Paramount has teamed up director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) for Collider, which is easily the best title in the history of film. The sci-fi film will be directed and co-written by Wright, who will also share producing credits along with J.J. Abrams and Nira Park of Bad Robot. Any plot details are non-existent at the moment, but it could very well involve an intrepid group of web journalists who unite to save the world…or maybe the recent news surrounding the Large Hadron Collider at CERN; either way. Hit the jump for more on Wright and Protosevich’s upcoming projects to see where Collider might land.

The international trailer for Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block has gone online. If Cornish’s name looks familiar, it’s probably because his credits include co-writing The Adventures of Tintin and Ant-Man with Edgar Wright. Wright serves as one of the executive producers on Block, which is about a teen street gang who take on hostile alien invaders. While the trailer plays up the Shaun of the Dead connection (Nick Frost co-stars, Nira Park and James Wilson are producers), that’s not a bad film to call back. It’s also a similar-sounding set-up: a director who understands the conventions of a genre (in this case, alien invasion flicks), mixes it with a low-key setting, and is able to derive both laughs and thrills from the result.
2011 has no shortage of alien flicks, but Attack the Block looks like it could be a standout. Attack the Block will play at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. It opens in the UK on May 13th.

Universal has released six movie clips from director Edgar Wright’s (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Based on the awesome graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley, the movie has an amazing cast featuring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, and Jason Schwartzman. I caught a screening at Comic-Con a few days ago and am happy to report the film is brilliant. Wright has somehow managed to do the impossible as he’s brought the universe and characters of Scott Pilgrim to life and it feels real and perfect. Trust me, if you’re a fan of the comic, you’re not going to believe how awesome it is. And even if you know nothing about Scott Pilgrim, don’t worry, you’re still going to love this film. It’s that good.
Anyway, for a taste of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, hit the jump and watch 6 clips! Scott Pilgrim gets released August 13.

When director Greg Mottola’s Paul was filming in New Mexico last August, I was invited – along with a few other online journalists – to visit the set and watch some filming. With Paul written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I’ll admit to being incredibly happy to be there since Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two of my favorite films from the last decade. If you’re one of our few readers who hasn’t seen those movies, I need you to stop what you’re doing and buy them. Trust me, once you watch them both, you’ll understand when geekdom loves Pegg and Frost.
Even though both actors were busy on the set of Paul, we managed to get some time with them in the afternoon. They talked about making their first “American” movie, where the idea of Paul came from, how they were adapting to working with a CGI creature as a main character, working without Edgar Wright, and so much more. If you’re a fan of Pegg and Frost, you’re going to love the interview. As usual, I’ve provided a full transcript and the audio after the jump:

While on the set of director Greg Mottola’s Paul last August, I was able to participate in a roundtable interview with Producer Nira Park. While you might not recognize Nira Park’s name, I promise you have seen some of the things she’s produced: Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and she’s also producing Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. So…like I said…you’ve seen her work.
As you might imagine, when you’ve produced everything that Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have made together, you’re going to get an interested group of online reporters. So when she had a break, we sat down with her to talk about how the project came together, how was she dealing with going back and forth to Toronto on Scott Pilgrim, how have the guys changed, working with a CGI component, and so much more. Hit the jump to either read the transcript or listen to the audio:

In the next minute or so, Collider is going to be flooded with Paul coverage. That’s because last August, right after Comic-Con, I got to visit the set while the production was filming in New Mexico. With the embargo lifting this morning on all our coverage, Universal has graciously provided us with the first official images from the production. While all the images are sprinkled in with my coverage, I wanted to do a separate post so they’d be easy to find. So hit the jump to check out the first images of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Greg Mottola’s Paul! You might even see me in one of the shots. Read my set visit for how I’m in the picture.
