a wide range of titles from AIX Records, DreamWorks Animation, Giant Screen Films, Image Entertainment, IMAX Corporation, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video. It also includes a number of high-profile titles that will be released as exclusives for certain 3D televisions. “We are excited to see so much industry support for bringing Blu-ray 3D home,” said Ron Sanders, President, Warner Home Video and President, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group. “And now, consumers buying 3D home entertainment systems over Black Friday weekend will have ample 3D programming to accompany them.” For a full list of films being released on 3D Blu-ray for the holidays, hit the jump.

Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D already has its leading man in Nicolas Cage, but our own Steven Weintraub can confirm Blood Disgusting’s scoop that William Fichtner and Amber Heard are in talks to star alongside Cage. Fichtner, whom many of you might remember for playing the bank manager with the shotgun in the opening sequence of The Dark Knight, is a veteran with over 50 acting credits to his name. Meanwhile, Heard has been on a roll lately, recently starring in The Stepfather and has four films in post-production. Here’s the synopsis for Drive Angry 3D:
The story centers on a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.
The screenplay, penned by Lussier and Todd Farmer, reunites the team behind My Bloody Valentine 3D, which Patrick Lussier directed and Todd Farmer helped script. Filming is set to begin in Louisiana in March with a planned Feb. 11, 2011 release by Summit. For more on Drive Angry 3D, read this.

If you’ve been reading Collider the past few days, you’ve seen what I’m calling “7 Days with Producer Mike De Luca”. The reason for the name is, I was able to speak with De Luca for an extended amount of time and rather than post everything at once, I’ve broken our conversation up into smaller parts. I’ve already posted what he said about the Metal Gear Solid movie and Ghost Rider 2, and now it’s time for his updates on Drive Angry and Dracula Year Zero.
If you haven’t heard of Drive Angry, it’s going to star Nicolas Cage and it’ll center on a man who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. It’s going to be a hard R and in 3D. Also, it’s directed by Patrick Lussier, who recently did the very fun My Bloody Valentine 3D. According to De Luca, “it’s hyper pulpy.” He also says we can expect “car parts and body parts flying at you in 3D.” Awesome.
The other update was on Alex Proyas’ Dracula Year Zero. According to De Luca, the project is still at Universal and he’s trying to get the studio to think it could be one of their big tentpole releases. He says, “as written it’s literally on the scale of Braveheart with Dracula.” Much more after the jump:
The original “My Bloody Valentine” came out in 1981 and is considered a cult classic. Though not many saw it, those who have (including me) have developed a following for its downright intense death sequences and inventive ideas (for its time). In fact, Tarantino himself called it his favorite slasher film of the 80′s. Since everything these days is either a sequel or remake, it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate decided to release a newer, updated version of the film. Instead of just creating some garbage, popcorn movie, they decided to spend a lot of money getting a decent cast and implementing the use of 3-d technology. Honestly, the results were not disappointing.
