As all of you surely know by now, Marvel Studios is gearing up for a second round of films (chief among them Iron Man 3, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Thor: The Dark World) that will pick up where Joss Whedon’s The Avengers left off.  The format’s exactly the same as it was the first time around:  each film advances the story of both the hero at its core and the overall Avengers mythology, and eventually it’ll all come together in The Avengers 2.

And it’s already started:  Iron Man 3’s on the verge of being released, and just last night Marvel revealed Thor: The Dark World’s first trailer.  The response to that preview seemed very, very positive…and we’re expecting a similar response to the quintet of Thor: The Dark World posters recently revealed by UK artist Olly Moss (even if most people probably won’t ever be able to buy one).  We’ve got ‘em after the jump, folks.

Limited Paper: Mondo’s Second-Annual Oscar Night Poster Drop Featured 14 New Posters Including Tyler Stout’s DJANGO UNCHAINED & Durieux’s THE MASTER

Last year, Mondo put together a fun little event for the 2012 Academy Awards:  a few days prior to that Oscar Sunday, Mondo announced that a series of brand-new posters (all of which were based on that year’s Oscar-nominated films) would be dropping throughout the Academy’s broadcast.  Everyone dug the idea, the whole thing went off without a hitch, and—most importantly—waiting on a drop gave all of us something to focus on whenever watching the Oscars became too much to bear.

And so, when the Mondo guys announced they’d be doing it all over again in 2013, we were pumped (as were many of you).  But once that excitement died down, we were left wondering which of 2012’s Oscar-nominated films would get the Mondo treatment…and which of the rumors we’d been hearing would turn out to be true.  Answers to those questions (and many more) await you after the jump, folks.

Mondo Unveils Oscar Posters for THE MASTER, LES MISERABLES, and PARANORMAN

During the Academy Awards broadcast last year, the good folks at Mondo dropped a few gorgeous prints from films that were nominated.  They’re doing the same thing this year, and today they’ve unveiled the first three posters in their second annual Oscar series: Laurent Durieux’s The Master, Olly MossLes Miserables, and DKNG’s ParaNorman.  All three posters are unsurprisingly excellent, but I’m absolutely mesmerized by Durieux’s entrancing print for The Master.  It’s a stunning piece of work, and I’m sure many of you will be angling to nab a copy during Sunday’s ceremony.

Mondo says that many more posters will be unveiled during the awards show broadcast, when said prints will also go on sale.  Hit the jump to preview these first three prints, and start preparing to do some very fast typing on Sunday night.  As always, follow @MondoNews for the on-sale announcements.

Check Out Olly Moss’ Incredible Poster for the 85th Academy Awards

Even if you hate the Oscars, you’ll love what artist Olly Moss has done for the official 85 Years of Oscar poster.  We previously showed you individual posters by various artists for this year’s Best Picture nominees, but Moss’ work outshines them all.  He’s taken every single Best Picture winner and tried to fit them into the Oscar statue in one image.  Some of these are particularly brilliant (it took me a few moments to figure out how he represented 2001′s winner, A Beautiful Mind), and it’s a fun game to try and guess the each year’s Best Picture winner from Moss’ poster alone.

We know that Gallery1988 is teaming up with the Academy for something big this Thursday through Sunday.  They are giving away 100 of each of the Best Picture nominee posters, and it will be interesting to see if they do anything special with the Moss poster.  More details should be announced in the next day or so.  Hit the jump to check out Moss’ 85 Years of Oscar poster and find out how you can buy it now.  The 85th Academy Awards will be held on February 24th at 7pm EST on ABC.

