I am an unabashed fan of The O.C., which is equivalent to being an Adam Brody supporter. His career never took off like we all expected after the Fox soap signed off the air 2007, but there’s still time for the 32-year-old actor to flourish. The next couple years promises a flurry of Brody, including Damsels in Distress, The Oranges, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and Lovelace. At least one of those ought to stick, but tonight we received word of two more starring vehicles for Brody: Some Girls and Welcome to the Jungle. Some Girls is a feature adaptation of the Neil LaBute play bout a successful writer who meets with five ex-girlfriends before his wedding. Welcome to the Jungle also features Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme(!) as a group of co-workers who go on an office retreat and end up stranded on a tropical island. Hit the jump for more on each project.

Rob Corddry. Lake Bell. Rob Huebel. Malin Akerman. Megan Mullally. Henry Winkler. Erinn Hayes. Ken Marino. If you’re a fan of comedy, chances are you’re a fan of more than a few of these people. So what happens when you squeeze all these personalities, plus notable guest appearances by Paul Scheer, Adam Scott, David Wain, and more, into 11 minute episodes parodying medical dramas? Childrens Hospital, a sporadically hilarious, consistently goofy satire that’s worth your time, if only for its brisk run time. Continue reading for a full review of the show and a rundown of the DVD extras.

Two important facts to remember about Childrens Hospital: 1. It’s the funniest show about doctors currently on air (2nd was the now defunct Off the Map) 2. Practically nobody has ever heard of it. The latter is rather hard to understand given the show features a who’s who lineup of comic personalities: Rob Corddry (The Daily Show), Rob Huebel (Human Giant), Henry Winkler (Happy Days), Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), Ken Marino (Party Down), David Wain (The State) and the voice of Michael Cera (Arrested Development) to name just a few.
At UCLA Tuesday Night, select cast and crew (Huebel, Corddry, Mullaly, Marino, Wain, Nick Kroll (The League), Malin Akerman (The Comeback), Erin Hayes (Kitchen Confidential) and writer/producer Jon Stern screened the opening third season episode and then held a Q&A, wherein they discussed “special” guest stars for the upcoming season, the deference to non-continuity on the show, casting, endometrial cancer and their favorite porn stars, among many other topics of conversation. The cast for the pre-apocalyptic rom-com Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has just kind of exploded. The film was already set to star Steve Carell as a man who is joined by a woman (Keira Knightley) to find his old high-school sweeheart before the world is destroyed by an asteroid. Yesterday, we learned that the talented Gillian Jacobs had joined the film and now we’ve received a press release announcing that a truckload of other great actors have signed on as well. Check out this line-up: Connie Britton, Patton Oswalt, Rob Huebel (who yesterday signed on to another apocalypse-based comedy, Rapturepalooza), Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, Melinda Dillon as well as Aaron Brown (The District), Tonita Castro (The Sarah Silverman Program), Mark Moses (Desperate Housewives), and Bob Stephenson (Jericho). And this is all in addition to the previously announced cast-members William Petersen, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry (also in Rapturepalooza), Derek Luke, and Lindsay Sloane. How can the movie squeeze in this kind of ensemble? It’s a road-trip picture, which means most of these folks will probably only have a scene or two, but it’s better than nothing.
Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is making her directorial debut from her own script. Production on the film begins this week. Hit the jump to check out the press release.
[Update: We've updated the article with a couple of set photos featuring Carell and Knightley. Check them out after the jump]

We have a couple of casting bits to bring your way tonight. First up, Community‘s Gillian Jacobs has joined Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Written/directed by Lorene Scafaria (who wrote the film adaptation of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Friend tells the story of a man (Carell) and woman (Knightley) who embark on a trip to locate the former’s high school sweetheart before an oncoming asteroid ends life on Earth as we know it. THR reports that Jacobs’ role will be that of a “waitress high on Ecstasy that the duo meet on their journey” (which sounds eerily similar to the one Lindsay Sloane was in talks for as of last week). The story also confirms earlier reports that William Peterson, Adam Brody, and Rob Corddry will appear in the film. Production on the film began this week in Los Angeles.
Speaking of Rob Corddry, Variety confirms that he, Rob Huebel (Childrens’ Hospital), and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!) will star in the post-apocalyptic comedy Rapturepalooza. The trio join a cast that already includes Anna Kendrick (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), John Francis Daley (Bones), and The Office‘s Craig Robinson. The promising, albeit low-budget (coming in at less than $2 million), centers on two teens (Kendrick and Daley) who battle their way through the end of the world in order to defeat the Antichrist (Robinson). Paul Middleditch will direct Rapturepalooza for Lionsgate from a script by Chris Matheson.

