The kids are back in school, the leftovers are congealing in the fridge and you’ve already run through all the releases at your local multiplex. Such is life on the weekend after the Thanksgiving Holiday. The upshot is that there isn’t much to talk about in terms of box office. We’ve got holdovers as far as the eye can see - and they’re not holding very well at that. In fact, overall box office is down 13% this weekend from 2009 levels when The Blind Side claimed first place.

As expected, the trajectory of Tangled took it past Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 this weekend. Disney owes its first place fortunes to those higher 3D tickets and to the fact that the only other straight family film in release – Megamind – has now been around for five weeks. Our number one film brought in an estimated $21.5 from its 3,603 theatres – a decline of 60% from its debut weekend. Tangled is also running ahead of Disney’s 2007 Thanksgiving release Enchanted after two weeks in release: $96.5 million to Enchanted’s $70.

Harry Potter 7A fell an estimated 66% in its third weekend with an estimated weekend gross of $16.7 million. That’s a bigger third week drop than previous Potter pics, but with its total domestic take now topping $244 million, that news isn’t going to sting too badly.

If you grew up in the 80's, you'll remember there was briefly a ninja phase in cinema. Sho Kosugi ruled the universe of Canon for one brief moment, and everywhere people were buying Tabbi boots. Children longed for shurikens, but would have to settle for the similarly-premised wacky wall-walkers. To sum up: The 1980's were fucked up. There's some enjoyable nostalgia to be found in Ninja Assassin, if you remember those days (and boots) fondly. Rain stars as Raizo, who was trained as a ninja, but now wants his revenge against his ninja family, including Ozunu (Kosugi). There's also some government involvement, which allows Naomie Harris to have a role. My review of Ninja Assassin on Blu-ray after the jump.

The premise is simple enough. Rain's Raizo wants revenge cause they killed his woman. Harris's Mika Coretti serves as the point of exposition, allowing her to explain the tradition and skills of said ninjas to which Rain is an ex-tribe member. This allows our entry point into the world ninja-ing, and from there, basically the movie stops every couple of minutes to have ninjas battle Rain, or ninjas battle the team of government bad-asses that come from Harris and her people. Like all films like this, the ninjas tear through swat teams, at least until the very end.

Running a reasonably swift 99 minutes, Ninja Assassin runs into the same problem that a lot of movies like this run into, in that you've come for one thing, and the film knows it. ...

As if the folks at Summit Entertainment didn't have enough to be thankful for after the record-breaking debut of The Twilight Saga: New Moon last weekend, the vampy drama also dominated the holiday frame. New Moon passed the $200 million mark on Friday and ended its second weekend in theatres with over $230 million domestically. The only day out of the past five that New Moon didn't own? Thanksgiving Thursday. That belonged to Warner Brothers' surprise-hit The Blind Side which nearly tied for first place thanks to a nice jump in ticket sales over its first weekend. Between these two holdovers, new releases like WB's Ninja Assassin and Disney's Old Dogs had to fight over box office table scraps.

I read a poll recently which said that over 50% of Americans go to the movies at least once during the five day Thanksgiving holiday. Why that particular tradition never got a heartwarming animated TV special of its own I will never know. Still, Hollywood studios count on that level of attendance to finish their calendar year, which is why Thanksgiving is considered one of the most important weeks of the year at the box office. 2009 did not disappoint. Attendance was up over the same period last year and the estimated $278 million taken in by all titles during the past five ...

A few days ago I attended the Los Angeles press junket for director James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin. While I already posted my four minute video interview with McTeigue and Rain (the lead in Ninja Assassin), I was able to get some extra time with McTeigue the following day. Since I'm a huge fan of V for Vendetta and his work with the Wachowskis on Speed Racer, I decided to use my extended interview to ask about his other projects and home video questions.

So after the jump I try and get James McTeigue to tell me what the Wachowskis are working on, his next project on Edgar Allen Poe (The Raven), the Superman and Magneto rumors, what's on the Ninja Assassin DVD/Blu-ray, could Hugo Weaving be in his Edgar Allen Poe movie, his thoughts on Star Wars (he was second unit director on Episode Two), extended edition DVDs, and a whole lot more! It's a great interview so take a look:

As usual, here's what we talked about in order. And if you'd like to see some movie clips from Ninja Assassin, click here.

