While speaking to actors about the movie they’re promoting is always great, if you really want to find out why certain decisions were made behind the scenes, you’ve got to talk to the filmmakers and the crew that worked on the movie. And that’s why I think fans of the Twilight movie franchise are going to enjoy my interview with Eric Leven from Tippett Studios. Because during our extended conversation, Leven (who was the visual effects supervisor on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) discussed why the wolf effects were done a certain way, the difference between Chris Weitz and David Slade on the look of New Moon and Eclipse, is Tippett Studios working on Breaking Dawn, and we also talked about 3D and other projects like Priest and Immortals.
While the entire interview is really interesting as Leven is completely honest about why the wolves looked a certain way, the thing most fans are going to love is the very end of the interview. That’s because he talks about the very limited Twilight collectibles that were made for the New Moon and the Eclipse crew. If you’re a Twilight collector, I’m pretty sure you don’t have these. Hit the jump to watch the interview. It’s time indexed so you can watch the parts you’re interested in.
[Update: Tippett Studios has provided high-res images of the collectibles; check them out after the jump]

The first clip from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has hit the net thanks to the just released New Moon DVD. The scene features Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) talking in a bedroom with Edward telling Bella that she shouldn’t become a vampire as he knows the consequences.
Since Summit will probably pull the clip off YouTube, hit the jump to check it out while you still can. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse gets released June 30, 2010

Early estimates for the first Friday in December are in and it looks like more good news for Sandra Bullock and The Blind Side. In its third Friday in theatres, the modestly-budgeted football drama flattened its competitors, including some little teen flick called New Moon. True, the competition isn’t all that stiff on the Friday following Thanksgiving, but the fact that Blind Side just keeps defying the odds is sort of heartwarming. Someone should make a movie about it. New Moon, meanwhile, isn’t exactly wallowing in second place. The super-successful sequel is cruising past the $250 million mark right about… now! As expected, new releases Brothers and Armored did not make big entrances on Friday, coming in third and fourth respectively. Full details on all of this week’s releases when you check back here tomorrow.
| Title | Friday | Total | |
| 1 | The Blind Side | $6,800,000 | $115.6 |
| 2 | New Moon | $5,200,000 | $245.1 |
| 3 | Brothers | $3,570,000 | $3.5 |
| 4 | Armored | $2,400,000 | $2.4 |
| 5 | Ninja Assassin | $1,700,000 | $26.4 |

If you are a fan of The Twilight Saga, I don’t have to tell you what a big day this is. It’s probably been circled by a red heart on your day planners since, um, last November. For box office reporters, however, this is a big day for another reason. The release of New Moon at 12:01 am this morning had the potential to overturn the midnight box office record set by The Dark Knight back in July of 2008. New Moon already had the record for midnight presales so the only question left to ponder was how high Bella and Edward would go. No official numbers from Summit are yet available but it looks like that $18.4 million record The Dark Knight claimed has indeed fallen.
According to Variety, estimates for the 3,514 North American New Moon theatres put the film’s midnight total at $26.3 million. This means that The Dark Knight opening day record of $67.1 million is in danger of succumbing to Twilight mania. We all knew it would be huge, but huge enough to beat The Dark Knight? That’s a horse of another color. A huge horse. We’ll keep you updated as the weekend numbers start to come in.

With Twilight a worldwide phenomenon, Summit Entertainment sent some of the stars of their mega successful franchise around the world to help promote the movie. One of the places they went was Brazil. As most of you know, when you watch any video on Collider, you see two logos. One is ours and the other is for our Brazilian partners Omelete.
So when Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were in Sao Paulo, Brazil last week, our partners at Omelete got to interview the two of them on camera. They talked about going to Brazil, would they want to film part of Breaking Dawn there, and what’s been the changes from the first movie to the second. While you may get to watch tons of interviews with the stars of Twilight here in America, how many of you have seen one that was filmed in Brazil! Check it out after the jump:

As I wrote this summer when I posted my exclusive Comic-Con interview with The Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, she has the difficult task of trying to bring Stephanie Meyer’s insanely popular book series to the screen. So while writing any movie is difficult, writing one that has so many passionate and knowledgeable fans is taking it another level. Luckily for her, the Twilight fans I’ve spoken with have really enjoyed her work and are anxiously awaiting the sequels.
When I spoke to Melissa Rosenberg a few months ago we talked about how the increased budget changed the way she writes and what did she have to edit out of books two and three to make them into movies. This time I decided to ask about her reaction to watching New Moon, has she seen any of Eclipse, who came up with the way to keep Rob Pattinson in the movie as a ghost-type image, and I also tried to find out, hypothetically speaking, if she thinks more would have to be changed from the book in the eventual fourth movie, Breaking Dawn. I also asked if she has an opinion on Breaking Dawn being two movies. If you’re a fan of The Twilight Saga, you’ll love the interview. Take a look after the jump:

Sorry, Star Wars: Episode III, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Dark Knight, and Twilight. With five days remaining until it opens in over 4,000 theaters nationwide, The Twilight Saga: New Moon has become the biggest advance-seller in history for the online movie ticket seller, Fandango.com. The tickets went on sale starting on August 31st and while midnight showings across the country are sold out, theaters are continually adding new screens for the film which means new tickets are becoming available.
This is interesting as far as the box office is concerned because there’s the possibility it could determine whether or not Summit, the studio behind The Twlight Saga, will go ahead with Breaking Dawn, the final book in the series and the one with the most mixed reception among fans. With a strong enough weekend opening, we may be hearing on November 23rd that Breaking Dawn is a go. However, with such massive advance sales, I’m curious to how much New Moon could rake in. Openly almost a year to the day of Twlight, it should beat the first film’s opening take of $69 million but by how much? I’m horrible at predicting box office but I think it will gross overtake Half-Blood Prince‘s take of $77 million but not break the $100 million mark. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has the year’s highest opening weekend with $108 million.

