Cam Gigandet Exclusive Interview at Comic-Con; Talks PRIEST, TWILIGHT, and Says He’s Been Cast in TRESPASS Along with Nicolas Cage

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: July 26th, 2010 at 10:00 pm

A few days ago I got to speak with Cam Gigandet at Comic-Con.  While some of you may recognize him from The Unborn, The O.C., Never Back Down or Pandorum, most of you will probably know him from the first Twilight movie as he played James (the villain).  Since wrapping on Twilight, Gigandet has been working constantly and he’s got a few projects set to come out soon…with one of them being Screen Gems Priest (which was the reason I got to speak with him at Comic-Con).

During the interview we talked about how he got involved with Priest and what the film’s about.  We also talked about why he’s so press shy, what it’s like being back at Comic-Con, his thoughts on 3D movies, what does he take away from being in the Twilight franchise.  He also revealed he’s been cast in director Joel Schumacher’s Trespass alongside Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman.  Hit the jump to watch the interview:

PANDORUM DVD Review

Pandorum is a survival in space story starring Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid.  The entire movie revolves around the survivors of an apparently failed attempt to save humanity while simultaneously trying to piece together what happened to ruin the mission.  Also, mutant cannibals wreak some havoc.  And perhaps most importantly, there is a gratuitously-cleavaged, German heroine.  You can read my full review after the jump.

Weekend Box Office – It’s Still CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS for Moviegoers

Despite mounting an early and aggressive advertising campaign for their high-concept sci-fi thriller “Surrogates”, Disney could not catch up to Sony’s holdover hit “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” in time to claim the number one spot on the charts.  After opening up a small lead on Friday, the 3D animated toon finished with another $24 million on its second weekend, making it easily the most-successful release of the month at $60 million in total.  September had more bad news for its new releases as both MGM’s reboot of “Fame” and Overture’s sci-fi horror flick “Pandorum” struggled to find their footing.  Ha! Get it?  The dancers of “Fame” couldn’t find their footing!  More witty bon mots after the jump.

Title Weekend Total
1 Cloudy w/a Chance… $24,600,000 $60,036,000
2 Surrogates $15,000,000 $15,000,000
3 Fame $10,000,000 $10,000,000
4 The Informant! $6,915,000 $20,992,000
5 I Can Do Bad… $4,750,000 $44,543,000
6 Pandorum $4,408,000 $4,408,000
7 Love Happens $4,327,000 $14,728,000
8 Jennifer’s Body $3,500,000 $12,306,000
9 9 $2,832,000 $27,101,000
10 Inglourious Basterds $2,732,000 $114,460,000

Friday Box Office – CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS Reigns for a Second Friday

Audiences haven’t tired of the 3D toon “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” quite yet. Sony Animation’s demographically-appealing feature film brought in another $5.2 million on its eighth day out: a decline of only 31% from its number one debut last Friday.  This means that a second weekend at the top of the box office is now likely.  The film that was supposed to take over that number one spot, Disney’s sci-fi thriller “Surrogates”, was not far behind “Meatballs” with an estimated $5 million from its 2,951 dates.   But if Bruce Willis was going to stage a coup he would have had to make his move before the more kid-centric Saturday session.  Meanwhile, more bad news for MGM as their first feature release of 2009, “Fame”, registered a debut of only $3.5 million from its 3,096 engagements.  Check back tomorrow to see how fall’s first weekend at the movies plays out.

Title Friday Total
1 Cloudy w/a Chance $5,200,000 $41,000,000
2 Surrogates $5,000,000 $5,000,000
3 Fame $3,550,000 $3,550,000
4 The Informant! $2,100,000 $16,100,000
5 Pandorum $1,526,000 $1,526,000

5 Movie Clips from PANDORUM Starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster

Opening September 25th is director Christian Alvart’s “Pandorum”. The film tells the story of two crew members stranded on a spacecraft who quickly – and horrifically – realize they are not alone. The synopsis says, “two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft.  It’s pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship.  They can’t remember anything:  Who are they?  What is their mission? With Lt. Payton (Dennis Quaid) staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower (Ben Foster) ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality.  Slowly the spacecraft’s shocking, deadly secrets are revealed…and the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined.” So to help promote the film, we’ve been given 5 clips from the movie. Check Out the PANDORUM Motion Poster

Movie posters rarely impress me. It’s not that a lot of new posters aren’t well done…I just feel like every style has been done before and I rarely anything new and innovative. So when I saw the new motion poster for “Pandorum”, I had to share, as I’ve never seen anyone ripping off their skin on a moving poster before. Curious? It’s after the jump:

Exclusive: Ben Foster talks PANDORUM and THE MESSENGER at Comic-Con

Ben Foster image (11).jpg

I’ve been a fan of Ben Foster’s work for awhile now. So when I was offered a chance to talk with the great actor for a few minutes at this year’s Comic-Con, I didn’t hesitate in saying yes. The reason he was there was his new sci-fi movie “Pandorum”. The film is about a pair of crew members aboard a spaceship that wake up with no knowledge of their mission or their identities. And after hearing Ben talk about his character and the film, I have to say, I’m definitely curious. Anyway, watch the interview after the jump:

New PANDORUM Trailer and a Chance to Win a Trip to This Year’s Comic-Con

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 28th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

pandorum_headline_thumbnail.jpgI am rooting for “Pandorum” for one reason and one reason only: Ben Foster.  I am the founder and president of that guy’s fan club and watching his lead a film is cause enough for excitement.

Unfortunately, this trailer does everything it can to try and temper that excitement by looking like a “Doom”/”Aliens” hybrid (and that’s not good since “Doom” already has heavy elements of “Aliens” already) when its hook is a sci-fi mystery and not “Let’s fight monsters on our ship.”  But even if the film is god-awful, I have no worries about Foster.  The guy is incredible in even the worst of movies like “30 Days of Night”.

In a somewhat-related note, Overture is offering a chance for you to attend the 2009 San Diego Comic Con and all you have to do is link to this page and then add “#Pandorum” to your tweet and you’ll be entered for a chance to win 4-Day Passes (which is good since they’re all sold out already), two nights hotel, and airfare plus transportation to and from the airport.  But hurry!  They’re choosing the winner tomorrow morning.  Also, since I’m mentioning Twitter, you can click one of those lovely Twitter buttons on the sidebar to follow Steve or me on Twitter.

We’re great.  You’d really like following us.

Check out the trailer after the jump.  “Pandorum” hits theatres.