James McTeigue

What is up with the Wachowskis? Does he know what they are working on?
He says they finished writing a "very cool script and they are in the middle of writing another one". He goes on to say "they are trying to produce a number of scripts so, yeah, they've got a bunch of stuff going."
Is Joel Silver and the Wachowskis relationship over?
Is he amazed at how many people ...

At last weekend's press junket for Ninja Assassin, I had the opportunity to speak with producer Joel Silver twice. The first time was an exclusive TV interview, and the second time was during a roundtable interview the following day. While I normally would be happy to use just one of the interviews, since Joel Silver is producing so many high profile projects (Lobo, Sgt. Rock, The Apparition), I knew getting to speak with him twice would be a good thing.

Also, what a lot of people don't realize is how much info a producer can tell you. While it's always great to talk with an actor, unless you're a Brad Pitt, most actors don't have that much juice to get a project made. So that's why getting to speak with Joel Silver is so great, because not only can he talk about all his projects that are getting made, he can give you the status of projects like Lethal Weapon 5, or the next Shane Black movie, or even tell you they once almost remade Commando!

While most of this interview explains how Ninja Assassin got put together, he does reveal Sherlock Holmes is two hours and the studio really wants to make sequels. Lethal Weapon 5 is dead. And he answers the big question....why hasn't he acted since Rogger Rabbit! Hit the jump for details:

As always, you can either read the transcript below or listen to the interview by clicking here.

Question: I want to start off by asking the big question. ...

Opening this Wednesday is director James McTeigue's (V for Vendetta) Ninja Assassin. The film stars Asian superstar Rain in the title role and as you can put together from the title, it's about Ninja's. And assassin's. The film is loaded with ninja action and blood, so if you're into either of those things, this is pretty much a must see movie. Finally, it's produced by the Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver (The Matrix Trilogy, V for Vendetta), and they've done a few things you might have liked...

A few days ago I sat down with Rain and James McTeigue to discuss making the movie, filming in Berlin, Comic-Con, and a lot more. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Finally, here are some clips from the movie. And look for extended interviews with James McTeigue and Rain on Tuesday night/Wednesday. I did a lot of press for Ninja Assassin so lots more coming.

Rain and James McTeigue

Does it matter where they do press
Why did they shoot in Berlin and what was it like to make the film there...especially the outdoor sequence with ninjas
	Comic-Con experiences
	Filming on the orphanage set
What was it like working with the Wachowskis on this

As most of you know, I am a huge Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix, Bound, Speed Racer) fan. Whenever I do an interview with anyone who knows the brothers, I always try to find out what they're up to as they don't do any press. If you follow the brothers, you know they produced Ninja Assassin and the film arrives next week. But beyond Assassin, they have nothing scheduled to be released and there are no rumors about what they might be working on.

But at today's press junket for Ninja Assassin, I finally got someone to tell me the brothers are at least working! While I didn't find out what the projects are (believe me I tried), this is the first time anyone has said anything regarding their future projects. Believe me, I look for news on the Brothers constantly.

According to screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski, "they have a number of things in development. Some of them are large projects and some of them are smaller projects. I can't imagine Larry and Andy never working ever again. The brothers are always developing something." While I know this is almost a non-story, if you're a fan of the Wachowskis, I figured the news was worth sharing. If anyone knows what they are working on, please email me!

With Warner Bros. Ninja Assassin set for release next week, the studio held a press day this afternoon here in Los Angeles. While I'll have plenty of video interviews for you to watch over the next few days, the first one I'd like to share is with producer Joel Silver. Also, since Silver is producing tons of other projects like Sherlock Holmes, The Losers, Sgt. Rock, Lobo, Unknown White Male, and The Book of Eli, I figure his interview is the first one I should post.

While I didn't get any major scoops, I did find out what's up with Lobo and what does he think of Jeffrey Dean Morgan for the role. Also, we talked about how Francis Lawrence landed the directing job on Sgt. Rock and does he think it might get made next year. Of course many other subjects were talked about so watch the interview after the jump:

Finally, here's a link to some clips from Ninja Assassin.

