The long-delayed re-imagining of Red Dawn is finally hitting theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday. When the citizens of a city in Washington state find themselves the prisoners under enemy occupation by North Korea, a group of young patriots known as The Wolverines become determined to fight and band together to protect one another and take back their freedom. From director Dan Bradley, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
At the film’s press day, Collider spoke to actor Josh Peck – who plays the town’s star quarterback, Matt Eckert – in both a roundtable and 1-on-1 interview, in which he talked about how excited he is for people to finally get to see the film, how lucky he felt to get offered the role and not have to audition, his decision to wait until after they finished filming before he watched the original, just how grueling the boot camp training was, and his experience working with Chris Hemsworth. He also talked about what it was like to make the b-boy competition film Battle of the Year (which also stars Lost’s Josh Holloway), what he enjoys about doing more physical roles, and his hope to direct a feature film someday. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

At the film’s press day, actress Adrianne Palicki – who plays the tough, no-nonsense Toni – spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how excited she is that audiences will finally have a chance to see the film, going through a similar delay with the G.I. Joe sequel, how her Red Dawn training compared to her G.I. Joe: Retaliation training, how devastating the whole Wonder Woman experience was for her (with the TV show getting ordered to series and then having the plug pulled), working with co-star Chris Hemsworth, how she related to her character, and her thoughts on the possible Friday Night Lights movie. Today, we’re premiering a new TV spot for the upcoming remake of Red Dawn. The film focuses on a group of teenagers who become freedom fighters when their town is invaded and conquered by North Korea. Presumably, you’re investment in the movie rests on whether or not you can suspend your disbelief that North Korea could take over a 7/11 let alone entire parts of America.
Hit the jump to check out the TV spot. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Red Dawn opens November 21st.

A new trailer for the Red Dawn remake, dubbed a “patriotic trailer,” has been released online. Directed by Dan Bradley, the remake stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, and Arianne Palicki as a group of teenagers/young adults who must work together in order to repel invading North Korean forces. It appears that the marketing campaign is now heavily geared toward the film’s patriotic appeal despite the fact that the filmmakers troublingly switched the nationality of the film’s villains from Chinese to North Koreans in post-production by changing the colors of the flags (‘Merica!). Nevertheless, the film actually looks like it could be kind of fun if it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Three new clips have gone online for Dan Bradley’s directorial debut, Red Dawn. The veteran stunt actor and coordinator helms the remake of the 1984 film which centered on a group of American kids who defend their home against invading foreign soldiers. This time around, Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki and Josh Peck are up against those no-good Soviets Chinese North Koreans. The new clips show off a bit of flirtatious fun before the invasion, an alternate version of the invasion itself and an action scene that pays homage to the original film. Red Dawn opens November 21st. Hit the jump to check out the clips.

The redo—which was shot in 2009—stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki as a ragtag group of young ‘uns who must work together to repel invading North Korean forces. The world premiere on September 27th will be followed by a Red Dawn-themed party in which “prisoners will experience mandatory enjoyment from delousing stations as well as free prison tattoos and head-shaves.” Deer blood shots will also apparently be handed out while the band Future Folk takes the stage.

Considering the 2012 election cycle is currently in full swing, I feel compelled to lend my endorsement to a truly worthy candidate: The Campaign. As someone who unashamedly enjoys a majority of Will Ferrell‘s manchild cinematic escapades, I expected to like the pic. That said, I’m now putting The Campaign just behind Anchorman, Step Brothers, and Elf in my personal “Ferrell Top 4″: something I didn’t expect to be writing the day after seeing it. Sure, the film borrows a ton from Talladega Nights and Ferrell’s take on President Bush. It also manages to combine relevance, irreverence, and humor in a way many mainstream comedies can only promise and ultimately fail to deliver on.
Political endorsements aside, this week’s Top 5 contains a considerable share of The Bourne Legacy coverage, Joss Whedon returning to write/direct The Avengers 2, The Campaign interviews with Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, and more, the first trailer and new poster for the Red Dawn remake, and the news that some of Bane’s backstory was left on The Dark Knight Rises‘ cutting room floor. A brief recap and link to each awaits after the jump.

The first trailer for the long-delayed Red Dawnremake has been released. Watching this trailer, I’m reminded of why we now use aliens for all of our invasion movies. Being a superpower, it’s tougher to imagine the U.S. getting invaded by almost any other country. The original worked in 1984 because it preyed on Cold War fears, and those fears no longer exist. Even when China was the foe for the remake (a post-production change was made so that we wouldn’t lose money from their bustling economy; now the baddie is North Korea, which is laughable since they can’t even get a working rocket let alone an invasion force), there wasn’t too much fear, although that would at least provide a credible war. I will say that the rah-rah freedom on display is kind of cute, and it’s interesting that the remake focuses on the characters going on a mission rather than simply trying to survive like in the original.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Red Dawn opens on November 21st.

That Red Dawn remake that everyone nearly forgot about is finally hitting theaters this November, and a revamped poster for the film has been released. The pic was actually filmed in 2009, but sat on the shelf for years due to MGM’s financial troubles. Moreover, in a fairly disturbing move, the filmmakers decided to digitally change the film’s villains from the Chinese to the North Koreans once they realized the film’s box office chances in China would be severely crippled if the country was painted as villainous. Nevertheless, the pic is finally set for release this year and due to the delay, it now boasts the stars of two major franchises: Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. This new poster plays up the “Go America!” aspect and makes damn sure audiences know that Thor and Peeta are here to save the U.S. of A.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck, Isabel Lucas, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Connor Cruise. Red Dawn opens on November 21st.

A sneak peek at the upcoming trailer for the remake of Red Dawn has gone online. For those unfamiliar with the film, it’s about a group of teenagers who decide to take up arms and fight against a foreign invasion. In the original 1984 version, it was the Russians, and the remake wanted to update the invaders to the Chinese. However, after they finished shooting, the producers discovered that this might hurt distribution in China, so they decided to do some CGI change-ups to the flags and turn the invaders into North Koreans (in the hopes that you don’t notice that Chinese people and Korean people don’t look the same).
If you forgot that there was a remake of Red Dawn, you’re not alone. The film was completed years ago, but had to sit on the shelf while MGM went through a financial meltdown (a fate shared by The Cabin in the Woods). The movie was picked up for distribution by Film District in September 2011, and it will finally hit theaters on November 21st. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Connor Cruise. Hit the jump to check out a sneak peek at the trailer.
