Television shows based around sports have always been a bit of an enigma to me. While I appreciate the need to represent the theme of athleticism on TV it seemed the audience for such a show would be tuning into other programming. That would be actual sporting events, specifically.
This obviously put a series like Sports Night in a difficult predicament. The perceived core demographic is either out playing sports, or watching it on TV (instead of this show) and the remaining viewing audience thinks they need to be sports fans to understand the content. Even with a tagline of, “It’s about Sports. The same way Charlie’s Angels was about law enforcement.” the inherent misperception of who Sports Night was trying to capture as an audience is the most likely reason the series lasted only two seasons.
Trust me when I say, this may have been one of the greatest upsets in television history because Sports Night is simply one of the best shows I’ve watched. It was deserving of overtime, and I’ll tell you why after the jump.

As a remake of the 1989 Ron Howard film of the same name, NBC’s new family dramedy Parenthood will live or die by its cast. But with a playbill this long and fraught with familiar faces-including Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Dax Shepard, Craig T. Nelson, Erika Christensen, Monica Potter, and Mae Whitman among others-you’re bound to find a reason to check it out. The talent behind the camera is perhaps even more encouraging, as creator Jason Katims also serves as the guiding force behind one of the best dramas of the last five years, Friday Night Lights.
Find out whether Parenthood lives up to its immense potential after the break.

Parenthood started out as a successful film from Academy Award-winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer in 1989, went on to be a sitcom featuring Leonardo DiCaprio in 1990 and is now returning as a one-hour drama, premiering on NBC on March 2nd.
From Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims, this new series re-imagines and updates the production to introduce audiences to the very large, very colorful and imperfect Braverman family, played by Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Monica Potter, Dax Shepard and Erika Christensen, among others.
While at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour to promote the series, executive producer Ron Howard explained that he was initially hesitant about revisiting a project that he truly cherishes, but that he realized it’s ultimately about parenting and being part of a family, which is universal to everyone. He also updated the status of the Arrested Development film, which he plans to narrate, as well as the development of the Dan Brown film The Lost Symbol and Cowboys and Aliens.
Check out what he had to say after the jump:

We’re going to need a new word for a trailer that’s shorter than a teaser. The first teensy-tiny-teaser for Beastly, a modern-day spin on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast has come online and it’s 23 seconds long. It’s actually 17 seconds because the MPAA green-band is on screen for six seconds. The trailer informs us that the young protagonist (Alex Pettyfer) is our “ugliness turn inside out,” after goth girl Kendra (Mary-Kate Olson) puts a curse on him. But Vanessa Hudgens sees the beauty inside because she’s hot and he’s hot too but he’s just under a curse so it’s not his fault. They find a connection but without singing and dancing house hold items, why bother? However, Neil Patrick and Peter Krause also star so that’s something.
Click here to take the 23 seconds to see the first footage from Beastly. The film opens in July 2010.

Variety is reporting that Peter Krause, best known for playing Nate on HBO’s “Six Feet Under”, has joined the cast of “Beastly” - CBS Film’s adaptation of the 2007 novel by Alex Flinn. A modern retelling of the “Beauty and the Beast” story, “Beastly” is currently filming in Montreal with Alex Pettyfer (“Stormbreaker”) playing the Manhattan teen who is cursed into ugliness by a young witch. Mary Kate Olsen is playing the witch with Krause set to play the Beast’s father who, as a punishment for being so damn hideous, banishes his son… to Brooklyn!! The horror! Vanessa Hudgens is playing Linda (aka “Beauty”) with Neil Patrick Harris as the blind tutor who braves the streets of Bensonhurst along with the young beast boy…
