On February 12th, the hit zombie series The Walking Dead returns to AMC. Picking up just where the last episode and big reveal left off, that huge event rocks all of the characters to their core, leading some of them down surprising paths in the last six episodes of Season 2. While zombies are always a terrifying threat, a new human threat is looming, as the capacity for humans to hurt each other proves infinite.
While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, executive producer/writer/comic book creator Robert Kirkman and executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara talked about the slow build-up during the first half of the season, how the second half will accelerate the storytelling, the decision to introduce a new human threat, fan favorite characters from the comics who will likely appear sooner rather than later, the hope to bring Lennie James back at some point, and whether the possible concept ideas that former showrunner Frank Darabont had for Season 2 could ever have happened. Kirkman also talked about where the comic book series is headed, and the types of comic book titles he’s looking to release through his publishing label. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers:

If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get caught up on every single episode of the phenomenal series The Walking Dead, well you’re in luck. AMC will be airing a marathon of the post-apocalyptic zombie survival series all day, Saturday, December 31st starting at 11AM EST with the pilot, “Days Gone By” and running up through the mid-season finale, “Pretty Much Dead Already.” The 13 episodes, based off of the graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, will be aired back-to-back with the mid-season finale beginning as the clock strikes midnight to usher in 2012 (the pilot and first episode of season two are each ninety-minutes). Hit the jump for more.

After their wildly successful first season, the cast and crew of The Walking Dead shambled into Ballroom 20 at Comic Con to thank the fans for their support and share some info about the upcoming season. First to arrive was the creative team of series creator/writer/director/executive producer Frank Darabont, executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman (creator/writer of The Walking Dead comic book series) and makeup artist and consulting producer, Greg Nicotero. Next came the principal cast, including Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun and Jeffrey DeMunn. Hit the jump to see what cast and crew have in store for fans in season 2, plus a new trailer.

The Saturday schedule for Comic-Con has been released, and it looks to be a very big day for TV fans. However, Hall H will be having a fairly light day, with the highest profile panels being Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman and Tarsem Singh’s Immortals. Other films taking up shop in Hall H on Saturday include Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, the comedy-fantasy Knights of Badassdom, the animated film Dorothy of Oz, and wrapping things up will be “An Early Evening with Kevin Smith.”
TV highlights include Chuck, Terra Nova, Being Human, Futurama, The Simpsons, Community, Family Guy, American Dad, Adventure Time, Once Upon a Time, The Vampire Diaries, The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra, Grimm (includes pilot screening), Fringe, Charlie’s Angels, The Secret Circle, Alcatraz (includes pilot screening), Teen Wolf, Nikita, Good Vibes, Person of Interest (includes pilot screening), and Mythbusters. The day also includes comic panels with Joss Whedon and Robert Kirkman. Hit the jump for a list of schedule highlights for movies and TV.

The second season of AMC’s hit television series, The Walking Dead, started filming earlier this month and we have our first look at day one of shooting. Not much time has lapsed between the spectacular ending of season one and where season two picks up, but it’s a long time for fans to wait. As of now, the second season is slated to premiere in October alongside AMC’s annual Fearfest.
That’s the same time that the first season premiered, but this time around we will be treated to thirteen episodes instead of a meager six. While the show is picking up right where it left off, there have been some huge developments behind the scenes. For more on those developments, what to expect from season two, and your first glimpse at filming, hit the jump.

At WonderCon last weekend, Adam Chitwood and I sat down and interviewed The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. We asked him about how his life had changed since the success of the TV show, how they’re planning to up the zombie kills in season two, the upcoming video game, as well as his other comics projects like The Infinite and supporting new comics like Witch Doctor. Hit the jump to either read or listen to the interview.

It used to be that television was a place for movie actors to retire. TV was considered “second-rate”; a far-away land where actors stood suspended in limbo, waiting to get called up into the big leagues. Now? We’re in the middle of a creative renaissance, where some of the best storytelling is playing out over long-form, serialized TV shows. The home to some of the best original work in the industry is AMC, and last fall the channel took a serious gamble with an expensive show about zombies that had little-to-no star power. And boy did it pay off.
The Walking Dead premiered last Halloween and became the most-watched cable television series in history in the coveted 18-49 demographic. Viewers were surprised to find that the show wasn’t really about zombies at all, but in actuality was a morality tale about the human condition. Any apprehension that The Walking Dead wouldn’t fit with AMC’s intense character dramas Mad Men and Breaking Bad was quickly subdued, and a horror/action/drama series about zombies proved to be a master feat of storytelling. My review of Season One of The Walking Dead on Blu-ray after the jump.

With its premiere just over one month away, AMC has released a new poster for The Walking Dead. Featuring Officer Rick Grimes and his horse riding solo straight into zombie mayhem, this is a pretty sweet poster for a show I’m definitely excited about watching. As good as it is, though, the fact that Grimes and Co. are experiencing zero traffic on their way into town makes the inevitable “Zombie Apocalypse” look oddly appealing. You know, in a “Wow, I’m actually on time for work today. My boss is going to…dammit, everyone’s a zombie,” sort of way.
Written/directed by Oscar-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), The Walking Dead pilot premieres Halloween night on AMC at 10/9 CST. As you may already know, the series is adapted from Robert Kirkman’s ongoing comic series of the same name. Hit the jump to check out the poster. In case you missed it, we’ve included the show’s trailer after the jump as well.

AMC has released the first official image from their upcoming zombie show The Walking Dead. The image features actor Andrew Lincoln as protagonist Rick Grimes. The series is based of the comics by Robert Kirkman. Said Kirkman of Lincoln playing the role:
Writing this book for the past seven years I’ve gotten very close to the character of Rick. Andrew Lincoln embodies every aspect of the character that fans know and love. After seeing this photo I don’t think that there will be a doubt in anyone’s mind that he’s perfect for the role.

AMC has so far been two-for-two with original series with Mad Men and Breaking Bad. The network will test their luck with the conspiracy thriller Rubicon this summer, but production began today for the forthcoming adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead. The six-episode first season is written, directed, and produced by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), and follows “a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.”
AMC sent over a gruesome high resolution photo of one of “The Walkers”, the moniker attributed to the zombies of the series. Check it out after the jump. [UPDATE: We've been sent a video introduction to The Walking Dead and more images. You can check them out after the jump as well.]

AMC is on a roll. “Mad Men” has won the Emmy for Best Drama two years running and “Breaking Bad” is no slouch either. Now the network is trying yet another original idea: a zombie drama series based on the “The Walking Dead” comic series. Better yet, Frank Darabont (“Shawshank Redemption,” “The Green Mile,” “The Mist”) is helming it. Series creator Robert Kirkman discusses the new venture after the jump.

Frank Darabont, director of “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile”, is adapting and directing a TV version of the definitive zombie comic “The Walking Dead”. The project is being executive produced by Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd for a berth on basic cable’s AMC network. More after the jump.
