I’m writing to you this week in full “World Series Mode.” While there are plenty of things going on around the Midwest this time of year (homemade haunted houses are always a welcomed annual treat), a majority of my focus is on trying to will my beloved Cardinals to Fall Classic glory. Combine that with the fact that Batman: Arkham City is consistently calling my name and it’s a wonder that I’m even writing this right now. Hold on, what’s that, Arkham City? Okay, okay…I’ll be there in a second…
…In this week’s installment, you’ll find talk of Transformers 4 and Transformers 5 shooting back-to-back with Jason Statham potentially starring, a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises being attached to Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘s IMAX release, interviews with director Paul W.S. Anderson and the cast of The Three Musketeers, David Fincher and Rooney Mara talking about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and William Monahan discussing projects including London Boulevard, The Departed sequel, Sin City 2 and more. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

The first five minutes of Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers is currently available for your home viewing pleasure. As expected it’s pretty heavy on the action. We’re introduced to the main characters in some cheeky moments complete with freeze-frame name shots. In case you missed them, be sure to check out Steve’s interviews with Milla Jovovich, Luke Evans, Matthew Macfadyen and Ray Stevenson, Orlando Bloom, and Logan Lerman and Gabriella Wilde.
Hit the jump to watch the opening sequence. The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz. The Three Musketeers opens in 3D on October 21st.

With director Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers opening October 21, Summit Entertainment held a big press junket in London and I got the chance to head across the pond to interview the cast. Based on Alexandre Dumas’ classic story, The Three Musketeers stars Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Matthew Macfayden and Mads Mikkelsen. In the reboot, “the hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (MacFadyen, Evans and Stevenson). They must stop the evil Richlieu (Waltz) and face off with Buckingham (Bloom) and the treacherous Milady (Jovovich).” And unlike many films that have been post converted for a 3D release, the Musketeers was shot in 3D and it looks great. For more on the film, here’s eight clips.
During my interview with the Musketeers, we talked about the amazing real world locations they used in Musketeers, how did they get involved in the project, karaoke, and I asked them about future projects like The Hobbit, G.I. Joe 2 and Anna Karenina. Hit the jump to watch.

With director Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers opening October 21, Summit Entertainment has provided us with eight clips from the reboot of Alexandre Dumas’ classic story. Summit has sent over eight new character posters and a making-of featurette from director Paul W.S. Anderson’s take on The Three Musketeers. Starring Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Matthew Macfayden and Mads Mikkelsen, the film looks pretty much exactly how you’d expect a Paul W.S. Anderson Musketeers movie to look. I’m no Musketeers enthusiast, so I’m really not offended by Anderson’s updating of the material. That doesn’t mean I want to see it either, though.
Check out the new hero/villain character posters and the “Making of a Musketeer” featurette after the jump. The Three Musketeers hits 3D theaters on October 21st.

With G.I. Joe 2 getting released next summer – specifically on August 10, 2012 – and filming set to begin next month, it was only a matter of time before Paramount announced who was playing the villain. Well, today’s the day, as THR says Ray Stevenson (Thor, Punisher: War Zone, Rome) has signed on to play the villain Firefly in director Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes (no word if that’s the official title). Stevenson joins Channing Tatum (Duke), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jay), Elodie Yung, RZA (Blind Master), D.J. Cotrona (Flint) and Ray Park (Snake Eyes). More info after the break.

Transformers 3: Blowin’ Up Chicago arrives on screens tomorrow so the taste for trashy blockbusters is in the air. The good news is that there are more ridiculous action movies on the way after Michael Bay’s latest ode to slow motion explosions. Today a fresh new trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s glossy The Three Musketeers update has arrived online in all its overblown glory. It’s not often that you get to see a trailer that proudly claims to be based on “the classic novel from Alexandre Dumas” only to seconds later show flying ships suspended by hot air balloons that I don’t recall being in the book. Fan of the series or not, this is one of those trailers that you kind of have to see in a “you’re not going to believe this shit” kind of way.
Hit jump to check out the trailer. The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz. The Three Musketeers opens October 14th.

In the 1970s, the city of Cleveland played host to a turf war between the Italian mafia and an Irish crime syndicate headed by Danny Greene. In Kill the Irishman, Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone) plays the titular Celtic warrior in a biopic based on true events. Writer/director Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher) allows Stevenson to tread ambiguous moral ground in his portrayal of Greene, but the movie tends to lean towards establishing Greene as a folk hero instead of a murderous criminal. Billy Bob Thornton hasn’t directed a feature film since 2001’s Daddy and Them. Well, last November Thornton broke the news to us that he was once again stepping back into the director’s chair on a film he co-wrote with his writing partner Tom Epperson called Jayne Mansfield’s Car. Now it looks like Thornton is ready to start shooting on the project, as he’s secured funding and has filled out his cast with John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick, Ray Stevenson (Thor) and John Patrick Amedori (The Butterfly Effect) joining previously announced Robert Duvall.
Deadline reports that AR Films is funding the project, which is set to start shooting on June 22nd in Georgia. The story revolves around a guy whose wife leaves him for an Englishman and moves away to England. 20 or 30 years later, in 1969, the wife dies but wishes to be returned to Alabama where she grew up, so the English family meets—and clashes with—the original family that she abandoned. While Thornton’s All the Pretty Horses left much to be desired, Sling Blade was a bit of a masterwork. Hopefully he can recapture that magic with this southern tale.

I shouldn’t complain about writing about posters. I have 44 of them in my office (the majority are mini posters, but they still count, dammit!) so I get the appeal. Plus, they can be really fun to mock! For instance, Summit has released the first poster for Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers and it makes me feel so bad for Mads Mikkelsen. I can’t decide what’s worse: that he’s the tiniest main character on the poster or that Matthew Macfayden is shoving his crotch in Mikkelsen’s face. The expression on Mikkelsen’s face suggests the latter.
There’s also a NSFW US poster for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I’m sure that Rooney Mara knew that she would have to bare her breasts for the movie, but I wonder if she knew they would also be part of the marketing campaign. I wonder if the folks in Sony’s advertising department thought to themselves, “I have seen Rooney Mara’s pierced nipples and they are going to boost ticket sales.” Hit the jump to check out the posters. The Three Musketeers opens in 3D on October 14th. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21st.

Marvel’s Thor is the toughest of the lead Avengers to bring to the big screen. He’s a cross between a space alien and a Norse god, he wields a hammer named Mjolnir instead of standard superhero weapons like guns or swords, and he wears a cape. The character could fall so easily into camp territory, but director Kenneth Branagh takes the bold approach of playing the character completely straight but still keeps the movie fun and light. This balance of broad comedy and bombastic action mixed with straight-faced drama comes from the perfect combination of lead actors Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. While the film does have some problems in developing the supporting characters, its biggest sin is in the 3D post-conversion which turns the bright shining lights of Asgard into a dim, blurry mess. But if you catch the film in 2D, Thor is going to be some of the most fun you have in a theater this year.

The stars of Thor were out at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood to celebrate this week’s opening of the latest Marvel superhero movie. The street was shut down and the Asgard throne even made an appearance, while the cast arrived in cars with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on the side, and happily greeted fans and signed autographs.
Joining cast members Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Renee Russo, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, James Dallas and Tadanobu Asano were director Kenneth Branagh, screenwriter Zack Stentz, story writer J. Michael Straczynski, Disney Chairman Bob Iger and, of course, Stan Lee. Other celebs who made appearances on the red carpet included Colin Farrell, Liam Hemsworth, Fright Night co-stars Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Gillian Jacobs from NBC’s Community, Jennifer Grey, Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams, The Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli, Kyle XY star Matt Dallas and director Edgar Wright, among others. Check out all of the exclusive photos after the jump.

In addition to the new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Summit has also sent over some new images from Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Yes, the trailer makes the film look abysmal, but look! Pretty costumes!
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz. The Three Musketeers opens October 14th.

With Thor finally arriving in America next weekend (it’s already playing around the world), Paramount/Marvel have released the EPK and included are four clips and ten minutes of behind the scenes footage. While the clips have all been previously released, this is the first time we have all four in one place. In addition, if you’re curious what it’s really like on a movie set, the behind the scenes footage is great to watch. However, if you are trying to avoid spoilers, you might want to check it out after you’ve seen the movie.
As I said when I posted my review/video blog on Thor, I thought the movie was great. Also, while Thor is not an easy transition from comic books to movie screens, director Kenneth Branagh made it work and I cannot wait to see everyone together in The Avengers next summer. Hit the jump to watch the clips and look for new interviews next week. Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg and Colm Feore.

Fans of big dopey 3D action movies can prepare to get giddy, because new images have been released for Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and The Three Musketeers, offering up tantalizing stills of their drug of choice. The films of course come from two of Hollywood’s living legends of dumb entertainment: directors Michael Bay (Bad Boys II) and Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat). It’s unlikely that either of these movies will require any mental effort from their audiences, but it’s also very likely those audiences will be distracted by lots of flashing lights and pretty colors.
Hit the jump to thrill at the site of big CGI robots smashing things and pretty Hollywood actors fightin’ n’ posin’ in expensive period costumes. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Tyrese Gibson, Frances McDormand, Ken Jeong, Alan Tudyk, John Turturro, and a bunch of robots. The film opens in 3D on July 1st. The Three Musketeers stars Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Logan Lerman, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz and will be released in 3D on October 14th