Limited Paper: We Pick 2012’s Top 5 Posters and Name the Year’s “Most Vital Artist”

Because—as we all know—the appreciation of any piece of artwork is subjective, Limited Paper totally recognizes that the series we’ve been running this week (The Top 20 Posters of 2012) might be the most pointless thing we’ve ever spent a serious amount of time considering, but I’ll be damned if it hasn’t been a tremendous amount of fun:  the first two parts of our list (part one here and part two here) resulted in some of the most enjoyable, friendly debates that Limited Paper’s had via email all year.  Yes, it’s pointless to “rank” art, but as the saying (I just made up) goes, “If there’s one thing collectors love doing more than collecting, it’s debating about the things they collect.”

Today, we’re here to pull double-duty:  first, we’re going to finish off our Top 20 Posters of 2012 list by naming the year’s five best prints…and then we’re gonna tell you which artist we thought was the year’s “Most Vital”.  Wanna find out who made the cut?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

For now, all is quiet in Poster World (“…not a gallery was stirring…”), but the year ain’t over yet, folks!  Is a mind-blower of a poster drop lurking somewhere between now and January 1st?  If so, will it be the poster we’re all hoping it’ll be, or something else entirely (our money’s still on a Martin Ansin Parental Guidance)?   Eh, who knows?  Speculation like this only drives everyone crazy, and after we all just spent a week being driven nuts by our families, who needs that?  Instead, let’s focus on wrapping up our Top 20 Greatest Posters of 2012 list.

Confused?  Everyone who missed Part One can get caught up on the back half of our list here.  Once you’ve done that, check out our next round of picks (some of which might surprise you) by clicking the link below.  Who made the cut?  And who’s probably gonna end up being named Poster MVP, 2012?  Meet me after the jump to find out more, Princess.

If you’re an Olly Moss fan—and, really, who isn’t?  No, seriously, let’s find that person and figure out what the hell’s the matter with them—then you’re probably already familiar with the trio of Batman-themed sketches pictured above.  Moss created ‘em awhile back (if memory serves), but for the longest time there wasn’t any indication as to when we might get our hands on them.  That gap in our knowledge was filled this morning, when Moss dropped the entire set on his website as a timed edition.

That’s right:  you can pick up one (or all three) of Olly Moss’ Batman’s Rogues Gallery series right now, without fear of any sell-outs, over at Olly’s site.  Wanna know more, see bigger pictures?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

This morning, Mondo and Olly Moss revealed a set of posters that we’ve all been waiting a long, long time to see here at Limited Paper:  Moss’ take on Peter Jackson’s Lord of The Rings.  This particular print has been rumored for months now—and was heavily rumored to be dropping at a previous Mondo-related event—but should anyone be surprised that we’re seeing it drop on the eve of the release of Peter Jackson’s latest trip to Middle Earth (The Hobbit, if you’ve been living under a rock)?

Wanna see Olly Moss’ take on The Lord of The Rings?  Find out where you can pick one of these up tomorrow?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

Yesterday, the dapper gentlemen over at Mondo did something that was—for them—historic:  for 24-hours, anyone with $40 was given the opportunity to pick up the regular edition of Olly MossDark Knight Rises Comic-Con poster.  That’s right:  anyone.   For one glorious day, not a single potential customer was greeted by the notorious “Out of Stock”/”Sold Out!” screen, and there was much rejoicing.  But just how many posters can Mondo sell in one 24-hour period?  Well, if the artist attached to the poster is Olly Moss, and if the poster-in-question celebrates one of the year’s most anticipated movies…the answers is over nine thousand!  Hit the jump for more.

While the infamously awesome San Diego Comic-Con may be over for another year, Limited Paper’s coverage from last week’s “gathering of the geeks” is far from over:  for the next week or so, we’re going to be bringing you a ton of post-Con coverage, including interviews with Olly MossJason Edmiston, and rising screenprint superstar Mark Englert, video footage from the frontlines of Mondo’s biggest Comic-Con poster-drop (that’d be Moss’ The Dark Knight Rises) and much, much more.  But before we get into all that, we wanted to share something a little different:  a ton of photos, taken in and around “Club 437” (the wink-wink name a few of us gave to booth #437—the booth Mondo called home during the Con) by the latest addition to the Limited Paper team, Billy Garrett.

