See Michael Cera in Five YOUTH IN REVOLT Vignettes

Though Michael Cera is now 22 rather than the 16 or so he’s supposed to be in Youth in Revolt, all signs are that he and the movie are still going to be extremely funny.

For anyone unfamiliar with the book by C.D. Payne, a word of warning: It, and often the five short Comedy Central vignettes starring Michael Cera on the jump, can be very vulgar. It is, after all, about a 14-year-old who creates an alter ego – Francois Dillinger – with the simple mission of scoring with the love of his life (I’m assuming they made our hero, Nick Twisp, a couple of years older for the movie.)

However, if you can handle some crude jokes about masturbation and Zach Galifianakis’ fitness for parenting, hit the jump to see the five clips.

New Poster and Clip from YOUTH IN REVOLT Starring Michael Cera

If you’re a regular reader of Collider, you already know I thought Youth in Revolt was great.  I saw it at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and afterwards recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm.  I also posted a video interview with Michael Cera and director Miguel Arteta, and Matt recently posted an article on the awesome red band trailer.  What I’m trying to say is…it’s a film you should be excited for as Michael Cera finally shows he can play more than Michael Cera.  In fact, in Youth in Revolt, we get to see the evil Michael Cera as he creates a “supplementary persona” named Francois Dillinger to do the many bad things needed  to win his dream girl.  Trust me, you’ve never seen Michael Cera act like this.

So to help raise awareness, the Weinstein Company has released a new clip and poster.  I strongly suggest watching the red band trailer if you haven’t seen it…but the new clip is also nice.  Youth in Revolt hits theaters January 8th.

Red Band Trailer for YOUTH IN REVOLT Starring Michael Cera

Funny or Die has debuted the red band trailer for Miguel Arteta’s upcoming comedy Youth in Revolt starring Michael Cera.  I know it’s a red band trailer because there’s an R-rated joke every ten seconds or so.  They’re not bad but I don’t need this movie to be filthy to enjoy it.  I’m already pretty excited for the flick especially since I’ve heard highly positive things about it from those who have seen it (including Steve who thought it was great).  For those who don’t know, the movie is about Nick Twisp (Cera), an 18-year old high school student who goes on a quest to lose his virginity after his parent’s breakup. He does this by creating a “supplementary persona” named Francois Dillinger who can inspire the bad-ass behavior Nick needs to win his dream girl.

Check out the red band trailer after the jump along with a brief synopsis.  The film co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta, Jean Smart, Justin Long, and newcomer Portia Doubleday.  Youth in Revolt hits theaters on January 8, 2010.

The upcoming Michael Cera comedy Youth in Revolt has a new trailer and you should watch the original trailer to remain positive about the film.  It has a good premise: Nick Twisp (Cera) is an 18-year old high school student who goes on a quest to lose his virginity to Sheeni (Portia Doubleday) by developing a “supplementary personality” named Francois who encourages Nick to break out of his timid nice-guy routine and be a bad ass who stands up for himself.  Directed by Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl), the film co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, Jean Smart, and Ray Liotta.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer and try to ignore Mr. Movie Voice.  Youth in Revolt hits theaters on January 8, 2010.

Portia Doubleday Exclusive Video Interview YOUTH IN REVOLT – TIFF ’09

Last week, at the Toronto Film Festival, I did interviews for the Weinstein Company’s “Youth in Revolt”. If the title sounds familiar, that’s because the film is based on the novel by C.D. Payne and it’s the story of Nick Twisp –  a teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini – and he’s played by Michael Cera. While the film is still many months from getting released (Jan 15th, 2010), I really enjoyed this movie and want to start building some positive buzz…so I’m posting the interviews now. Also, there will probably be another press day closer to release, so these interviews would be very old. Anyway, after the jump you can watch my interview with Portia Doubleday. She plays Michael Cera’s love interest and she’s the reason Michael’s character does some pretty crazy stuff. During the interview she talks about getting the part, making the movie, and how she got into acting.

YOUTH IN REVOLT Moved to January 15, 2010

The Weinstein Company has just announced they’re moving “Youth in Revolt” to January 15, 2010 from their previously announced October release date. While moving a release is sometimes the sign of a troubled film or production, I saw a screening a few days ago at the Toronto Film Festival and have to say…it’s a great movie. The film is based on acclaimed novel by C.D. Payne and it’s the story of Nick Twisp –  a teen with a taste for the finer things in life like Sinatra and Fellini – and he’s played by Michael Cera. Actually, I posted a video blog about the movie yesterday where I sang the films praises. For more on the film and why it probably moved, hit the jump:

Once again, with the Toronto Film Festival set to begin in a few weeks, I’ve been provided with a ton of new images from the many films that are premiering at the festival. So rather than waste any time, after the jump take a look at new images “Jennifer’s Body”, “The Road” and “Youth in Revolt”. All three look like they could be really good.

Go a Little Crazy for Love with the Trailer for YOUTH IN REVOLT Starring Michael Cera

I’m not sure what to make of this one. It’s obvious that Michael Cera needs to branch out if he’s going to keep a steady career going, and he’s certainly doing that with “Youth in Revolt.” Cera plays a 16-year-old who desperately wants his “dream girl,” Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), to notice him. As any sane person would do, he creates a bad-ass alter-ego for himself who can get the job done and secure the girl. Check out the trailer after the jump.
