Red-Band Trailer for SHAME

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 29th, 2011 at 2:00 pm

Fox Searchlight has debuted an online-only red-band trailer for Steve McQueen‘s Shame.  Like the previous trailers, Fox Searchlight has refused to manufacture a controversy based on the NC-17 rating or pretend there’s a titillating aspect to McQueen’s movie.  I really dig this new trailer, and the way it’s cut together does a subtle job of conveying the sexual addiction of the film’s protagonist, Brandon (Michael Fassbender).  The trailer is interspersed with brief clips from Brandon’s sexual encounters, but I couldn’t spot any nudity (although you can probably find some if you go through frame-by-frame).

Hit the jump for the trailer.  The film also stars Carey Mulligan and James Badge Dale.  Shame opens in limited release this Friday.

Red-Band Trailer for AMERICAN REUNION [Updated with Hi-Res Images]

The red-band trailer for American Reunion has gone online.  It serves as a helpful reminder that Jim (Jason Biggs) should never masturbate ever again.  He’s just not very good at it.  However, it does lead to a good gag involving a sock.  There’s not much else to say about the trailer since there’s no footage beyond the scene I mentioned.  It’s really more of an announcement that people in their 30s are making a teenage sex comedy.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and Shannon Elizabeth. American Reunion opens April 6, 2012. [Update: We've added hi-res versions of the images we ran yesterday.]

Red-Band Trailer for THE THING

I want to warm up to the prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing but there are still a few hurdles it has yet to clear.  As you’ll see in this new red-band trailer, the reliance on CGI effects is somewhat distracting and in some ways diminishes the brutality of the original when hands broke apart and you could feel every bone snap.  There’s also the issue of the plot.  I’ve been told that this is not a remake but part of one giant movie since where it ends is exactly where the 1982 film of the same name picks up.  However, judging by the trailers, it still has the same overarching plot: alien infects, takes the form of scientists, kills everyone off one-by-one and the audience wonders who’s human and who’s about to explode into phantasmagoria.  Thankfully, I’ve heard from one person who’s seen and they liked it.  Hopefully I’ll feel the same way.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton.  The Thing opens October 14th.

Red-Band Trailer for David Gordon Green’s THE SITTER Starring Jonah Hill

The red-band trailer for David Gordon Green’s The Sitter has gone online.  As star Jonah Hill says in the intro to the trailer, “It’s the filthiest R-rated babysitter movie ever made,” and then he tells some rude children to “Try a little ‘Shut-the-Fuck-Up’ next time.”  As for the trailer itself, it’s got a bunch of great jokes, and I really hope I like it more than Green’s last film, Your Highness.  The guy has a talent with foul-mouthed comedy (he’s directed the majority of Eastbound and Down episodes) but with Your Highness and to a lesser extent Pineapple Express, the execution couldn’t live up to the concept.  But children who act like adult ass-holes are always good for laugh and so is Hill.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  The Sitter opens December 9th.

New Red-Band Trailer for THE CHANGE-UP

I know the premise of The Change-Up is a little corny but so are all body-switching comedies.  What sets this comedy apart isn’t even its R-rating but simply because you have two great leads in Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.  A new trailer has gone online and it has some raunchy humor but the best jokes are simply from Bateman and Reynolds playing off each other and how they react to their outlandish circumstances.  I really dug what I saw when I went to the set and I’ve heard that the finished film is painfully funny.

Hit the jump to check out the new red-band trailer.  The film also stars Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde, and Alan Arkin.  The Change-Up opens August 5th.

Mildly Insane Red Band Trailer for THE LAST CIRCUS

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 17th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

the-last-circus-image-slice

A red band trailer for director Alex de la Iglesia’s (The Oxford Murders) The Last Circus has landed online and it is borderline insane. The film begins in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and centers on a circus clown who joins a militia and begins dispatching people with max prejudice. From there, the pic moves ahead to 1973 and begins following a “twisted love triangle” involving both Sad Clown and Happy Clown. There really isn’t a lot else to be said about the cut except that it succeeds in peaking my interest in the film (a fact that makes me really question the type of things I’m interested in).

Unless you’re already afraid of clowns (in which case, I apologize for the dual-wielding one pictured above), I suggest you watch the restricted trailer after the jump. Magnolia is releasing The Last Circus, starring Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre, and Carolina Bang, to select theaters on August 12th.

A new red band trailer for director Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) comedy 30 Minutes or Less is now available online and it rings of nostalgia for the time “you and I worshiped the devil for like two weeks.” Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, and Michael Pena, the film centers on a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg) who is kidnapped by two men (McBride and Swardson) and forced to rob a bank at the risk of being blown up. Thus far, everything I’ve seen from the film has made me laugh and I can’t wait to check it out in theaters on August 12th. Watch the new restricted trailer after the jump.

