While Robert Pattinson fans have been waiting in vain for the domestic release of his new film Bel Ami, ten minutes of scenes from the pic have now hit the web with Pattinson’s lady-wooing skills on full display. The film is an adaptation of the 1885 Guy de Maupassant novel and stars Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, and Kristin Scott Thomas. This Bel Ami tease comes by way of a sizzle reel intended to pique interest at the Berlin Film Festival where the film is premiering. If Bel-Ami nabs distribution at the fest, the film will finally get a US release date. It’s currently set to open in the UK in March.

New Images from PROMETHEUS, BRAVE, and THE HOBBIT

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 5th, 2012 at 5:44 pm

Hot on the heels of the first image from The Bourne Legacy, we’ve got new images from Ridley Scott’s sci-fi pic Prometheus, the next James Bond entry Skyfall, Pixar’s upcoming fairy tale Brave, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. While nothing’s too groundbreaking, we do get our first official look at Daniel Craig in Skyfall (Correction: the image is actually from Casino Royale, so we’re still lacking an official image of Craig in Skyfall), and you can’t really get enough of Martin Freeman as Bilbo in The Hobbit. The Twilight image seems familiar so I’m not entirely sure it’s new , but I figured Twilight fans wouldn’t mind another gander if they’ve seen it before (Correction: it’s from Breaking Dawn: Part 1, but I still included it because, you know, Bella and Edward).

New Trailer for BEL-AMI Starring Robert Pattinson

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 22nd, 2011 at 7:12 am

A new trailer for the period drama Bel-Ami has gone online. Based on Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel of the same name, the story centers on a poverty-stricken soldier who climbs the social ladder in Paris by manipulating a number of mistresses. The trailer is basically Robert Pattinson bedding a bunch of involved women, then being surprised at the fact that his “Imma sex every girl in Paris” attitude brings him trouble. His conquests include Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Christina Ricci. I haven’t read de Maupassant’s novel, but the story doesn’t exactly look all that appealing based on this trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Omerod, Bel-Ami opens in the U.K. on March 2nd and is currently awaiting a domestic release date.

New Posters for CHRONICLE, COSMOPOLIS and RISE OF THE GUARDIANS

With less than two weeks left in 2011, it’s time to set our sights on movies that will be opening in 2012. Since the coming year is releasing a ton of big budget movies that will dominate media coverage, we thought we’d take a moment to highlight some of the lesser known fare that will be gracing the screens over the  next twelve months. We’ve got some new posters that will be a first look at these projects for some of you and a gentle reminder for others. First up is the superhero “found footage” thriller Chronicle by director Josh Trank (The Kill Point). Trank’s cinematic directorial debut features three teenagers who become imbued with superpowers and how those abilities darken their lives. Next, from David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method) comes Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson (Twilight). The adaptation of the Don DeLillo’s novel by the same name follows a young billionaire (Pattinson) as his limo traverses Manhattan in search of a haircut (not making this up). Finally, the animated Rise of the Guardians, which has the most charming poster in my opinion, is based off of the “Guardians of Childhood” book series by William Joyce and features childhood legends teaming up to take on the Boogeyman. WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Blu-ray Review

by Andre Dellamorte    Posted: November 26th, 2011 at 6:21 am

water-for-elephants-robert-pattinson-slice

Water for Elephants is tasteful. Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz are all good actors, Francis Lawrence knows his way around a camera, and screenwriter Richard LaGravenese knows his way around a sentence. It’s an adaptation of a popular novel about a circus show. One of those books that find an audience with women, is often well regarded, but not taken all that seriously.

Robert Pattinson is famous for Twilight. But like any actor he wants to show that he’s not just the captain of Team Edward. Christoph Waltz won an academy award, but he needs to show he can work in Hollywood, so why not play a slightly less evil character than last time? Reese Witherspoon is a bankable actress – or at least used to be – and who else are you going to cast if Angelina Jolie is out of your price range? Francis Lawrence is a director who wants to show he’s not just a genre filmmaker after Constantine and I Am Legend. You can clearly see everyone’s motivations for making the movie. That the end results are half-cooked is also not surprising. Our review of Water for Elephants on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 17th, 2011 at 3:02 pm

I’m always surprised when I like anything Twilight-related.  I’ve written at length on how I find the subtext of the movies repulsive even though I can understand how the text can be enjoyed as shallow fantasy.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 even managed to wrap me up in that fantasy for the first half of the movie.  I’m not immune to big weddings and romantic honeymoons, and the first half is filled with happiness and humor.  Sadly, the second half of Breaking Dawn transforms into the mopey and idiotic drama I endured for the past three movies, but at least this time the series reached some glorious so-bad-it’s-good moments.

New Images from David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS Starring Robert Pattinson

New images from David Cronenberg‘s adaptation of Don DeLillo‘s Cosmopolis have found their way online.  The film stars Robert Pattinson as a newlywed billionaire who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day.  I’m willing to give Pattinson a pass on the Twilight films since I think the material is untenable, and I want to see if he rises to the challenge of a demanding lead role in a David Cronenberg movie.  (However, I feel it’s important to mention that I never saw Remember Me or Water for Elephants.)

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film impressive cast also stars Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu AmalricCosmopolis will likely hit theaters in 2012.

Happy Saturday, folks. I’m writing to you this week surrounded by a mountain of used facial tissue (that’s right, I’m not endorsing Kleenex on the site without some sort of kick back…wait, dang it). Cold season has officially set in which means I’m on a daily regimen of Dayquil (which I have no problem endorsing), warm tea, and self-pity. In case you’re a longtime reader of the “Top 5″ and you’re wondering to yourself, “Wasn’t Jason just complaining about the summer heat?”, the answer is yes. Out of the 52 yearly weeks, I’m generally not complaining about the weather for approximately 2 or 3 of them. It’s sad, I know.

In this week’s “Top 5″ you can find our video interviews with the cast of A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, press conferences with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and more from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 junket, the red band trailer for Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s  21 Jump Street, a sit-down with the great Albert Brooks, and our coverage to date of this year’s American Film Market. Find a brief recap and link to each after the jump.

During the fifteen or so minutes press conference, Stewart talked about filming Breaking Dawn and the challenge of making two films at the same time, avoiding being typecast, working with Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, her fans, what’s on her iPod, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Summit has sent over 5 clips from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, the fourth movie in the five-part Twilight series.  In Breaking Dawn, “Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson), plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage, honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child… which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).”

Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz also star.  Directed by Bill Condon, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 opens November 18th.  Watch the clips after the break and look for new interviews with the cast later this week.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Jacob Trailer

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 27th, 2011 at 1:56 pm

A new trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 has been released. This trailer focuses on the character Jacob, so we can reasonably expect more character trailers to be released leading up to the film’s premiere. Taylor Lautner is all angsty and pouty in the trailer, pining for Kristen Stewart who’s now been ruined by Robert Pattinson’s seed. Also, Stewart’s sickly appearance is a PSA for anyone hoping to get impregnated by a vampire. If you missed the behind-the-scenes featurette we posted earlier today, you can check that out here.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, and Kellan LutzThe Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 opens November 18th.

New Behind the Scenes Footage from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 27th, 2011 at 7:53 am

Last week, Summit released some behind-the-scenes footage from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.  It was a little over two minutes and it showed Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and director Bill Condon working through a number of scenes when the production was still filming.  If you enjoyed the footage from last week you’ll want to hit the jump, as we’ve been provided with another two or so minutes of additional behind-the-scenes footage.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 opens on November 18.

Summit has released a new featurette for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.  The featurette focuses on the wedding between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson), and as Pattinson so eloquently puts it, “it’s a relatively momentous moment.”  I’m sure Twilight fans will fawn over the wedding scene, and I’m always a fan of seeing an 18-year-old marry a 500-year-old vampire.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Taylor Lautner, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 opens November 18th.
