In Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, actor Jeremy Renner plays Agent William Brandt, an analyst who is more desk jockey than field agent. When Impossible Missions Force (IMF) operative Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, he is disavowed, along with the rest of the agency, when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol.” Left with only a team of fellow IMF fugitives – including Brandt, Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton) – whose personal motives are unclear, Hunt must find a way to clear the agency’s name and prevent another attack.
At the film’s press day, Jeremy Renner talked about playing a character whose motives may be questionable, how great it is to be a part of such a successful franchise, getting in shape for the physical demands of the role, and how Tom Cruise has helped him prepare for any future action work he’ll have to do. He also talked about currently filming The Bourne Legacy, his work in The Avengers, what attracted him to the James Gray film Low Life, and the process of developing a Steve McQueen biopic. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

A batch of new images and a new clip from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has been released. The film is the fourth entry in the ever-changing Mission: Impossible franchise and finds Tom Cruise and his team going undercover in order to clear they’re name. I’m excited about this movie for a few reasons: director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) is making his live-action debut, Simon Pegg is swell, and judging from the trailers the pic looks to be an engaging and fun action flick. The supporting cast is pretty impressive as well, with Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Tom Wilkinson, Josh Holloway, and Michael Nyqvist rounding out the cast.
Hit the jump to check out the clip and images. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in IMAX and conventional theaters on December 16th.

Paramount has released 17 new images and 5 set photos from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The images show off spy-thriller shenanigans and director Brad Bird directing up a storm of spy-thriller shenanigans. And as you can see from the image above, Tom Cruise is probably contemplating if it’s unreasonable to demand full bars if you’re in a cloud of debris.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, Lea Seydoux, and Tom Wilkinson. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in IMAX on December 16th and goes wide on December 21st. If you see it in 70mm IMAX, you’ll also get see the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises.

With the holiday movie season upon us, a few new images from some of the upcoming Oscar contenders have been unveiled. We’ve got a new look at Michael Fassbender in the extremely well-received drama Shame. Fassbender plays a sex-addict opposite Carey Mulligan, and our own Matt Goldberg loved the flick. There’s also a new image of Rooney Mara from David Fincher’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, another look at Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, and an ominous image of Gary Oldman from the spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Additionally, we’ve got another look at Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, and an image of Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn in the adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
But that’s not all! We’ve also got new images from We Bought a Zoo, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Haywire, Underworld: Awakening, In the Land of Blood and Honey, New Year’s Eve, and One for the Money. Hit the jump to check them out.

New character banners for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol have gone online. Usually we regurgitate advertising that’s in English, but these are in Russian so it’s a nice change of pace.
Hit the jump to check out the banners. The film stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, Lea Seydoux, and Tom Wilkinson. A new trailer for Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has been released. The fourth installment in the espionage franchise finds Ethan Hunt and his new team going undercover to clear their organization’s name. If you missed the featurette we posted earlier showcasing Tom Cruise hanging off the tallest building in the world, click here to check it out.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film also stars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, and Tom Wilkinson. Previews for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol begin in select IMAX and conventional theaters on December 16th, with the film opening wide on December 21st.

Actress Paula Patton landed a breakthrough role with her performance in Precious and now she’s hopped onto another indie drama with Henry Alex Rubin’s Disconnect. Deadline reports that Patton will join Alexander Skarsgard, Andrea Riseborough, Frank Grillo, Michael Nyqvist, Colin Ford, and Jason Bateman in the Andrew Stern-scripted drama. The plot revolves around “disparate lives that intertwine as the digital technologies intended to bring people closer together push families further apart.” I hope the movie is 90 minutes of a parent telling their child, “No cell phones at the dinner table.”
Hit the jump for more details on the film and why I’m dreading it despite the strong cast. Patton will next be seen in theaters this December in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

New images have gone online for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia, the bird-watching comedy The Big Year, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Hit the jump to check out all the images along with synopses and brief descriptions for each film.

Now that Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall has Colin Farrell in the role originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film, the film is casting for the lead female roles. For those who haven’t seen the original film, the two lead female roles are Douglas Quaid’s (Farrell) wife Lori (played in the original film by Sharon Stone) and the other is Martian freedom fighter Melina (originally played by Rachel Ticotin).
Deadline reports that Diane Kruger and Kate Bosworth have read for the role of Lori; Paula Patton, Jessica Biel, and Eva Green have read for Melina, and Eva Mendes has read for both roles. Hit the jump for my thoughts on the casting. Total Recall is set to open on August 3, 2012.

The holidays have run their course for most people, which means the brief break that isn’t often afforded production already in progress is over. Director Brad Bird’s first foray into live action is back on track in Vancouver, Canada, where Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and some cast and crew were photographed on set of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. What is clear is that the weather there isn’t quite as accommodating to Bird compared to working inside a studio–he looks pretty cold. Luckily for him, with a December 16, 2011 release date pegged for the fourth iteration of the franchise, they won’t have to shoot in the winter again. Hit the jump for all of the set photos and a recap of what we know so far.

While you’re gonna have to wait until March to see the sure-to-be fantastic Simon Pegg/Nick Frost starrer Paul, we’ve got some pictures of Pegg, Tom Cruise, and Paula Patton on the set of the next Mission: Impossible film to tide you over. Directed by the superb Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant, Ratatoullie), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is the fourth entry in the popular franchise that’s been spearheaded by Cruise since the first film back in 1996. Bird has assembled a highly impressive cast that includes Cruise, Pegg, Patton, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, Josh Holloway (Lost), Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire), Léa Seydoux (Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood), and Vladimir Mashkov (The Thief). If that wasn’t enough, Michael Giacchino is also doing the score.
We previously brought you some pictures of Holloway on set, as well as Cruise doing some insane stunt work off the side of one of the tallest buildings in the world. While these pictures lack death-defying stunts, they include Simon Pegg, who is just about as awesome as they come. Needless to say, if I had you at “Simon Pegg” (which, let’s face it, I probably did), hit the jump to check out the pictures:

As we previously reported, the fourth Mission: Impossible would not be titled “Mission: Impossible IV“ and as such we had to refer to it with such non-catchy descriptors like “Untitled Mission: Impossible Reboot”. Now, Tom Cruise has revealed the official title for the movie: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (we have confirmation from Paramount that this is the correct spelling). Maybe there can be a nice crossover at some point with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and after their Ghost Mission they can all go out and enjoy a nice Ghost Steak.
The title was revealed during a press conference for the film, which is partially shooting in Dubai. Also at the press conference were costars Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton, producer Bryan Burk and director Brad Bird (The Incredibles). Hit the jump for what they had to say about filming in Dubai as well as Cruise’s thoughts on Top Gun 2 and shooting at 828-meter-high Burj Khalifa tower.

A few days ago we reported that actresses Lauren German (Happy Town), Paula Patton (Precious), and Kristin Kreuk (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) had all tested for the lead female role in the upcoming Mission: Impossible film. Deadline is now reporting that the role has gone to Paula Patton, who will be playing a “a young operative who works with Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character.” Details are still being kept under wraps for the latest installment of the franchise, but here is a quick recap of what we know so far.
The still untitled Mission:Impossible reboot starts production this Fall and will be released on December 16th, 2011.

As we reported earlier today, the fourth Mission: Impossible will be a reboot of sorts for the series. While the film won’t be team-based, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for a young female operative. Deadline reports that actresses Lauren German (Happy Town), Paula Patton (Precious), and Kristin Kreuk (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) have all tested for the part. Tom Cruise will star alongside Jeremy Renner. Ving Rhames is set to return and Simon Pegg is in talks to reprise his role as Benji Dunn. Paramount also reportedly met with Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), but it’s unknown whether it was for the role of the female operative or a different part. The new Mission: Impossible film comes out December 16, 2011.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding John Cusack in The Raven and Ari Graynor in The Sitter.

Virginia Madsen has signed on to play mother to Amanda Seyfried in Red Riding Hood, a “gothic horror reimagining” of the fairy tale. This is director Catherine Hardwicke’s follow-up to the first entry in The Twilight Saga. She’s working with a script from Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson, which (per Variety) is “set in a village haunted by a werewolf.” Madsen and Seyfried will be joined by Lukas Haas, Shiloh Fernandez, Julie Christie, and Gary Oldman on screen when March 11, 2011.
