FilmDistrict has released a batch of new high-resolution images from director Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day) White House actioner Olympus Has Fallen. The film stars Gerard Butler as a disgraced Secret Service agent called back to duty when terrorists take over the White House and capture the President (Aaron Eckhart). The pic is one of two similarly-plotted action films that take place in and around the White House that will hit theaters this year, with the other being Roland Emmerich’s White House Down. Thus far, this film looks like it has a slightly larger scope than Down, but we’ve yet to see a full trailer for the latter.

One of the many films making its premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival is writer/director Michael Polish’s adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel Big Sur. Though his work has long been described as unfilmable, there has been a bit of a boom in Kerouac feature films in the past year or so, and Big Sur marks a very faithful adaptation of one of the author’s darkest works. The film stars Jean-Marc Barr as Kerouac and chronicle’s the author’s struggle with alcoholism and depression in the early 1960s following the publication of On the Road.
This week in Park City, I had the chance to speak with Josh Lucas and Radha Mitchell, who play Neal and Carolyn Cassady in the film. The actors talked about the pressure of tackling such a beloved property, vocalizing Kerouac’s distinct dialogue rhythms, portraying the complexities of the Neal/Jack relationship, and more. From executive producer/writer Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter and the Twilight Saga films) and based on the Dutch series Penoza, the upcoming ABC drama Red Widow (premiering on March 3rd), tells the story of Marta Walraven (Radha Mitchell), a stay-at-home mom who is devoted to her three children and her husband (Anson Mount). But, as the layers peel back, her husband’s criminal dealings and the fact that her father is a Russian gangster will start to unravel secrets and force Marta to decide just how far she’s willing to go to protect her family.
While at the ABC portion of the TCA Press Tour, show star Radha Mitchell talked about what kind of a woman Marta is, how this is her dream character to play, what attracted her to the role, trying to balance two realities, why she relates to her character, what led her to television, and the shock of adjusting to the pace of a TV schedule. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

As far as horror survival game adaptations go, it’s easy to see that Resident Evil has proven more successful than Silent Hill; that won’t stop a sequel to the 2006 horror thriller from coming out later this month. Director Michael J. Bassett’s Silent Hill: Revelation 3D follows nearly-18-year-old Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) as they attempt to escape the living nightmares that plague them. When her father disappears (and for Bean, disappearing > dead), Heather becomes trapped in a demonic world and learns she’s not who she thinks she is.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell and Kit Harington, and opens October 26th. Hit the jump to see the posters.

The first theatrical trailer for Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has been released. The film is a sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, and centers on a daughter and father who are on the run from dangerous forces that remain unknown to the young girl. When her father goes missing, the young girl (Adelaide Clemens) must set out to discover what happened. I’m not familiar with the video game series or the first film, but Game of Thrones fans might get a kick out of seeing Sean Bean and a clean-shaven Kit Harington. The pic also looks to have some interesting creature design, and it’s obvious from the footage that the 3D will be put to heavy use.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed it you can watch the first clip from the film right here. The pic also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcolm McDowell, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, and Martin Donovan. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D opens on October 26th, 2012.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Val Kilmer, Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Kate Maberly (Finding Neverland) have joined the cast of D.J. Caruso’s indie The Goats. Based on the young adult novel by Brock Cole, the story centers on two kids who are stranded on Goat Island following a summer camp prank. Rather than return to camp, the duo set out on their own adventure and run away. Chandler Canterbury (Knowing) and Annalise Basso (Bedtime Stories) are set as the two young leads. Variety reports that Kilmer and Mitchell will play parents, with Maberly taking on the role of a camp counselor. Production on Caruso’s passion project began today in Georgia. Five years ago, the original adaptation of the atmospheric, survival-horror videogame Silent Hill hit theaters with less than blockbusting results. However, since people tend to love multiple sequels to these games-turned-movies (see the Resident Evil series), it’s no surprise that Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has already started filming. Alongside up-and-comers Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington, the sequel will see the return of Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger, all of whom played characters who managed to survive to the end of Silent Hill. Here’s the synopsis:

Every once in a while, you’ll hear a disturbing news account of some mild mannered office employee who suddenly opened fire on his coworkers, a quiet student who abruptly turned his classmates into target practice or a nice father who shockingly hacked his family to pieces. The Crazies preys on our fears of these random, unexpected acts of violence, most effectively in its opening sequence, in which a small town father shows up at a local baseball game presumably loaded and carrying a loaded weapon. More after the jump:

Breck Eisner’s The Crazies might make you believe something this hellacious isn’t just a work of far-flung fiction, but a possible reality. For a Hollywood horror film, that is quite a feat when the weird seems to gush from the wounds of multi-million dollar projects that often strive for shock over true substance or coherency. Eisner, working off of George A. Romero’s 1973 original The Crazies, uses a believable story with the required scares and thrills without succumbing to sheer absurdity or grotesque violence. By using focused and tight camerawork, a narrative that is easy to follow, and quality acting, Eisner delivers a worthy entry in the horror genre that is a pleasure from start to finish, even for non-genre fans.

A sizzle reel for Breck Eisner’s upcoming horror film The Crazies has just gone up online and it’s pretty damn cool. For those who don’t know, a sizzle reel is a combination of a featurette with a trailer. You don’t see any behind-the-scenes stuff, but you have the actors talking about the film, while some really intense action is happening on screen. I’m hearing good things about the movie, which is terrific since 90% of mainstream horror movies seem to phone in it these days.
Hit the jump to check out the sizzle reel along with the official synopsis. Also, you can click here to read an interview with Danielle Panabaker, click here to read an interview with Breck Eisner, and click here to read my set report from last year.
The Crazies hits theaters tomorrow. Look for Bill Graham’s review later tonight.
