Adam Sandler Considers GROWN UPS Sequel; America is to Blame

Believe it or not, from Adam Sandler’s extensive body of films, he has never made a sequel. Now some of you may argue that his basic plot is rehashed in 90% of his films (and I wouldn’t disagree), but the fact remains that there has never been a second installment of any of his films. It seems that the creative well has run even drier as Showblitz (via Variety) reports that Sandler is in talks with Grown Ups scribe, Fred Wolf to discuss a potential sequel. I can’t exactly blame him. Sony and Happy Madison Productions’  Grown Ups was the highest-grossing film for Sandler at a worldwide total of $271 million. Though Sandler is not yet signed on for the sequel, his involvement is contingent upon the script. Perhaps we’ll see him in a reunion with Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. GROWN UPS Blu-ray Review

by Scott Wampler    Posted: November 7th, 2010 at 7:41 am

Earlier this year, we watched Columbia/Sony’s marketing department go absolutely crazy with their push for audiences to see Grown Ups, a comedy starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider.  Apparently, that push worked:  Grown Ups earned well over $160m at the box office, a figure that’s truly astounding.  Having avoided the film like the Red Death when it was in theaters over the summer, I was curious when Collider’s overlords handed me a copy of the Blu-ray for review:  Would Grown Ups be as bad as I was expecting it to be, or were those $160m worth of people right all along?  Read on for the full review after the jump…

Sony has provided us with 5 clips from director Dennis Dugan’s Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph.  The movie is about five men who were best friends when they were young kids and now are getting together for the Fourth of July weekend to meet each others’ families for the first time.  If you’ve seen the trailer and the TV spots, you’ve seen most of the footage.  Hit the jump to check the clips out.  Grown Ups gets released June 25.

Adam Sandler Clarifies His Dual Roles as JACK AND JILL; Dennis Dugan Will Direct

Director Dennis Dugan will continue his longstanding partnership with Adam Sandler to direct the actor in dual roles for the comedy Jack and Jill.  Previously, we only knew that Sandler will play both Jack and his twin sister Jill in the film, deemed a “romantic comedy.”  That kind of ambiguity leaves open some dangerously icky possibilities, but recent comments from Sandler make it seem like the romance element is not a major portion of the narrative.  Interpret Sandler’s comments for yourself after the jump.

New Trailers for KNIGHT AND DAY, GROWN UPS, and ONDINE

We’ve got a nice batch of trailers for you this fine Friday morning.  First up, there’s the great trailer for the action-comedy Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.  I’ve come to accept that Tom Cruise: The Celebrity will always be a figure of ridicule, but I still believe that Tom Cruise: The Actor is a lot of fun.

Then there’s the awful trailer for Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade.  Let me sum it up right now: Fatty fall down, woman breast-feeds 4-year-old, men pee in swimming pool.  Oh the hilarity.

Finally, there’s the trailer for Ondine starring Colin Farrell.  It’s worth checking out because it looks like an old myth but told with originality.  Hit the jump to see all three trailers along with a synopsis for each movie.

New High Resolution Images from GROWN UPS Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade

Sony has released a bunch of new images from their summer comedy Grown Ups. Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph, the film is about five friends and former teammates who reunite decades later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach.  With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier.

With a June 25 release date, you know Grown Ups is going to be a safe middle-of-the-road comedy, but after the insane box office of Paul Bart: Mall Cop , I wouldn’t bet against this film.  Hit the jump to check out all the new high resolution images:

First Trailer for GROWN UPS Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Chris Rock

You know that Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Chris Rock are good guys because they let their friends Rob Schneider and David Spade share the spotlight despite the complete lack of talent or star power from those two.  But we can enjoy another safe, middle-of-the-road comedy from comedians who lost all desire for subversive and challenging humor in their movies (although to be fair, Rock excels when performing his own material).  I’m sure it will be successful at the box office, but I’ll be spending time on films I find funny rather than those that make me wistful for a time when Sandler was willing to be madcap enough to set Bradley Whitford on fire in one scene and have him perfectly fine in the next.

Alex Garland Wrote a Judge Dredd Script That Isn’t Dreadful

I don’t know if the world is begging for a new Judge Dredd movie but wither you wanted it or not, it is coming.  I don’t really care if we get a new film or not but I’m now interested after finding out who will be writing the new adaptation.  According to a tweet by Judge Dredd comic artist, Mark “Jock” Simpson, Danny Boyle’s frequent collaborator, Alex Garland (“Sunshine”, “28 Days Later”), has turned in a “great” script. You can get the full details when you hit the jump.