Red-Band Trailer for ATTACK THE BLOCK

With its July 29th limited U.S. release approaching, a red-band trailer for writer/director Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block has landed online with the hopes of spreading the good word.  The film garnered a positive response at SXSW earlier this year and Matt called it “great” in his review.  To make a long story short, I’m jealous of anyone who has seen it and can only hope that the limited release makes it way to the Midwest so that I can check it out for myself and finally move on with life.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  For those unaware, the film centers on a street gang of kids who take on a hostile alien invasion.  Nick Frost co-stars alongside Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, and Luke Treadaway, and co-produces the pic alongside Edgar Wright.  Click here to check out all of our previous Attack the Block coverage.

Red-Band Trailer and Six Character Posters for BRIDESMAIDS

Universal has released a new red-band trailer for Bridesmaids along with six character posters.  I caught the film a couple weeks ago and overall I thought it was fantastic and a much-needed kick in the ass to the chick flick genre.  Women, if you like raunchy humor but are tired of only seeing it in movies featuring man-children, you’ll dig Bridesmaids.  Guys, if you’re thinking about avoiding this movie because of the all-female cast, you’ll be missing out.  The movie is damn funny and surprisingly heartfelt and I hope folks of both genders go see it.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer along with six character posters.  Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, and Melissa McCarthy.  The film opens May 13th.

Red-Band Trailer for 30 MINUTES OR LESS Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari

The trailer for the upcoming comedy 30 Minutes or Less has gone online.  The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a hapless pizza delivery guy who is kidnapped by two wanna-be criminal masterminds (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson) and forced to rob a bank.  Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), the film also stars Aziz Ansari and Michael Peña.  Even though this is a red-band trailer, there’s not a lot of profanity.  Instead, it gets laughs from funny dialogue and the chemistry between Eisenberg and Ansari.  What a mind-blowing concept.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  30 Minutes or Less opens August 12th.

Red-Band Trailer, Poster, and First Images from THE CHANGE-UP Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman

The first trailer for The Change-Up has gone online along with the poster and a couple of images. The film is a body-switching comedy like Freaky Friday except instead of kooky hijinks that bring a mother and daughter closer together, it’s a raunchy, foul-mouthed set of hijinks that centers on two estranged friends played by Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.  Bateman is the uptight family man while Reynolds’ character is a man-child who dreams of making it big as a Hollywood actor even though he lives in Atlanta.  I got to visit the set earlier this year and I really liked what I saw, so hopefully the film lives up to my expectations.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer, poster, and new images.  The film also stars Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde, and Alan Arkin.  The Change-Up opens August 5th.

New Trailer for THE HANGOVER PART II

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Hangover Part II. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this new trailer. It gives a solid sense of setting, does a good job of setting up the obstacles without giving too much away, and makes use of a track from the new Kanye album (always a plus, for me). Nevertheless, I can’t help but feel as if the trailer is a little too self-referential to the original (i.e. Alan’s love of terrible toasts and penis jokes, and Stu’s fear of once again breaking his teeth). Just my opinion, though.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover Part II stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Jeffrey Tambor, Mike Tyson, Justin Bartha, and Ken Jeong.  The film opens May 26th.

New Red-Band Trailer for HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN

Hobo-With-a-Shotgun-movie-slice

Hobo with a Shotgun is an absolute blast if you like vicious, cartoony violence.  The film will be available on demand starting tomorrow and Magnet has released a new red-band trailer to remind folks.  If you’ve already watched the first red-band trailer, I think you’ve already seen enough.  This new trailer has a lot of new footage and part of the fun in seeing the movie is not knowing how much crazier it’s going to get.

However, I can understand wanting to see as much of this movie as soon as possible, so you can check out the trailer after the jump.  Hobo with a Shotgun premieres tomorrow on VOD, iTunes, and Amazon.com.  It shoots into theaters on May 6th. Click here to check out my review.

New Red-Band Trailer for YOUR HIGHNESS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 23rd, 2011 at 10:52 am

Universal has released a new red-band trailer for David Gordon Green’s Your Highness.  While it’s not as long as the previous red-band trailer, almost all of the footage is new and there are many great jokes to be had.  Rather than recite them to you, you should just hit jump and check out the not-safe-for-work trailer even if you are at work.  Live dangerously.

Your Highness stars Danny McBride, James Franco, Zooey Deschanel, and Natalie Portman.  It opens April 8th.
