TRANSFORMERS: PRIME Info, Poster and First Clip; A New Five Part Original CGI Mini-Series Premiering on The Hub

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 28th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

If you’re a fan of Transformers, you’ll be happy to learn that The Hub (formerly Discovery Kids) will be premiering a new five-part original CGI-animated Transformers series on November 29 – December 3 and it’s called Transformers: Prime.  According to the info we were given:

The all-new mini-series will feature iconic characters of the franchise, including Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, and the ominous Decepticon Megatron, as well as introducing new human characters to the action series. The series takes place on Earth.

While I’m a bit apprehensive to get too excited for a new animated series, it is being executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Jeff Kline.  Kurtzman and Orci served as executive producers and writers on Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  Let’s hope this is better than the last movie.  Hit the jump for more info on the series, and you can also check out the poster in high resolution.

Noah Ringer, Star of THE LAST AIRBENDER, Joins COWBOYS & ALIENS

If you’re twelve years old, and you looking to break on to the Hollywood scene, all you need to do is practice, practice, practice . . . karate.  Noah Ringer already (and a bit controversially) landed the lead role for Paramount’s upcoming summer tentpole The Last Airbender, and now Variety reports that director Jon Favreau likes the young actor for a character in Cowboys & Aliens.  Note that Ringer has not a lick of acting experience to his name, but he does have a black belt!  Ringer will join Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and the recently cast Harrison Ford to act out the words of screenwriting team Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) and Damon Lindelof (Lost).  More after the jump:

CBS Books HAWAII FIVE-0 Remake, Danno

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has officially greenlighted a remake of the iconic police drama Hawaii Five-0, which ran for twelve seasons from 1968-1980.  For you young’ns, the original centered on former Navy officer Steve McGarrett (played by Jack Lord) and the adventures of a fictional branch of the state police force.  Its lasting impacts on pop culture include the catch phrase “Book ‘em, Danno” and an awesome surf rock theme song.

The pilot of the new Hawaii Five-0 was scripted by ubiquitous writing team Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, the creative minds behind this summer’s Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, as well as CSI:NY executive producer Peter Lenkov.  If a series results, Hawaii Five-0 will add Honolulu as a new location under CBS jurisdiction; the network currently airs police procedurals based in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, Miami, Toronto, Sacramento, and Quantico.  That’s a lot of crime.

My current interest level in the project is entirely defined by my curiosity to see the new millenium’s take on the original’s wicked theme song, which you should check out after the jump.

STAR TREK Sequel Sets June 29, 2012 Release Date

According to Box Office Mojo, the sequel to 2009′s Star Trek just found itself some nice, official real estate on the calendar.  The currently untitled Star Trek sequel is looking to hit theaters on June 29, 2012.  Not much is known about the film so far, although writers Damon Lindelof, Robert Orci, and Alex Kurtzman as well as J.J. Abrams have hinted at storylines they are considering.  Still, many questions remain: Will Abrams return to the director’s chair?  Is there any room for a Shatner cameo?  Will Chris Pine at some point look up into the sky and shout “Khaaaaaaaaaan!”?

Last summer’s reboot reignited interest in the Star Trek franchise in a major way, so hopefully the sequel can live up to the immense hype it will surely gather by June 2012.

Update - Steve here.  I spoke to Star Trek producer Bryan Burk and he confirmed the June 29, 2012 release date.  While it’ll be a long wait, having two plus years to make the movie should ensure a quality film.  Personally, I’d rather wait longer for a great film than get something rushed.

Major Updates on STAR TREK 2

To promote the release of Star Trek today on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download, the cast and crew have once again stepped into public to let us know where the U.S.S. Enterprise is heading next.  First, a bit of sad but not totally unexpected news: We probably won’t see Star Trek 2 until 2012.  It is a bit of a bummer considering that we’ve grown accustomed to a breakout hit having its sequel ready in two years time.  The bright side is that they won’t be rushed and can really put their time into making this film better than the first.

Hit the jump for more about the sequel’s villains, timeline, and the tone the filmmakers want to set.

At a press day for the upcoming DVD releases of both Star Trek (out on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 17th) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (out on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 20th) writer/producers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman took time to preview their upcoming release schedule.

While still trying to break stories for the Star Trek sequel, the twosome are pushing their next project, Cowboys and Aliens, into production with director Jon Favreau, are working on developing a View-Master film, and also oversee at least a couple episodes of the television series Fringe each season. What they had to say is after the jump:

With Comic-Con 2009 fast approaching, get ready for a ton of updates about what’s going on at this year’s convention. Since there is no reason to ramble on, I’ll keep all the intros brief.

If you’re a fan of either “The Big Bang Theory” or “Fringe”, both shows will be there and both are bringing the cast and creators. While production on the shows start around the convention, they will still have some fun videos to watch. The info on both is after the jump:
