Quite the prestigious voice cast for an animated feature adaptation of the classic childrens book The Little Prince is being put together. Heat Vision reports that James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, and Paul Giamatti have all signed on to lend their voices to the pic. For those unaware, French author Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s story centers on a pilot who crash lands in the Sahara Desert and stumbles across a young boy who claims to be a prince that has fallen to Earth from his home on an asteroid. As the pilot works to repair his plane, the young boy tells him fantastical stories with heavy thematic resonance.

Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) is onboard to direct the project, with Onyx Films’ Aton Soumache and Dimitri Rassam producing. Additionally, The Wrap reports that Paramount is eyeing the prospect of distributing the animated pic and Mackenzie Foy (Twilight) is in talks to take on a voice role.

Working Title has released the first trailer for director Richard Curtis’ (Love Actually) new film About Time. The pic puts a time travel spin on the classic romantic comedy conceit, as Domnhall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from Harry Potter) plays a man who has inherited the ability to travel through time from his father (Bill Nighy). Naturally, Gleeson’s character uses his time travel prowess to woo the girl of his dreams (Rachel McAdams), but as with all time travel stories, the powers come with grave consequences. Curtis has a knack for making familiar stories interesting and endearing, and About Time looks to be no different. I like the earnestness with which the film is approached, and Gleeson seems poised to break out in a big way.

Hit the jump to watch the debut UK trailer. The film also stars Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie, Lydia Wilson, and Vanessa Kirby. About Time opens on September 6th in the UK and November 1st in the US. [Update: We've added the just-released US trailer (which gives away too much), poster, and images.]

Rachel McAdams (The Vow) is reportedly in talks to join the untitled picture from writer/director Cameron Crowe (We Bought a Zoo). Not much is known about the project at the moment, but it already stars Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man). McAdams is expected to play a former lover of Cooper's character in the rom-com, which may actually clue us in as to which re-worked former project this untitled picture is based on. Production on the film is expected to start this October. Hit the jump for more.

Deadline reports that McAdams is in talk to join the untitled picture. It may in fact be a heavily reworked version of a project formerly titled Deep Tiki. The previous version of the story followed a disgraced military weapons consultant who is stationed at a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launching of a spy satellite. Set against the tropical island landscape, he begins to discover both himself and the relationships he left behind through a combination of island lore and Cold War-era diplomacy. At one point it was said to involve visions of Hawaiian Gods and sacrifices to the volcano, so we’ll see how much it changes once it hits the screen.

Update: According to THR, the premise of the untitled film centers on "a defense contractor (Cooper) who is overseeing a weapons satellite launch from Hawaii teams up with (and falls for) an Air Force pilot (Stone) to scuttle the launch. Mystical island forces and a talking ...

A couple of new featurettes for writer/director Terrence Malick’s upcoming romantic drama To the Wonder have made their way online. The story involves a woman (Olga Kurylenko) traveling to Oklahoma to be with the man she loves (Ben Affleck), only to discover their relationship being tested by his childhood friend (Rachel McAdams) and a wayward priest (Javier Bardem). These featurettes are beyond fascinating for any cinephile, as they give us a peek inside the filmmaking process of elusive director Terrence Malick. The cast and crew talk about Malick’s atypical, improvisational filmmaking process, as many of them are never given a script and have to react to things Malick says while they’re filming a take.

Hit the jump to watch the featurettes, and click here to read Matt’s review. To the Wonder opens on April 12th.

Here’s the official synopsis for To the Wonder:
TO THE WONDER tells the story of Marina (Kurylenko) and Neil (Affleck), who meet in France and move to Oklahoma to start a life together, where problems soon arise. While Marina makes the acquaintance of a priest and fellow exile (Bardem), who is struggling with his vocation, Neil renews a relationship with a childhood sweetheart, Jane (McAdams). Bold and lyrical, the film is a moving, gorgeously shot exploration of love in its many forms. Written and directed by Terrence Malick.

New images from two upcoming April films that both star Olga Kurylenko have been released online. First up, a new image from director Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi pic Oblivion has been released. The story takes place on a dystopian Earth and stars Tom Cruise as a drone repairman who finds himself holding the future of mankind in his hands after discovering a crashed spaceship. This new image doesn’t feature Kurylenko, but it does give is a nice look at Cruise making his “intense running” face while flanked by what looks like a bubble helicopter. Oblivion opens on April 19th.

New images from writer/director Terrence Malick’s upcoming romantic drama To the Wonder have also been released. The film stars Kurylenko as a woman who travels to Oklahoma to be with the man she loves, only to discover that their relationship isn’t as strong as they previously thought. Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams also star and are featured in these images, but it’s my understanding that Kurylenko is the main focus of Malick’s dialogue-lite pic. To the Wonder opens on April 12th. Hit the jump to take a look at the images. [Update: More new images from To the Wonder have been released including a look at Javier Bardem.]

The first trailer has been released for Terrence Malick's To The Wonder. In the vague semblance of a plot, Olga Kurylenko plays a woman who travels to Oklahoma to be with the man she loves only to discover that their relationship isn't as strong as they previously thought. There's also a story involving a priest who grapples with his loneliness and has almost no narrative relation to the other plotline. I caught the picture at TIFF, and although To The Wonder is one of Malick's shortest films, it feels like his longest. His attempt to make an intimate film about intimacy caved in on itself, and most of the movie is just people whispering narration and twirling. The majesty presented in this trailer is almost completely misleading.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem. To The Wonder is set to open on April 12, 2013.

Trailer via The Film Stage.

We’ve recently seen a number of interesting photos from the set of two new films that director Terrence Malick has been shooting this year, but we now have word on when we might get to see the filmmaker’s follow-up to 2011’s The Tree of Life. Malick notoriously takes his time in the post-production process, and his most recent film To the Wonder (which was shot in 2010) finally premiered this past fall at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. The story revolves around a European woman (Olga Kurylenko) and her tumultuous relationship with an Oklahoman man (Ben Affleck), and following a mixed-to-negative response, Magnolia acquired the pic for distribution.

Now The Film Stage reports that Magnolia is eyeing an April 2013 release for the pic, following its February 22nd UK release. Despite the mixed reactions (read Matt’s review right here), I’m eager to see the latest work from the reclusive auteur.

There's a difference between "old-school" and "out-of-touch", and Brian De Palma's Passion disappointingly falls into the latter. In an attempt to dig into his old bag of tricks when making a sexual thriller, Passion starts out promising, but then slowly devolves into a series of gimmicks and decisions that render the movie increasingly cheesy until it becomes unintentionally hilarious. De Palma revisits woman's sexual duality, but with Passion, his attempt feels like a mash-up of previous ideas played out to disastrous results. The score is corny, the performances feel stilted, the cinematography is heavy-handed, and the twists become inane. Passion is a throwback that should simply be thrown away.

Christine (Rachel McAdams) and Isabelle (Noomi Rapace) work together for a marketing firm. The two are busy trying to figure out how to market a new phone, and Isabelle and her assistant Dani (Karoline Herfurth) come up with an ad that wows the higher-ups. Christine, who is always about five seconds away from lezzing out with Isabelle, steals credit for the idea, and ignites a professional rivalry with her co-worker that quickly turns personal. To further the corporate intrigue (which has all the tension of a training video), Christine is also covering the embezzlement of five million Euros by Isabelle's cheating boyfriend Dirk (Paul Anderson).

Passion begins with plenty of potential by returning to the themes of De Palma's Sisters, Dressed to Kill, Body Double, and Femme Fatale, specifically with regards to dual identities as it relates to sexuality. From the beginning, Christine ...

If I were making a parody of a Terrence Malick movie, I'd make his new film, To The Wonder. It takes all of his trademarks—softly spoken narration, gorgeous cinematography, orchestral score, poetic ruminations—and forgets why they worked in his other pictures. To The Wonder reveals that Malick's previous movies succeed because they're intimate stories painted on a larger canvas. By comparison, To The Wonder is an intimate story about intimacy, so it collapses in on itself as characters endlessly muse on the nature of love without the audience ever sharing that feeling, or any other emotion for that matter. It is a loveless movie about love where all of Malick's trademarks feel like tricks.

Neil* (Ben Affleck) and Marina (Olga Kurylenko) fall in and out of love. She endlessly contemplates the nature of her love and her relationship. During one of their off periods, Neil takes up with his childhood friend, Jane (Rachel McAdams). We see the world through her eyes for a bit, then her relationship with Neil falls apart, and we never see her again. There are also sporadic appearances by Father Quintana (Javier Bardem), a priest who rarely feels joy, but experiences intimacy by caring for the enfeebled in his community. His presence in the larger story briefly crosses over with Marina (who is the film's main voice), when she tries to find God's love, which is forbidden from her since she can't marry Affleck due to having been abandoned but never divorced by her first husband.

The elusive yet brilliant filmmaker Terrence Malick has been a busy man this year, working on two brand new features with all-star casts that include people like Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Cate Blanchett. However, while I was thrilled to hear that Malick is becoming so prolific as of late, we still hadn’t heard anything about the director’s “mysterious” romantic drama To the Wonder, which he shot in 2010. We knew that the film starred Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko and Javier Bardem, but next to nothing was known about the film’s plot.

Good news was delivered late last month when it was announced that To the Wonder would be screening this fall at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, confirming that Malick has (hopefully) completed his lengthy post-production. The press notes for the Venice Film Festival, which is currently running, provide an incredibly detailed and eye-opening look at the plot for To the Wonder, along with some comments about the film from star Ben Affleck. Hit the jump to take a look.

Though some may be wary about spoilers in such a lengthy synopsis, keep in mind that a similar plot description surfaced for The Tree of Life and I don't think many felt "spoiled" when that film finally hit theaters; Malick’s films aren’t exactly the type that can be “spoiled” so I think spoilerphobes will be safe. This detailed synopsis apparently appears in the press notes at the Venice Film Festival, and we have the transcribed portion here courtesy of ...

If you've got a recognizable name like the folks pictured above, you'd think that once you sign onto a project, you can expect to see your face on the big screen. That's not the case when Terrence Malick is the director. Although Rachel Weisz, Barry Pepper, Amanda Peet and Michael Sheen all filmed scenes for the Badlands director's film, To the Wonder, all of them were left on the cutting room floor. The film screens this coming Sunday at the Venice Film Festival before moving on to TIFF next week. Hit the jump for why the actors' scenes were cut and who is left in the finished film.

Deadline reports that Weisz, Pepper, Peet and Sheen all occupied small roles in minor parts of the film's main storyline. Malick is known for shooting excessive footage which he later excises to trim down to his desired final cut. In the words of one of the film's insiders:
“It’s just the way Terry works; it’s not a reflection on anything other than the story.”
The actors are clearly aware of this risk as well, as Weisz was informed that her part would likely be cut, but was happy just to have the experience of working with Malick.

To the Wonder stars Ben Affleck as a player who seduces a European woman (Olga Kurylenko) while in Paris, and who he marries when he returns with her to Oklahoma. As their relationship sours, he takes comfort in a childhood friend (Rachel McAdams) and a religious exile (Javier Bardem).

The first trailer for Brian De Palma's erotic thriller Passion has gone online. The film is a remake of Alain Corneau's Love Crime, and centers on the relationship between a woman (Rachel McAdams) and her innocent, lovely and easily exploited protégé (Noomi Rapace). The film looks like what you'd expect from De Palma in this genre. There's creepy psychosexual imagery and serious tension between the female leads. The film will be running the festival circuit through Venice, Toronto, and New York, and it's one of my must-see movies at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. This trailer only makes me more excited to see this flick, and also play catch-up on De Palma's filmography, in particular Femme Fatale and Dressed to Kill.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Here's the synopsis for Passion:
An erotic thriller in the tradition of Dressed To Kill and Basic Instinct, Brian de Palma’s Passion tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé, Isabelle, is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out.

There are so many versions of Sherlock Holmes that having “the Robert Downey Jr. one” in the mix only adds a different flavor to the character. His version is more of an action hero than problem solver (though there’s much of that too), and the latest adventure Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - directed by Guy Richie and co-starring Jude Law as Dr. Watson - is entertaining enough, and it ends well. But it feels a little routine. If the first film was clever and had more of a sense of discovery, this is just more of the same. Our review of the Blu-ray follows after the jump.

