In 1973, Michael Crichton wrote and directed Westworld, a sci-fi classic that went on to influence The Terminator, Crichton’s own Jurassic Park and one of the best episodes of The Simpsons. A few years later TV creators Richard T. Heffron, Mayo Simon, and George Schenck made a sequel that remains mostly forgotten.

Futureworld does attempt to take the Westworld concept in an interesting direction. Had it worked, it’s not hard to envision a world in which the Westworld saga became a series of increasingly bizarre chapters ala Planet of the Apes. The ingredients are there. Cool robots, counter culture undertones and the awesome camp inherent in 1970s theme park design. Unfortunately, despite some lofty goals, Futureworld is kind of a slog. Hit the jump for our review of Futureworld on Blu-ray.

Two years after Yul Brynner and his robot buddies went awesomely apeshit, the Delos corporation has reopened their park. This time everything is super-100% disaster proof and there is totally no way that robots can run amok again because they replaced the human staff with new, even smarter robots because that is obviously a plan that will work. Surprisingly, it totally does. Ten minutes into the movie, it looks like this is going to be a rehash of Westworld and to Futureworld’s credit, it takes thing in a very different direction. Less to its credit, that direction is super dull and pretty poorly executed.

Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner are reporters who, along with a hand-picked group of world leaders, are invited to preview the now-totally-100%-safe Delos Amusement Park. Fonda, an old school, facts-first newspaperman, stomps around in ...

In the indie thriller House of Bodies, a police detective, a Death Row inmate, a deaf child and a telephone relay operator are brought together via the mysterious events surrounding a grisly string of copycat murders. The common link between each of them is the House of Bodies, a voyeuristic website based in a serial killer's home. House of Bodies, which just started production through Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere's Flavor Unit Studios, will star Latifah, Terrence Howard and Peter Fonda. Latifah and Compere are also executive producing the picture along with Otis Best, Yaneley Arty and Shelby Stone. Hit the jump for more on House of Bodies.

Variety reports that Latifah will star as Nicole, a relay operator who works for a hearing-impaired telephone service. Kyle, a deaf-child who uses the service to chat with Nicole, happens to have a fascination with the macabre that leads him to the House of Bodies. The voyeur website is run out of the former home of Henry Lee Bishop (Fonda), a convicted serial killer serving out his time on Death Row. When Kyle befriends Kelli, a new performer at the House of Bodies, he becomes her only chance for survival as the copycat killer strikes too close to home. Howard plays a police detective who races against the clock to flush out the person behind the killings.

Latifah recently starred in Joyful Noise opposite Dolly Parton. Howard was previously seen in Red Tails and can next be seen in the Walter Salles' adaptation, ...

I was hoping I could get one of the site's other writers to do this story. Someone who didn't loathe "The Boondock Saints" as much as I do, but no such luck. So now I have to hate this trailer apart. I don't want to. I'm always open to the possibility that I may like a movie and that I misjudged the film.

And then one of the characters says "Let's do some gratuitous violence," and that pretty much sums up why I think the first movie is awful and why I think the sequel will be as bad if not worse. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and then if you think these movies are great, say so in the comments and I'll tell you why you're wrong. "The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day" somehow gets a theatrical release on October 30th.

Credit to IGN for posting the trailer (or discredit depending on how you feel about the movie).
