We’ve got a trio of screenwriter stories to bring to you today. First up, Burn Notice co-executive producer Craig O’Neill is making his first foray into feature films. Deadline reports that O’Neill has been set to rewrite Warner Bros.’ remake of The Count of Monte Cristo. Based on the classic revenge novel by Alexandre Dumas, the film is titled Cristo and is “a futuristic re-imagining” of the tale. The project was first set up based on a spec script by Ian Shorr, and now it looks like WB is looking to have O’Neill take a pass at the screenplay.
Dumas’ story is fantastic, but it’s quite dense and tough to fit into one feature film. I’m interested in hearing what this “futuristic re-imagining” entails and how far it veers from the source material. With an adaptation like this, I’m hoping the script just maintains the basic plot, then spins it off into something original and unexpected (laser fights!). Hit the jump for news regarding an adaptation of the bestselling novel The Art of Racing in the Rain starring Patrick Dempsey and a coming-of-age original screenplay from scribe Leah Rachel.

A last-minute trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has been released, along with a couple of new posters. There’s quite a few new shots to be seen here, and this one really ramps up the action. With Michael Bay doing all he can to ensure that the 3D prints are projected at the highest quality possible, this is gonna be one hell of a visual experience.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and posters. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, John Malkovich, and Frances McDormand. Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 3D on June 29th.

Paramount has sent over some video and a bunch of images from the Transformers: Dark of the Moon premiere in Moscow. So if you’d like to see Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, the band Linkin Park, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura on the green carpet, hit the jump. In addition, the video the studio sent over mixes footage from the premiere with cast interviews.
As I said when I posted the clips earlier today, I can’t wait to see TF3 next week. Everything I’ve seen tells me it’s going to be a really fun ride.

The first trailer for the heist comedy Flypaper has been released. Directed by Rob Minkoff, the film centers on two different groups of robbers who attempt to hold up a bank at the same time. While Tim Blake Nelson is spot on, the trailer seems a bit lacking, trying too hard to be Clue but coming up short. And the Patrick Dempsey/Ashley Judd romance doesn’t seem to work at all. Matt saw the film at Sundance and while he thought the film ultimately didn’t work as well as it tried, it was still good for a few laughs.
In addition to Dempsey, Judd and Nelson, the film also stars Mekhi Phifer, Jeffrey Tambor, John Ventimiglia, and Matt Ryan. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Eight new images from Transformers: Dark of the Moon have been released. This proves yet again that the movie exists and that it will feature actors and giant robots. Thank goodness. I’m glad we could clear that up.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, John Malkovich, and Frances McDormand. Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 3D on June 29th.

A few new images from Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon have hit the net. As most of you know, I’ve seen a lot of footage from the 3rd installment and everything is telling me that Bay has made something special and it’s going to be a huge improvement over Revenge of the Fallen. Also, unlike a lot of filmmakers that don’t know how to use 3D, Bay is using 3D to help tell the story. I think TF3 will be the best looking live action 3D movie since Avatar. Hit the jump for new images of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Josh Duhamel and Michael Bay.

The new trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has gone online. If you want to see the trailer in 3D, it’ll be playing in front of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides starting today. This new trailer is very similar to the first one. It’s just as impressive, and the epic nature of the flick is very prominent. As much as I want to look forward to this, I’m still wary given how cool the trailers for Revenge of the Fallen looked compared to how terrible the actual film was. Nevertheless, the Chicago set-piece looks positively massive. The clip features Josh Duhamel’s character and a bunch of guys jumping out of an aircraft, which is much more exciting than the first clip that consisted of a pissing contest between Shia LaBeouf and Patrick Dempsey.
Hitting 3D theaters on June 29th, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, and voice work from Hugo Weaving, Peter Cullen, and Leonard Nimoy. And if you missed it, be sure to check out Steve’s report from Michael Bay and James Cameron’s recent presentation on 3D here. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

The first clip from Transformers: Dark of the Moon has gone online. Does it feature robots punching each other? Robots coming in from outer space? Robots punching each other as they come in from outer space? None of the above. Instead we see Carly (Rosie Huntingon-Whiteley) leading her boyfriend Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) around her “Starship Enterprise”-like workspace and introducing him to her boss (Patrick Dempsey). The boss shows off how successful he is, how handsome he is, Sam notices that Huntington-Whiteley is a supermodel, and promptly wets himself. Okay, that last part isn’t true, but you can smell his insecurity. You wonder why Sam just doesn’t say “Yeah, I saved the world a couple times with my giant robot friends, but those little trophies are nice.”
Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film also stars Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Ken Jeong, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Peter Cullen, and Tyrese Gibson. Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 3D on July 1st.

The theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon has landed online. We see some pretty fantastic looking footage on the moon, followed by some really impressive stuff back on Earth. We’re talking full-on invasion this time around. We get our first look at Frances McDormand as well. However, as we all know from the second flick Revenge of the Fallen, simply watching robots fight for 2+ hours does not a good movie make (understatement). This one has to be better than Revenge of the Fallen, right? Hitting 3D theaters on July 1st, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, and voice work from Hugo Weaving, Peter Cullen, and Leonard Nimoy.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with the first “synopsis” and a new still from the movie. I put “synopsis” in quotations because it’s more of a logline and not a particularly illuminating one at that.

The films I saw at Sundance this year involved a variety of subjects ranging from hippies to shot-gun wielding hobos to cults to young love to hippies to puppetry to cults to euthanasia to hippies to Roger Corman to cults. I didn’t think my first year at Sundance would close out with an inoffensive, innocuous movie like Flypaper. A caper comedy that wants to be Inside Man meets Clue meets Ten Little Indians but never becomes a fraction as good as any of those movies, Flypaper still manages some laughs due to its manic energy, non-stop jokes, and the brilliant Tim Blake Nelson.

Paramount has released the first teaser trailer for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon and it’s extremely well cut and a great teaser. While many studios love to reveal too much in their trailers and sometimes even in their teaser trailers, this is a perfect example of how to sell your movie without giving it all away. Also, I love the way it works in a huge moment from the late 60′s and makes it connect with the universe of Transformers. I don’t want to spoil it…
In addition, I spent three hours yesterday with Michael Bay and he showed me (and a few other reporters) a ton of footage from the 3rd Transformers movie. In fact, he probably showed us a lot more footage than anyone at the studio expected. But because he lifted the veil on the story and some of the massive action set pieces, I can tell you with certainty the 3rd Transformers movie looks to be the biggest and possible the best of the trilogy. He knows the second one wasn’t what it should’ve been and he’s aiming for a huge improvement in terms of story and action. While he asked us not reveal any spoilers…I saw an action set piece that looks so fraking amazing, even with people firing guns at nothing and some shots just animatics, I was completely invested in the scene and I could follow exactly what they were trying to do. I was blown away by the footage. Trust me, the 3rd movie is going to be a huge improvement and you have never seen action on this scale. It also has a story! Hit the jump for the teaser, the first official image, and a promo poster:

Entertainment Tonight is apparently dedicating a chunk of air time to Michael Bay’s latest opus Transformers: Dark of the Moon and they’ve released a short teaser video that shows off some behind-the-scenes footage. Unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of exploding things, a lot of people (including Josh Duhamel and Shia LaBeouf) standing around staring at things exploding, some people (or possibly robots) parachuting into the middle of Chicago, and Patrick Dempsey is there too. There’s little sign of the giant CG robots, but there is a brief glimpse of a what appears to be a NASCAR-style stock car tearing ass down the middle of a debris-ridden Chicago street. It’s probably a safe bet that the car is probably going to turn into a robot at some point.
Hit the jump to see the video and to read the synopsis for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The film is set to open in 3D on July 1, 2011.

Transformers 3 now has its official title and that title is: Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. TFW2005 first discovered the title through the listing of some upcoming movie tie-in novels, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Secret of the Autobots“, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Autobots Betrayed!“, and “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Invasion of the Decepticons” (all three novels are set to be released on May 17, 2011). We have now confirmed the title with sources close to the production. Nothing is known about the plot of the third film and the title doesn’t really provide any hints. Personally, I think the title “The Dark of the Moon” would work just as well for a sexy R&B album.
Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is in 3D, directed by Michael Bay, and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich. Hit the jump for a brief recap on what we know so far about the film, which opens July 1, 2011.

Point Blank Productions has recruited Dear John director Lasse Hallström to direct Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) in the coming-of-age story Tom’s Dad. According to Variety, Martin Casella’s script sets the film in 1962 Las Vegas, where ” a successful character film actor and a comedy vaudevillian nightclub performer at a crossroads because the changing styles of comedy is making him obsolete. His situation’s complicated by the arrival of his long-estranged young son.” The plot actually sounds very similar to the animated film The Illusionist, though it remains intriguing in both cases.
Dempsey will next star in Transformers 3 and the indie comedy Flypaper. Hallström is attached to direct adaptations of the novels The Danish Girl and Salmon Fishing in Yemen.

In 2007, Disney successfully added another princess to their repertoire with Enchanted‘s Giselle. The clever narrative transported the naive maiden from an animated paradise to “real world” (read: Disneyfied) Manhattan, where she taught New Yorkers how to break into song and that divorce is bad. Notably, the film helped introduce the delightful Amy Adams to the widespread public after she stole every scene (and an Oscar nomination) in the indie feature, Junebug. Representing a huge step in Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation, Enchanted earned solid critical praise and upwards of $340 million worldwide, so understandably, Variety reports that a sequel is in the works.