Joel Silver

Did he always want to be a ninja
What was the importance of showing Ninja Assassin at Comic-Con
Lobo talk - talks about the test they just made and how it'll play at Comic-Con
When will we hear about casting on Lobo?
I ask if he likes Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Lobo
How does he balance all his movies coming out with stuff he has in development
Says they are starting to film Unknown White Male in Berlin in 2 months
What's been his reaction to the footage from The Losers
Sgt. Rock talk - how did Francis ...

Opening on November 25th is director James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin. The film stars Asian superstar Rain in the title role and as you can easily put together from the title, it's about Ninja's. And assassin's. Also, the film is loaded with action and blood so if you're into either of those things, this is pretty much a must see movie. Finally, it's produced by the Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver (The Matrix Trilogy, V for Vendetta), and they've done a few things you might have liked....

Anyway, if you'd like a taste of the movie, after the jump you can watch six clips. In the coming weeks check back for interviews with the cast and filmmakers. Until then....

Here's the synopsis:
Raizo is one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them...and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow, Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal ...

You can now buy your 4 day Comic-Con 2010 pass now for $100. Sure, Comic-Con is still almost an year away, but I can guarantee you that it's safer to buy your passes as early as you can before it's too late. I've never been to the mecca of all things geek, but I do know that it's a pain to get a pass and that passes were already selling out 3 months in advance this year. I only expect it to get more difficult this year as Comic-Con only gets more popular each year. If you know you are already going for sure, then why not get your passes now? If something comes up there is always Ebay and people who were not as smart as you and waited until the Con was six months away.

Hit the jump to get on getting passes and if you need convicing for some reason you can also read Matt's reasons you should go.

Matt's Words of Wisdom: As crowded and as crazy as it can be, I think Comic-Con is a great event. In my second year of attending I had a really great time not only from what I saw in Hall H but just the various events, folks I met, and that it felt like a festival. It's not a film festival-although it did help boost positive buzz for "District 9" and "Ninja Assassin" and confirmed that "Mystery Team" was one of the year's best comedies-but a festival in the sense ...

MTV aired a program tonight called "Behind the Screen" and they showed off new clips from "Jennifer's Body", "Ninja Assassin", "2012" and some behind the scenes footage from "Clash of the Titans". Thanks to the magic of embedding, you can see the clips after the jump. Take a look:

JENNIFER'S BODY
A sexy horror film with a wicked sense of humor, JENNIFER'S BODY is about small town high school student Jennifer (Megan Fox), who is possessed by a hungry demon. She transitions from being "high school evil" - gorgeous (and doesn't she know it), stuck up and ultra-attitudinal - to the real deal: evil/evil. The glittering beauty becomes a pale and sickly creature jonesing for a meaty snack, and guys who never stood a chance with the heartless babe, take on new luster in the light of Jennifer's insatiable appetite. Meanwhile, Jennifer's lifelong best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried), long relegated to living in Jennifer's shadow, must step-up to protect the town's young men, including her nerdy boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons).

Everything is 100% more awesome when you do it with Lego. So if you're like me and believe that statement, you're going to need to see the video after the jump. That's because Keshen8 on YouTube has posted his version of the "Ninja Assassin" trailer...except his version is made with Lego! It's kind of great so take a look:

And if you're wondering how it compares to the real trailer, it's further down the page.

When Warner Bros. announced their Comic-Con schedule, the first film I looked for was "Ninja Assassin". After all, the film arrives in theaters November 25th, so it's a perfect movie to promote at the convention. Also, as a big fan of "V for Vendetta" (which was the last pairing of the Wachowski Brothers and director James McTeigue), "Ninja Assassin" is on my must see list. So when it wasn't on the list of films being promoted, I was a bit concerned.

But thanks to an extremely reliable source, I can report the reason they weren't promoting the film during their panel is because they are showing the entire film at Comic-Con. And the best part for all of you, it's open to the public! Want to know how to go, it's after the jump:

According to my source, the screening day and time is still being determined. They told me they're hearing Thursday night. But while the exact info is still being figured out, I can tell you how to get tickets for the free screening.

What you need to do is go to the Warner Brothers booth on Thursday as they're going to be giving away a limited amount of tickets. Then you'll need to get to the theater early as it's going to be first come first served. Meaning, even if you get tickets at the booth, you're going to want to be at the theater early as they're giving away more tickets than seats. It's how they make sure the ...
