From time to time, Mondo likes to welcome a few new artists into the fold.  They’re also big on launching posters as part of a larger “series”, as in their ongoing Universal Monsters releases, the still-waiting-for-a-Martin-Ansin-Twelve-Monkeys series based on the films of Terry Gilliam, or the somewhat-unofficial Tyler-Stout-doing-Quentin-Tarantino-films series.  Today, they’re doing all of these things at once:  a new poster series based on the filmography of Paul Thomas Anderson has been announced, and they’re bringing in both artists new and old to see it through to completion.  See some of that action after the jump, Captain.

Last year, Mondo put together a fun little event for the 2012 Academy Awards:  a few days prior to that Oscar Sunday, Mondo announced that a series of brand-new posters (all of which were based on that year’s Oscar-nominated films) would be dropping throughout the Academy’s broadcast.  Everyone dug the idea, the whole thing went off without a hitch, and—most importantly—waiting on a drop gave all of us something to focus on whenever watching the Oscars became too much to bear.

And so, when the Mondo guys announced they’d be doing it all over again in 2013, we were pumped (as were many of you).  But once that excitement died down, we were left wondering which of 2012’s Oscar-nominated films would get the Mondo treatment…and which of the rumors we’d been hearing would turn out to be true.  Answers to those questions (and many more) await you after the jump, folks.

All week long, rumors have circulated about a “top-secret” event taking place in Los Angeles next weekend.  We mentioned that an announcement was forthcoming back on Monday or Tuesday, and in the time since…well, lemme tell ya:  you wouldn’t believe some of the crazy theories and rumors people emailed in to Limited Paper HQ.  We heard “it’s a Banksy show”, that “it’s definitely a Hanksy show”, that it was an all-Olly-Moss joint, that an entire crew of artists were involved and that they’d all been forced to sign contracts preventing them from revealing anything about this mystery event prior to the official announcement.  Somewhere in the middle of all that, Gallery1988’s Twitter feed promised that whatever was being planned would be a “game-changer”.  What’s the truth?  Find out after the jump.

Last week, BAFTA premiered special posters for their Best Picture nominees.  Today, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had followed suit by teaming up with Gallery1988 and various artists to create posters for this year’s Best Picture Oscar nominees.  There are some impressive posters, and I’m curious to see if they’re going to go on sale at some point.  The Academy’s website lists the dimensions and type of production (screen print), which leads me to believe that these might be available for purchase some day.  I’m sure there are plenty of readers who would love to get their hands on Mark Englert‘s print for Django Unchained. [Update: Gallery1988 has tweeted the following: "G1988 x The Academy. Official. 2/14 - 2/17. More soon." so it looks like you should get your wallets ready, and keep an eye on their official website.]

Limited Paper just keeps on coming, people!  Last time, we told you all about the Phone Booth Gallery’s amazing A Distant Winter gallery show (and showed up some pretty kick-ass photos, to boot), and this time we’ve got even more exciting news for all the limited paper-collecting poster-freaks in the audience:  want details on Mondo’s drop schedule at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con? We’re big fans of Mondo—the collectible boutique arm of the legendary Alamo Drafthouse—here at Collider. They commission and make available gorgeous works of art inspired by movies small and large, commercial and cult hits. This past weekend Mondo opened their first ever gallery in Austin, TX, right in the middle of the SXSW Film Festival. The gallery opening was a huge success, and I’m incredibly jealous as both Steve and Matt got a chance to attend and take a gander. For those of us not lucky enough to make the trip, Mondo has made available images of some of the prints they had on display for their inaugural sci-fi show. They include stunning works including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, A Trip to the Moon, War of the Worlds and more.

We’re now just past the halfway point on Mondo’s stellar run of Star Wars-inspired posters.  For those who don’t know, Mondo is the Alamo Drafthouse’s art boutique and they’ve recruited some terrific artists to do some fantastic work in this series.  Today, we are super-excited to bring you an exclusive first look at the newest poster in the series, “Attack Position” by artist Rich Kelly.  Kelly also recently did very cool posters for Beetlejuice and Metropolis.  This is also the first poster in the series to feature everyone’s favorite wookie, Chewbacca.  It’s a badass-looking poster and I’m sure it will sell out at the same “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” rate as the others.

Get ready to open your wallets and clear some free time to keep refreshing Mondo’s Twitter feed because the Alamo Drafthouse’s art boutique is putting three new posters on sale tomorrow at a random time.  First up is Olly Moss’ terrific poster for the wonderful comedy Four Lions that we showed you a couple weeks ago.  They’ve also got a poster for Beetlejuice designed by Rich Kelly as well as a poster for Dead Alive by Adam Haynes.  The Dead Alive poster will have a glow-in-the-dark variant.

Mondo, which is the boutique shop of the Alamo Drafthouse, has six posters going on sale today.  Three of the posters are from artist Olly Moss and were showcased earlier as part of this year’s Fantastic Fest.  Today, you’ll be able to buy his posters for Let Me In and two versions of his poster for Rubber.  Also going on sale is a Poltergeist poster by Ken Taylor, a Metropolis poster by Rich Kelly, and a fantastic Aguirre: The Wrath of God poster by Jay Ryan.