I think Michael Sheen is one of the best actors working in Hollywood. No matter the role, he disappears into his character to the point where you forget he’s acting. Think about it: Sheen has played real people (Tony Blair in The Queen, David Frost in Frost/Nixon, and Brian Clough in The Damned United, among others), and he’s also managed to work in genre movies like Underworld and its sequels. And while he’s been in a couple dozen movies over the last decade, he’s about to appear in some very high profile films like Tron Legacy, Alice in Wonderland and some vampire movie called The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Sheen plays Aro, the leader of the Voluri (the vampire governing council). And while I am still under embargo from talking about the movie, I don’t think anyone will be upset if I tell you he’s great in the movie and fans are going to love his portrayal.
Last week, I managed to get an exclusive interview with this fantastic actor and we talked about working on New Moon, his upcoming movies like Alice in Wonderland and Tron Legacy, how he prepares for his roles, and he tells some great stories about how he came up with his character in New Moon and what happened with his driver who took him to the hotel (It has to do with Twilight). If you’re a fan of Michael Sheen, I promise you’ll love the interview. Take a look after the jump:

With “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” getting ready to hit theaters on November 20th, Summit Entertainment has released an EPK for the media to use. If you’re not familiar with the term EPK, it stands for Electronic Press Kit. An EPK is where the studio puts movie clips, trailers, and behind the scenes footage from whatever movie they’re promoting.
Anyway, I’ve taken the movie clips Summit released, as well as all the behind the scenes footage, and posted two videos after the jump. While the three clips have already been released over the past two weeks, the ten minutes of behind the scenes footage is all new. So if you’ve been waiting for “Twilight: New Moon”, you’ll really enjoy the footage of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner on set. Take a look after the jump:

I thought everybody involved in last year’s fiasco learned their lesson. I thought wrong.
In an effort to raise awareness for the upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon”, Summit Entertainment is planning another mall tour with select members of the cast. While it’s not yet known who is going to be at each location, the tour is hitting 15 cities and the locations and dates are after the jump.
And if you’re thinking this sounds familiar…that’s because last year they did the same thing and it caused chaos and pandemonium in every mall they stopped at. Then again, the publicity from all the craziness got them tons of extra media coverage. Look for the same thing to happen again this year. If you’re interested in learning more, hit the jump for the official press release.

As I said the other day when I posted the new “Twilight Saga: New Moon” clip and images, with the film getting ready for release next month, Summit Entertainment is going to be releasing a lot more clips from the film. While I thought we wouldn’t get another one till next week, Yahoo has landed a new one and it’s called “Volturi Fighting Scene”. It’s the first time Edward and Bella face the Volturi. While I thought the first “Twilight” movie was passable, this new one is definitely looking a lot better as I’ve already seen clips from two action scenes. That’s one more than the entire last film. Watch the clip after the jump:

If you thought the last few months have been quiet regarding the “Twilight” phenomenon, get ready for a media explosion. That’s because the second chapter, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, will be hitting theaters in exactly a month. This means magazine covers, tons of interviews, and a lot of coverage on every website. Because while some might not get the rabid fandom regarding this franchise, the fans are passionate and deeply committed, which means they follow what’s going on. As I’ve said repeatedly, I’m cool with loving “Twilight”, because I did the exact same thing with “Star Wars”. If I said anything negative, I’d be a hypocrite.
Anyway, Summit has released a new clip from the movie called “Jacob’s Transformation” and a few new images. Check them out after the jump. Also, a movie typically releases six to nine clips before the release so this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Three new movie posters have been released for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and they feature the Cullens, the Volturi, and the Wolf Pack. Since I haven’t read the books, I can’t say if the actors portraying the characters look the part, but I did recently see the trailer for “New Moon” and have to say…it looked a hell of a lot better than the first film. Who knows, maybe director Chris Weitz actually made the “Twilight” film the fans have been dreaming about. We will all know soon enough as “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” hits theaters November 20th. Take a look at the new posters after the jump.

A few hours ago I spoke with Michael Sheen regarding his new movie “The Damned United”. While I’ll have much more on his new film soon, I was able to ask Michael about some of his other projects like “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, “Tron Legacy”, “Alice in Wonderland” and the “Underworld” franchise. So if you’d like to hear what Michael had to say about those projects, hit the jump.

The first full trailer for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is frustrating. It’s frustrating because if you didn’t pay attention to any of the narrative stuff and just turned the sound off, you’d have a visually impressive film. Director Chris Weitz and cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe (who also shot John Hillcoat’s “The Road” which hits theatres five days later so as far as DP work goes, that’s a fun juxtaposition) have made a film that completely blows away Catherine Hardwicke’s all-blue-filter, all-the-time style of the first “Twilight” film.
But then there’s the story and you have a girl who has become so dependent on a boy that instead of just having normal teenage sadness about a break-up, she makes attempts at suicide through reckless behavior. What’s worse is that as the trailer continues the messages appears to be, “Don’t be a strong, independent woman,” as much as it’s, “My boyfriend needs me and I have to save him or else I’ll be lonely and weak again!” But I’m sure that the “Twilight” fans have ignored all my commentary and skipped straight to the trailer after the jump. “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” opens and feminism suffers on November 20th.