Want to see what you missed if you weren’t at SDCC last week?  Meet me after the jump.

Ever since Comic-Con 2012 kicked off this past Wednesday, the word ‘round the campfire has been that Mondo’s biggest release—the one everyone would be talking about after the Con, the one that everyone was going to be determined to get their hands on, the one print to rule them all—would be dropping on Saturday night.   There didn’t seem to be any concrete info to support this suspicion, but that didn’t keep poster-nerds the world over from repeating it whenever they got the chance.  And ya know what?  Even though limited-paper enthusiasts are generally 5/10 when it comes to predicting drops, they were absolutely right about tonight’s release of Mondo’s The Dark Knight Rises print by Olly Moss.

Read all about that—and the rest of Mondo’s Saturday-at-Comic-Con output—after the jump.

LIMITED PAPER is Headed to Comic-Con and We’ve Got Info on Releases from TOM WHALEN, DANIEL DANGER, OLLY MOSS, and More!

Olly-Moss-Daniel-Danger-comic-con-2012

Comic-Con 2012 sounds like one of the most massively exciting, probably-chaotic, and assuredly-fragrant gatherings of film geeks, comic nerds, and costumed weirdoes ever assembled.  People from all over the globe are converging on San Diego this Wednesday, and—for the first time ever—your humble Limited Paper scribe has given in and consented to join that undulating mass of geekery.  But it ain’t because Arnold Schwarzenegger’s gonna be there, and it ain’t because Django Unchained footage is screening.  It ain’t even because Peter Jackson’s got Hobbit stuff to share.  No, I’m going for the limited paper…and if you’ll meet me after the jump, I’ll tell you (just about) everything I know about what the poster-collecting community can expect from Comic-Con 2012 which includes Olly Moss, Daniel Danger, Tom Whalen, Dave Perillo and more.

Limited Paper #1: Posters from Gallery 1988, Mondo, Dark Hall Mansion and Tom Whalen, Rhys Cooper, Phone Booth, Drafthouse and More

As you’ve probably noticed, movie-poster collecting has turned into a Ron Burgundy-sized “Big Deal” over the past few years:  everywhere you look, brilliantly talented artists like Martin Ansin, Tyler Stout, and Olly Moss are joining forces with places like Gallery 1988, IAm8Bit, and the newly-opened Mondo Gallery to create collectible, gorgeously-rendered works of art based on your favorite movies and TV shows, and every time one of these posters drops…a poster-collector is born.

And where do we–the die-hard paper-geeks of the world– go for our news?  For our drop announcements?  For interviews with our favorite artists?  For reckless rumor-mongering about upcoming events?  One or two dark corners of the internet might traffic in the kind of information collectors crave, but we think we can streamline that process a bit (and even if we fail, it is an excuse to ramble on about posters for the umpteenth time, and we never get tired of that).  Wanna see what we’ve put together?  Check out Limited Paper #1 after the jump, folks.

Mondo to Release MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO Posters by Olly Moss

by     Posted: December 14th, 2011 at 2:34 pm

On Friday, Mondo will release two prints for Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro by Olly Moss because of course they are.  They already have licenses for Pixar, DC Comics, Star Trek, and eventually everything else you love or will ever love.  The Totoro poster coincides with the start of the IFC Center’s Studio Ghibli retrospective.  Mondo is also planning to release a poster for Miyazaki’s Porco Rosso.

The folks who pick up some Totoro greatness should know that their money will go to a good cause (an actual good cause, not getting an awesome poster for yourself).  Mondo and Studio Ghibli will donate all profits to Ghetto Film School, a non-profit organization of educators and students who share of storytelling and filmmaking.  Hit the jump for the press release and more details on the poster and its variant.  The posters will go on sale at a random time on Friday.  Be sure you’re following @MondoNews for the announcement.