With this film we finally get to Moriarty – here played by Jared Harris – and it seems that The Dark Knight has changed how “origin” stories deal with their big bad: they save it for the sequel. The film starts by showing Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) trying to deliver a bomb to someone, only to be foiled by Sherlock. It turns out she’s working for Moriarty, who Holmes knows is an evil mastermind. Dr. Watson is about to married, and Sherlock attends the bachelor party with his brother Mycroft (Stephen Fry) - who is just as strange as Sherlock, though he works for the government. At the party Sherlock meets Madam Simza Heron (Noomi Rapace), who has a brother working for Moriarty. She becomes something of an ally, and then the game is afoot, but only after Watson’s wedding.

The film has ...

We’ve got a few set photos to share this afternoon. Briefly:

Taylor Lautner and Patrick Schwarzenegger were spotted on the set of Adam Sandler’s first-ever sequel, Grown Ups 2. The young duo were seen doing regular “cool guy” stuff like fiddling with a football, wearing tight jeans, and sporting super neato sunglasses. The two play members of a fraternity, so the bro-ing out may or may not be in keeping with their characters.
Rachel McAdams was seen filming a labor scene for director Richard Curtis’ (Love Actually) time travel romantic comedy About Time.
A pregnant Reese Witherspoon looks eerily like her real-life counterpart in set photos from Devil’s Knot. The film also stars Colin Firth and follows the true story of the West Memphis 3 case, in which three teenagers were wrongfully charged with murdering three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in the 1990s.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.

When he first street-danced his way to stardom in Step Up, Channing Tatum read as little more than sentient six-pack, vacantly mumbling his way through that film and the obligatory star vehicles that followed. Then, a few flicks ago, something unexpected happened: his empty stare started giving way to a low-key charisma. The pretty boy who walked out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue showed signs of developing into a vulnerable, relatable leading man. Due in no small part to the derision he was (and still is) subjected to, he’s also a believable underdog. It’s one of the reasons The Vow works better than most mainstream romances…some of the time, anyway. Hit the jump for our review of The Vow on Blu-ray.

We open on a magical winter’s eve, as a young bohemian couple exit a movie theatre. Leo (Tatum) owns an independent recording studio, Paige (Rachel McAdams) is an up-and-coming sculptor and they’re clearly head over heels for one another. Trying to get pregnant, in fact. But, as the saying goes, if you want to hear an out-of-control 18-wheeler laugh, tell it your plans.

A brutal accident gives way to sweet, fleeting glimpses of how their relationship came to be, as Tatum narrates philosophic about how we’re all just a collection of our most important moments. But when Paige opens her eyes, she’s a few moments short. The last thing she recalls is being in law school, engaged to a more successful man (non-CGI Scott Speedman) and still joined at the ...

With the Cannes Film Festival officially kicking off today, there is plenty of big, bold movie marketing to be found. For those of you who couldn't make it to France (including me), we thought we'd bring you some of the sights. Our international correspondent Magdalena (who you can follow on twitter) has been busy snapping some shots of promotional material at the festival. We already brought you the first iteration here, but now we have some more goodies to check out. They include shots of Spring Breakers, Dracula 3D, Brian De Palma's Passion and Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler. Hit the jump to check them out.

First up is the crowd-pleaser, Spring Breakers. If you haven't seen our numerous posts of images of Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and James Franco from the set, this poster should give you a general idea of what you can expect from director Harmony Korine's latest project (I particularly like the unrelated PMS van in the foreground:

Next we have De Palma's Passion, starring Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams. We previously posted the first image from the film along with a disturbing batch of follow-up images. Enjoy the poster for Passion below the synopsis:

We shared the first image from director Brian De Palma’s erotic thriller Passion last week, and it was obvious from the “Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace kiss” photo that De Palma had something decidedly different up his sleeve. Now a few new images and the first poster from the film have gone online, and the “erotic thriller” moniker definitely seems appropriate. The story centers on the relationship between a woman and her “innocent, lovely and easily exploited” protégé. It also apparently involves McAdams wearing a creepy as hell mask and wielding a knife.

Hit the jump to check out the images. Passion will be shopped at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off this week.

Here’s the synopsis for Passion:
An erotic thriller in the tradition of “Dressed To Kill” and “Basic Instinct”, Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle ...
