Michael Fassbender is becoming ubiquitous so thank goodness he’s an incredible actor. Last month, Fassbender signed on to star in Good Vibrations, which is a biopic about Belfast punk rock legend Terri Hooley. Today, ScreenDaily is reporting that Richard Dormer (Five Minutes of Heaven) will play Hooley while Steve Coogan, Bronagh Gallagher (Tamara Drewe) and Robert Sheehan will co-star. You’re probably aware of Coogan at this point, but you need to put Sheehan on your radar. He’s a strong dramatic presence in the Red Riding Trilogy but does a complete 180 to play the scene-stealing jackass Nathan on the British series Misfits. There was word last month that Fassbender’s Hunger co-star Liam Cunningham would also be in the film, but ScreenDaily makes no mention of him.
The film also has a strong presence behind the camera as Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa (Cherrybomb, which also starred Sheehan as well as Rupert Grint) are directing from a script by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry. Ocean’s Eleven composer David Holmes will produce and provide the score. Filming is set to begin this summer.
With director Dominic Sena’s Season of the Witch opening on January 7, we’ve been given 9 movie clips and an exclusive TV spot. Here’s the synopsis:
Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman star in this supernatural action adventure about a heroic Crusader and his closest friend who return home after decades of fierce fighting, only to find their world destroyed by the Plague. The church elders, convinced that a girl accused of being a witch is responsible for the devastation, command the two to transport the strange girl to a remote monastery where monks will perform an ancient ritual to rid the land of her curse. They embark on a harrowing, action-filled journey that will test their strength and courage as they discover the girl’s dark secret and find themselves battling a terrifyingly powerful force that will determine the fate of the world.

Empire has just debuted the trailer Cherrybomb starring Rupert Grint in a decidedly non-Ron Weasley role. The film revolves around two guys (Grint and Robert Sheehan) who fall for the same girl (Kimberley Nixon) and the good times sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll can lead to before the inevitible dramatic clash where you can see Grint ready to bust out Avada Kedavra.
In all fairness, Grint looks like he’s seriously set aside his Harry Potter role, at least judging by this trailer. The different hairstyle and accent don’t hurt.
