Naomie-Harris-Berenice-Marlohe-Skyfall-interview

At the recent New York press day for Skyfall, I was able to speak with Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe (the newest “Bond” girl).  We talked about  what was it like making Skyfall and collaborating with Sam Mendes, how the film is very grounded and it’s the old versus the new, since they both have intimate scenes with Daniel Craig, what was he like to work with and a lot more.

I absolutely loved Skyfall.  Director Sam Mendes has crafted one of the best James Bond movies ever made.  While the Bond franchise is now 50 years old, Mendes has shown the best might be yet to come.  I really can’t recommend this film enough.  For all our Skyfall coverage including our review, clips, posters, my set visit and more, click hereSkyfall also stars Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Helen McCrory, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Whishaw.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.

SKYFALL Review

The James Bond film franchise has stood for 50 years.  It has lived, died, returned, died some more, returned again, and as the longest-running blockbuster franchise in history, it constantly walks the line between life and death regarding the series’ potency.  There likely will always be another James Bond film, but the character’s relevancy is always in question.  Can the modern audience accept Bond in a world where a grittier spy like Jason Bourne seemingly has more power to engage audiences?  Isn’t James Bond a relic that can’t convincingly survive in a post-9/11 world?  The latest Bond film, Skyfall, explores these question is a fascinating, compelling manner and does so within one of the series’ most exhilarating, perfectly crafted, and absolutely captivating entries to date.

Sam Mendes’ James Bond flick, Skyfall, the 23rd installment in the famed franchise, opened strongly in the U.K. with $32 million, but has continued that trend to set a one-week box office record.  Pulling in $60 million, Skyfall beats out previous seven-day record holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which nabbed $57 million in 2011.  Internationally, Skyfall claimed $83 million (up from its initial estimate of $77 million) on its opening day and has since crossed the $100 million mark.  This achievement is especially remarkable considering there’s no ticket price uptick for 3D.  Hit the jump to see what other records Skfyfall has set, and what the positive buzz means for its domestic opening on November 9th.

Will There Be a Black James Bond One Day? Idris Elba Reportedly Tested for the Role

The buzz on the upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall, has been ecstatic, so of course it’s time to rush past the present and look to the future.  And the future could hold a black James Bond.  If that seems like a highly unlikely possibility, then it should come as a surprise that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli met with Idris Elba (Prometheus) for the role according to Skyfall actress Naomie Harris.  “I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris,” said Harris, “and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond.”

4 new clips from director Sam Mendes’ James Bond film Skyfall have been released.  I’m trying my best to temper my expectations following the incredibly positive early reviews, but these new clips aren’t doing me any favors.  All signs point to Mendes having crafted a Bond film for the books, and opening day can’t get here soon enough.  We’ll have video interviews with the cast soon, but until then check out Steve’s set visit and on-set interviews with MendesDaniel Craig and producer Barbara BroccoliBerenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris.

In the newest clip released for Sam Mendes’ James Bond flick, Skyfall, Bond (Daniel Craig) is up to old habits: namely gambling and womanizing.  This thirty-second spot shows Bond playing cavalier with his hard-earned winnings and introduces him to Severine (Berenice Marlohe).  They must have hit it off since they later meet up for a refreshing Heineken on a passenger train.  We also have the first look at Harald Zwart’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones in a behind-the-scenes featurette with cast interviews.

Skyfall, also starring Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris, opens November 9th stateside. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones stars Lily Collins, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Kevin Durand and opens August 23rd, 2013.  Hit the jump to check out the clip and featurette.

If you missed any of the recent trailers for Sam Mendes’ James Bond flick, Skyfall, or the excellent theme song by Adele, you’re in luck because now you can enjoy them both together!  The theme song is great on its own and I’m sure that it’ll fit nicely with the opening credits of Skyfall, but it feels a bit forced in this patched together trailer.

Skyfall stars Daniel Craig, Ben Whishaw, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem.  It opens stateside November 9th.  Hit the jump to see the new trailer.

Sony Pictures has released fifteen new images from the upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall.  As you’ll see from the images, new MI6 agent Eve (Naomie Harris) just won’t be about in the rough-and-tumble field.  She’ll also get to dress up nice and pretty to kick some ass.  Also, looking at these images and at the trailer, I love the way cinematographer Roger Deakins has shot this film.  Then again, I love the way Roger Deakins shoots anything.

New Videoblog for SKYFALL Focuses on Bond Girls Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe

A new videoblog for Skyfall has landed online, and this time the Bond girls are the focus.  Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe play two very different female characters in director Sam Mendes’ entry in the franchise, but both actresses are aware of how the female role in the Bond films has changed over the years.  Harris notes that it’s “not enough just to look pretty anymore,” and her field agent can more than hold her own.  Marlohe, on the other hand, describes her character as a femme fatale with a great deal of complexity.  It’s been nice to see the series evolve from its chauvinistic roots, and I’m eager to see what Harris and Marlohe bring to the table.

We can now confirm what we reported yesterday, that Daniel Craig will return for the next two James Bond films.  Craig will star in the 24th and 25th installments, making him the third-longest tenured actor to play Bond (after Sean Connery and Roger Moore).  Deadline also confirms that Sony Pictures will also return to co-finance those two films, as it has with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and the upcoming Sam Mendes picture, Skyfall.  Speaking of Skyfall, we’ve got new word on just how long the film will run along with a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the opening sequence.  Hit the jump for all of that and more!

Skyfall, also starring Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe and Ola Rapace opens October 26th in the UK and November 9th in the US.

With the release date looming closer, a batch of new images from the 23rd James Bond film Skyfall has landed online.  Director Sam Mendes takes the reins this time around with Daniel Craig’s Bond facing off against an uber-creepy Javier Bardem as the film’s villain.  These new images are revelatory in that we learn James Bond has difficulty shaving when there are ladies present, and he gets very angry when you knock over his favorite statue.

New Banner and 4 Character Posters for SKYFALL

skyfall-movie-banner-slice

Sony has released a new banner for the upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall.  I thought the teaser poster was a bit bland (it could have been used for any James Bond film), but it’s a masterpiece compared to four characters standing in front of a logo.  The banner almost looks like it’s trying to advertise clothes than a movie.  It’s also odd that they’ve pushed poor Daniel Craig all the way to the side.  Yes, from left to right the position makes some sense, but if you look at it as a whole, the villain (Javier Bardem) is the one who grabs your attention.

Hit the jump to check out the full banner.  The film also stars Berenice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph FiennesSkyfall opens November 9th. [Update: Character posters for each actor have now been released, and these are also included after the jump]

First Full Trailer for New James Bond Movie SKYFALL Plus the New International Trailer

A full trailer for Skyfall has been released, and it looks like Bond is back in a big way.  Anyone who was disappointed by Quantum of Solace (about 90% of the population, myself included), will likely be back on board with director Sam Mendes‘ take on the franchise.  The upcoming flick looks like it has everything audiences want from a James Bond picture: style, big set pieces, sex, and more style.  Mendes looks like he knows what sets Bond apart from other action stars and taken full advantage of it.  If you’ve been let down by the majority of this summer’s action movies, there may be an excellent one this November.