The films I saw at Sundance this year involved a variety of subjects ranging from hippies to shot-gun wielding hobos to cults to young love to hippies to puppetry to cults to euthanasia to hippies to Roger Corman to cults. I didn’t think my first year at Sundance would close out with an inoffensive, innocuous movie like Flypaper. A caper comedy that wants to be Inside Man meets Clue meets Ten Little Indians but never becomes a fraction as good as any of those movies, Flypaper still manages some laughs due to its manic energy, non-stop jokes, and the brilliant Tim Blake Nelson.

Though the people at Funny or Die deliver some of the best comedy online that money can’t buy (because it’s free), last year they delivered an impressive first season of even more high quality and consistently off-the-wall and hilarious sketch comedy on their HBO series Funny or Die Presents. Now the show is returning for its second season this Friday, January 14th at Midnight/11c on HBO.
Below we’ve included a hilarious trailer for the new season that features the talents of Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Fred Willard (Anchorman), Elijah Wood, and Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly and many more. Also check out a couple of the sketches in their entirety featuring Ferrell, Reilly and others. There’s some good stuff here and I can’t wait to see what else Funny or Die Presents has in store. See the videos after the jump.

Today I had the privilege of participating in a roundtable with the creators and cast of Adult Swim’s Childrens’ Hospital. Initially a web series on TheWB.com, the hilariously over-the-top primetime drama parody is crossing platforms, and will premiere its second season on Adult Swim on August 22nd. Members of the show participating in the interview included: creator Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), Lake Bell (It’s Complicated), Erinn Hayes (Parenthood), Paul Scheer (Human Giant), Rob Huebel (The Other Guys), Nick Kroll (Get Him to the Greek), and writer/director David Wain (Role Models).
It probably goes without saying, given the comedic talents of those involved, but the roundtable was a very light, very funny place for the amount of time we were given. Hit the jump for a bulleted breakdown of some of the highlights.

As the outrageous twists of medical soaps like Grey’s Anatomy and House are ripe for parody, Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine) took it upon himself to create Childrens Hospital for TheWB.com, a web series which sends up the silly doctor dramas with an all-star cast. Adult Swim took notice, and in a rare live-action effort, ordered an adaptation of the web series for their late night programming. In addition to Corddry, the regular cast includes Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally and Henry Winkler. On top of that, such notables as Ed Begley Jr., Lizzy Caplan, John Cho, Paul Scheer, and David Wain are all slated for guest spots.
Childrens Hospital premieres July 11 at 10:30 on Adult Swim. Check out the press release, and the first episode of the web series, after the jump.

In a sign that this year’s MTV Movie Awards may be worth watching, comedian Aziz Ansari has come on board to host the ceremony. While I can almost guarantee all the awards will be going to either New Moon or Avatar, what people talk about are the sketches and the jokes and Ansari kills at both. His series with Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer, Human Giant (which also aired on MTV), as well as his latest comedy special, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, are both hilarious and well worth checking out.
Hit the jump for the full press release along with videos from Human Giant and Intimate Moments. You should also be watching Ansari on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, which is one of the funniest shows on television.

How can you not be down with Paul Rudd? His career renaissance is one of the best parts about comedies in the 21st century, and since The 40-Year-Old Virgin he’s been an actor you can count on to just take it home. A lot of this rebirth has to do with his great turn in Wet Hot American Summer (a film that helped launch a number of talents, like Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks), but audiences seem to have fallen in love with him all over again. As well they should. And with I Love You, Man and Role Models he even gets to headline films, though paired with another comic actor. My review of I Love You, Man after the jump.
