Seeing as it’s already February and that little furry rodent has predicted six more weeks of winter, we thought we’d take a look ahead to some March movie releases. Coincidentally, three big March movies have recently released new posters. First up is Disney’s March 9th release, John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch as a Civil War vet transplanted onto Mars, in an Andrew Stanton-directed picture. Next is the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed 21 Jump Street, a March 16th release starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two screw-up cops who infiltrate a local high school drug ring. Finally, we have a new poster from the Tarsem Singh project, Mirror Mirror, a Snow White adaptation featuring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts which opens March 30th. Lionsgate has released five new character posters for What to Expect When You’re Expecting, the ensemble comedy about “five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood.”  It’s a great way to see pregnant versions of Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, Brooklyn Decker, and Anna Kendrick next to sassy taglines like, “If I knew I’d have a rack like this, I would’ve gotten knocked up years ago.”  I kid, but I think there’s a chance this could be good.  Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock, Rodrigo Santoro, Ben Falcone, Joe Manganiello, and Rob Huebel also star. What to Expect When You’re Expecting opens on May 12, 2011.  The posters are after the break.

Although the release date for The Raven has been pushed back a month, that’s allowed Relativity to give us more looks at the property, like this new poster. It’s not quite as ink-soaked or blood-soaked as previous efforts and resembles more of a phoenix than a raven, but it’s stylish nonetheless. Here’s what you need to know about the posters we’ve rounded up today:

New Posters for WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, FRIENDS WITH KIDS, and GOD BLESS AMERICA

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 18th, 2012 at 1:47 pm

We’ve got a few new posters to debut today. First up is a fantastic new poster for the drama We Need to Talk About Kevin. The film stars Tilda Swinton as a mother dealing with her son’s unforgivable and violent act. This poster is gloriously chilling, as it evokes the horror films of the 60s and 70s (especially Rosemary’s Baby) to perfectly encapsulate the pure evil that is Kevin. The film is extraordinary and I highly suggest you check it out when it opens on January 27th.

We’ve also got posters for Jennifer Westfeldt’s dramedy Friends with Kids and the new Bobcat Goldthwait pic God Bless America. Friends with Kids features an all-star cast that includes Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Megan Fox, and opens on March 9th. Goldthwait’s dark comedy God Bless America opens May 11th and will be available VOD on April 6th. Hit the jump to see the posters.

It was a bumpy road getting there, but the 84th Academy Awards are on the schedule for February 26, 2012 with Billy Crystal at the helm.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the official poster for the awards with the tagline “Celebrate the movies in all of us.”  The movies the poster celebrates are Gone with the Wind (1939), Casablanca (1943), Giant (1956), The Sound of Music (1965), The Godfather (1972), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Forrest Gump (1994) and Gladiator (2000).  Curiously, Giant stands out as the movie that did not win Best Picture, though George Stevens won Best Director.  Hit the jump for the poster.

New Posters for CHRONICLE, COSMOPOLIS and RISE OF THE GUARDIANS

With less than two weeks left in 2011, it’s time to set our sights on movies that will be opening in 2012. Since the coming year is releasing a ton of big budget movies that will dominate media coverage, we thought we’d take a moment to highlight some of the lesser known fare that will be gracing the screens over the  next twelve months. We’ve got some new posters that will be a first look at these projects for some of you and a gentle reminder for others. First up is the superhero “found footage” thriller Chronicle by director Josh Trank (The Kill Point). Trank’s cinematic directorial debut features three teenagers who become imbued with superpowers and how those abilities darken their lives. Next, from David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method) comes Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson (Twilight). The adaptation of the Don DeLillo’s novel by the same name follows a young billionaire (Pattinson) as his limo traverses Manhattan in search of a haircut (not making this up). Finally, the animated Rise of the Guardians, which has the most charming poster in my opinion, is based off of the “Guardians of Childhood” book series by William Joyce and features childhood legends teaming up to take on the Boogeyman. Hit the jump to check out the posters.

New Posters from Will Ferrell’s CASA DE MI PADRE and PERFECT SENSE Starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green

With the recent pick up of Will Ferrell’s Casa De Mi Padre by Pantelion Films, we can expect to see an influx of marketing material before the film’s March 16 release. First up are two new posters from the Spanish-language comedy that presents Ferrell as a Mexican rancher who must save his family’s farm while defeating a notorious drug lord and winning the hand of the lovely Sonia. Casa De Mi Padre also stars Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) and Genesis Rodriguez (Man on a Ledge).

We also have the new one-sheet for director David Mackenzie’s Perfect Sense which stars Ewan McGregor (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace) and Eva Green (Casino Royale). The 2011 Sundance hit features McGregor and Green as two strangers who form a romantic connection in the face of a widespread epidemic that is wiping out all sensory perception. New Character Posters for JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: December 1st, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Previously, we brought you the first trailer for Brad Peyton’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and a behind-the-scenes featurette soon followed. They both showed off the beautiful scenery and creature effects of the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Fraser. Now we have some new character posters for you that showcase, not only the human stars, but other inhabitants of the island as well.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island features the return of Josh Hutcherson as Sean Anderson, who is accompanied by his new stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) as they head off in search of Sean’s missing grandfather (Michael Caine). To get to “Mysterious Island,” the duo will need the helicopter pilot, Gabato (Luis Guzman) and his daughter, Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens) to help guide them.  Hit the jump to check out the posters for each of these characters.

First Posters for Stop-Motion Film PARANORMAN and Werner Herzog’s Documentary INTO THE ABYSS

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 25th, 2011 at 6:52 pm

paranorman-into-the-abyss-posters-slice

We’ve got a couple of new posters for you this evening. First up is the poster premiere for ParaNorman. The stop-motion animated film comes from the animation studio LAIKA (Coraline) and centers on a boy whose ability to commune with the dead when his town comes under siege from zombies, ghosts, witches, moronic grown-ups, and a centuries-old curse. The poster is pretty fantastic, as it features the back of Norman’s head as he’s standing in a creepy forest. The voice cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, and Alex Borstein.

Additionally, and about as far from ParaNorman as you can get, is the first poster for Werner Herzog’s death row documentary Into the Abyss. The film documents Herzog’s interviews with two subjects, one who was executed for a triple homicide eight days after being filmed by Herzog, and another who is serving a life sentence. The poster is chilling and effective, as it posits the theme of finality. Hit the jump to check out the posters. ParaNorman opens August 17th, 2012, and Into the Abyss opens November 11th.

New Poster for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: October 24th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

The promotional material Sony is rolling out for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo continues to leave an impression.  This latest poster is less dark and striking, though—more perplexing.  The art superimposes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara‘s spike-haired head, and a plant.  I imagine the plant takes on more significance if you’ve read the story or seen the Swedish movies.  I missed the boat in both cases.  Now, two months before the December 21 release date, I’m ready to go in to David Fincher‘s adaptation cold.  For those in the same unfamiliar situation, the story is this: “A journalist-turned-detective (Craig) and his female associate (Mara) get tangled up in the underworld when he is hired to write the saga of a powerful family.”

Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer, and Joely Richardson also starClick here for all our Dragon Tattoo coverage, and hit the jump to see the poster.

Check Out These Fan-Created DRIVE Posters

We here at Collider have spent several thousand words telling you how much we love Drive, ever since that fateful Comic-Con screening in July.  As of this writing, Drive has earned a respectable $43 million worldwide.  That means there are a few billion people (give or take) who haven’t seen it.  Yet what the fandom lacks in breadth, it makes up for in depth.  Many of the devoted are creative folk, skilled in the ways of Photoshop.  The movie’s official Facebook page has done a great job rounding up the work of the best and brightest, and assembled a gallery of fan-created posters.  The results are pretty cool; check some of the best posters after the jump.
