Usually relegated to a strong but supporting role in a number of comedies as of late, Ed Helms has nabbed the lead role in the remake of the French comedy Le Mac. Variety reports that Helms will topline the remake and produce alongside Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films. Directed by Pascal Bourdeaux, the 2010 original film centered on a mild-mannered banker who was forced to masquerade as a notorious gangster and pimp. Johnny Rosenthal, who was recently tapped to pen the sequel to Bad Santa, sold the pitch and will write the screenplay himself.

After his starmaking turns in The Hangover and on The Office, Helms was recently front and center in the indie comedy Cedar Rapids alongside John C. Reilly and Anne Heche. He also has a role in the upcoming Jason Segel-starred comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home and will be lending his voice to The Lorax.

If there’s one thing nerds love, it’s basketball. At long last, a film is in development that will bring this in no way incongruous relationship to the big screen. Disney has acquired the remake rights to the sports documentary Quantum Hoops. The 2007 film chronicles the 2006 Caltech basketball team that played 21 seasons (245 conference games) without having a single win on their record. Deadline reports that Ben Stiller will produce the comedy through his Red Hour Films that will tell the story of a group of geniuses (nerds) who try for two decades to win a basketball game, relegating to hiring an exiled NCAA coach to lead them. Stan Chervin, who wrote the first draft of Moneyball, will pen the script. Hit the jump to watch the amusing trailer for the documentary.
