FilmDistrict has pushed back Taylor Hackford‘s Parker to January 25th. Based on the mystery novels by Donald Westlake, Parker stars Jason Statham as the eponymous thief, and co-stars Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Wendell Pierce, Clifton Collins Jr., and Michael Chiklis. The movie was originally set to open on October 12th where it would have faced (and probably lost to) the star-studded The Gangster Squad and the Kevin James comedy Here Comes the Boom.
January, long treated as a dumping ground for likely flops, has started to yield surprising returns. Modestly-budgeted movies like Contraband, Underworld Awakening, The Devil Inside, and The Grey all performed well at the box office, and Parker has the potential to do the same. Currently, the film’s only competition is the breakdancing flick Battle of the Year: The Dream Team (formerly Planet B) starring Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso, and Josh Peck. [Box Office Mojo]

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to land an exclusive interview with Jason Statham for his new action-thriller Killer Elite. Also starring Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Yvonne Strahovski, the flick centers on a retired special ops agent (Statham) who is tasked with rescuing his mentor (De Niro). I caught the film at TIFF and if you’re a fan of Statham and the rest of the cast, it’s definitely worth seeing. Here’s the trailer.
During the interview, Statham talked about being at TIFF, getting to work with bigger names, the kind of research he does and what his typical pre-production process is like, how he gets ready to do action scenes, and how many takes he prefers. In addition, Statham talked about Taylor Hackford’s Parker with Nick Nolte, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Chiklis, and how he’s getting ready to film The Expendables 2 with Sylvester Stallone. We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this evening. First up, Jesse Eisneberg is set to star in director Richard Ayoade’s (Submarine) adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novella The Double. Vulture reports that in a spot-on bit of casting, Eisenberg will take on the lead role of a government clerk whose life is destroyed after what he believes to be an exact copy of himself begins working in his office and attempts to ruin his life.
Additionally, Nick Nolte has joined the cast of Taylor Hackford’s revenge thriller Parker. Stars Michael Chiklis and Wendell Pierce tweeted their enthusiasm on the first day of filming, revealing Nolte’s casting (via The Playlist). Based on Donald Westlake’s series of crime novels, the film is intended to start a new franchise with the title character, this time played by Jason Statham. The cast includes Statham, Chiklis, Pierce, Jennifer Lopez and Clifton Collins Jr.

We have three quick casting stories to report. First up, Michael Chiklis has left behind playing good guy superheroes on the now-canceled No Ordinary Family and will play the villain in Taylor Hackford’s revenge-thriller Parker starring Jason Statham. Statham plays the eponymous character, a thief with a strict moral code. The story is based on Donald Westlake’s series of crime novels and Parker is intended to be the start of a new action franchise. Deadline reports that Jennifer Lopez is still in talks to play the female lead, but I’m just excited to see Chiklis get back into badass Vic Mackey mode (although I wouldn’t classify as Mackey as a straight “villain” as much as a deeply flawed character).
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Chiklis’ The Shield co-star Walton Goggins as well as more casting for the adaptation of What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Jennifer Lopez is in talks to star in two films, Parker and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Jason Statham stars as the titular thief with a strict moral code in Parker, based on the Donald Westlake mystery novels that feature the character. Lopez is eying the female lead, Leslie, a woman who gets involved with Parker during a heist. Taylor Hackford (Love Ranch) will direct from a script John J. McLaughlin (Carnivàle) with the goal of launching an action franchise. Production is scheduled for August.
Lopez is in negotiations with Lionsgate to play Holly, a supporting role, in What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Cameron Diaz and Matthew Morrison star in the film, directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee). Expect What to Expect in theaters May 11, 2012. The script, said to be a romantic comedy in the style of Love Actually, is based on the bestselling book that informs mothers-to-be on all things pregnancy. Jason Statham, the man with the finest British growl in the business, is in talks to star in the new thriller Parker. Adapted from a popular series of novels by Donald E. Westlake (writing under the pseudonym Richard Stark), the film will cast the Crank star as an honorable thief (would Statham ever play any other kind of thief?). The character has inspired several solid cinematic outings before, so the source material definitely has a successful pedigree. The film will be directed by journeyman filmmaker Taylor Hackford for the production company trifecta of Sierra/Affinity, Incentive Filmed Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.
