The first trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has gone online. While I was underwhelmed by the Entertainment Tonight sneak peek, this full trailer is actually kind of fantastic (actual trailer editors > ET editors). It’s got some stellar action, a cool story, and a chill-inducing shot featuring the White House. The story finds the Joes in deep, as the entirety of the G.I. Joe team has been killed save for a few remaining survivors. Director Jon Chu has staged some nice action sequences here, and the trailer is elevated by a nifty cut of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis. G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th, 2012.

Paramount has settled on a release date for their sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. It looks like the action sequel will bow on August 10th, 2012. Originally, Stephen Sommers was set to return for the sequel, but bowed out in January. Paramount cast a wide net to find the right person to take over the project, and they finally settled on Jon Chu (the smashing commercial success of his most recent film for Paramount, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, probably had nothing to do with that). Chu directs from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Just yesterday Rachel Nichols, who portrayed Scarlett in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, confirmed via Twitter that only a handful of characters from the first film will return for the sequel. Set to return are Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Duke). So Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller and Dennis Quaid shall not be back. Hit the jump for more.

Now that Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) has officially landed the directing gig on G.I. Joe 2, speculation now turns to the cast. Rachel Nichols, who portrayed Scarlett in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, recently sent out a tweet [via /Film] confirming that only a handful of the original film’s cast will return for the sequel. And by a handful I mean Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Duke). Nichols then followed the tweet up with this statement:
“… Thank you. After the GI JOE news I had Heavy Boots, but I’m smiling now!”
This seems to suggest that Paramount is sticking with the small handful of characters who actually worked in the original film – one of whom has plastic lips that don’t move – and vetoing the likes of Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid, and even Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was clearly set up as the villain Cobra Commander in a potential sequel. This also suggests that Paramount is keeping the budget relatively smaller than the Cobra’s $175 million price tag. Of course none of this has been confirmed by the studio, so file it under rumor for now. G.I. Joe 2 is being written by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Update: Paramount has settled on a August 10th, 2012 release date for the G.I. Joe sequel. More info here.

While I have serious issues with NBC’s “Heroes”, I still watch every week. As I have said repeatedly on Collider, if you put people with super powers on TV, I’ll tune in. I know I have a problem.
Anyway, each season I always think this will be the year “Heroes” gets it right. They’ll finally write the show with some intelligence and come up with an interesting storyline. But then the show premieres, and I get mad that I still watch. So will this be the year “Heroes” turns it around? Probably not. But they have added Robert Knepper and Ray Park, so they’ve at least done something right. Anyhow, NBC has just released the synopsis for the two hour premiere airing September 21st, so if you want to know what the premiere is about, click the jump. When NBC releases clips I’ll post them.

When you think of “G.I. Joe”, many people immediately think Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. After all, they’re two of the coolest characters in the “Joe” universe and they have a long history. So when I went to the set of “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” back in May of 2008, one of the things I wanted to know was how cool the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow fight would be. Thankfully, Ray Park (Snake Eyes) was more than happy to go into detail explaining how hard he trained for the park and how awesome the fights were going to be. And now that I’ve seen the film, I can tell you he wasn’t exaggerating, as “G.I. Joe” is a huge action movie that’s filled with great stuff.
Anyway, after the jump you can read the interview I participated in with Ray Park on set. He talks about training, how the fights in “G.I. Joe” differ from his stuff in “Star Wars: Episode One” (he was Darth Maul), and a lot more. Take a look:

With “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” set for release in a little over a week, Paramount has release four clips from the Stephen Sommers movie and they’re after the jump. As I said when I wrote my mini-review, all you need to know is “G.I. Joe” is the cartoon come to life. It’s a pure candy coated popcorn film and if you’re going to the movie theater to have a good time, you’re going to have a lot of fun watching “G.I. Joe”. Just remember, the movie is aimed at kids and it’s designed to sell toys. Watch the clips. You’ll see what I mean.

If you missed the “Heroes” presentation at Comic-Con where they premiered footage from the next volume entitled “Redemption”, there is no need to be upset. That’s because NBC has released the extended trailer and I’ve posted it after the jump. Take a look:

“G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” is not the train wreck you’re expecting.
In fact, some of the film is quite good. While many of you won’t believe me till you see it with your own eyes on August 7th, last night I got into a research screening of director Stephen Sommers “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” at the Bridge Theater in Los Angeles and came away liking what I saw.
My one sentence: It’s the cartoon come to life.
You want more, it’s after the jump:

Paramount has released nine new images from “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and they’re after the jump. While most of the online community has given up hope that “G.I. Joe” could be enjoyable, I’ll admit to wanting to check it out for myself. Also, the film is aimed at kids, so why thirty year old men need to have their panties in a bunch about this film is beyond me. I watched the cartoon when I was a kid. But I don’t need to have “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” shake heaven and Earth for me to be happy. I’m just looking for a fun popcorn film. If I get that, great. Finally, I went to the set of “Joe” last year and left feeling that it could be a lot of fun. We’ll see in a few weeks. Check out the images after the jump.

Along with our exclusive poster, MovieWeb, LatinoReview, Cinematical, and IGN all received exclusive character posters for “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. All these posters are nice, but ours is the best because it has breasts. Even the character poster for Snake Eyes (which I have not included because IGN has yet to post it and continues to make the rest of us wonder why they even get exclusives in the first place) isn’t better than Baroness (Sienna Miller) because Snake Eyes can’t ninja himself up some knockers.
Check out smaller versions of the character posters below for Duke (Channing Tatum), Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee), and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) after the jump and click on them for bigness. “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” hits theatres on August 7th.
UPDATE: IGN posted their poster for Snake Eyes (Ray Park). Check it out with the others after the jump.
