Linda Cardellini RETURN Interview

The indie drama Return (opening in theaters on February 10^th) tells the story of Kelli (Linda Cardellini), a woman back from a military tour of duty, who’s looking forward to rejoining her old life with her husband (Michael Shannon) and children. Even though she wanted nothing more than to experience the feelings of everyday life again, she slowly realizes that her world has become unfamiliar. Her friends and family just don’t understand what she’s been through, and she doesn’t know how to overcome that to move forward.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Linda Cardellini talked about what attracted her to this role, finding ways to identify with this woman even though she never chose to make the same sacrifice, talking to people with similar experiences to hear their stories and how they dealt with returning home after war, working with two amazing co-stars like Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) and John Slattery (Mad Men), and the challenges of being on screen for almost every single minute of the film. She also talked about last year’s Freaks and Geeks reunion at PaleyFest and what it was like to see not just her co-stars but their families again, how she got interested in writing and developing her own projects, and what she’s looking for now in acting roles. First Trailer and Poster for RETURN Starring Linda Cardellini and Michael Shannon

A trailer for the drama Return has gone online. The film stars Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks) as a returned soldier struggling to fit back into the life she left behind. It’s a familiar story that’s been told quite a few times before, but Return tells it from a female’s point of view. It’s hard to judge the movie based on the trailer as its success will likely hinge on the performances, but Cardellini looks to be doing some solid work here. We don’t see much of co-stars Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) and John Slattery (Mad Men), but the trailer’s more a mood piece than a full-on plot explanation.

Casting Call: Alice Eve in ATM; Ray Liotta Feels WANDERLUST; John Slattery Makes a RETURN; Martin Freeman Joins ANIMALS

We have four brief casting stories for you this morning.  First up, the Winnipeg Free Press reports [via Bloody Disgusting] that Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) has replaced Margarita Levieva in David Brooks’ ATM.  Described as “Hitchcockian”, the film (written by Buried screenwriter Chris Sparling), centers on three co-workers (Eve, Brian Geraghty, and Peck) who make a late-night visit to an ATM and end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.

Indie Casting Call: Lawrence and Yelchin Lead LIKE CRAZY; Cardellini, Shannon, and Nelson to Star in RETURN; Moore Takes a MARGIN CALL

We got two pieces of casting news for you this late morning/early afternoon.  First up, Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) will star in the indie romantic Like Crazy.  According to 24 Frames, the indie romantic drama centers on “young college students who fall in love at first sight. They then go their separate ways for years, before a dramatic (and complicated) reunion.”  The film also stars Felicity Jones (Cemetery Junction), Chris Messina (Julie & Julia), and Charlie Bewley (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
