With director Marin Scorsese‘s Hugo getting released tomorrow, Steve got the chance to sit down with producer Graham King over the weekend. That interview produced a Sunday article with updates on the Tomb Raider reboot. King has several promising projects in the works, though, so today we wanted to pass along what he had to say on two other films set up at his production company GK Films.
The first is the Queen movie, in which Sacha Baron Cohen will play Freddie Mercury. King suggests Cohen may even sing the classic Queen songs. Currently, there is no director attached and the script is still in development because King knows with a subject so iconic, “You’ve got to get it right.” King also talked about his adaptation of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys. That script is also in development, and while there will be some changes in the translation from stage to screen, the “DNA of the movie is going to be the same.” Hit the jump for the full interview.

It’s always a great time to be a Queen fan, but especially now. Last September, we reported that Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a film about the rock musician’s life. Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor have told Queen Online that screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) has delivered a first draft of the script, and that the team behind the flick is planning to shoot later this year with an eye towards a fall 2012 release. May and Taylor also say that they’re developing the Queen jukebox musical We Will Rock You into a movie.

Here’s a bit of exciting casting news: Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) has signed on to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic. The film will be written by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) and will focus on “the band’s formative years, leading up to Queen’s appearance at Live Aid in 1985.” According to Deadline, a rights package has been set for the band’s music, but it’s still unknown if Cohen will be providing his own vocals, or whether Mercury’s voice will be used.
This won’t be Cohen’s first foray into musicals given his memorable appearance in Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd. The comedian is, in my opinion, a perfect and excellent choice to play Mercury, and I look forward to seeing who signs on to direct the film. I would also love to see Cohen attempt to match Mercury’s unique and amazing vocals, but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he decides to lip synch his way through the film. In the meantime, you can next see Cohen starring in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret, which is set to open next December.

Over the past few months I’ve landed interviews with a few movie producers (Mike De Luca, Dan Lin) that have a lot of projects in development. Since the interviews cover so many movies, I’ve called the series “Seven Days With…” so I can break down each interview into smaller sections. While you may have thought the series was over…it was only because I’ve been trying to land my next interviewee and today begins “Seven Days With Producer Neal H. Moritz.”
If you look over Moritz’s IMDb profile, you’ll see he’s producing some huge projects like Doc Savage, Man-Witch, Hench, 21 Jump Street, Jack the Giant Killer, xXx, Battle: Los Angeles, Green Hornet, Flash Gordon, and so many other movies it would be impossible to list them all here. All you need to know is…over the next week, you can expect tons of updates on almost everything he’s involved with and what he thinks about 3D, how he got started as a producer, and so much more.
While I debated where to start “Seven Days With Neal Moritz”, I went with his very popular franchise and a another franchise that’s about to get a reboot: Fast and the Furious and Highlander! So if you’re curious about either series, hit the jump for info on Fast and the Furious 5 and 6 as well as what’s up with the reboot of Highlander:

“Highlander” is such a delightfully silly movie. Christopher Lambert’s Swiss accent, original songs by Queen, Clancy Brown decapitating folks as he makes his way through the story, and Sean Connery all make for a movie that is cheesy 80s action but through a camp-fantasy filter. You can’t really call it a “franchise” because that implies that anything after the first film was successful. The biggest success following “Highlander” was that the title of the sequel had the sub-title, “The Quickening”.
And now “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin wants to remake it. Hit the jump to read the full press release and why this remake could work but not because of Justin Lin.

I have a confession to make. Every time I have to vacuum, I sing I Want to Break Free. Every time. People don’t often get it. Me? I grew up on MTV and think in terms of music videos. For me, this is part of the game experience that has sadly been lacking. Enter SingStar. My review is after the jump:
