New images from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator have hit the net thanks to USA Today. The film centers on a reluctant attorney (played by James McAvoy) forced to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright), an accomplice in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, as her son was the only conspirator to escape the manhunt.  It also “follows the race to hunt down the small band of Confederate sympathizers who helped plot the attack.”

While the film was independently financed and doesn’t yet have a distributor, with the great cast (Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Long, Toby Kebbell) and Redford’s name, I’m sure this will get released.  Hit the jump to check out the new images:

With director Robert Zemeckis’ (“Beowulf”, “The Polar Express”) animated version of “A Christmas Carol” opening on November 6th, Walt Disney has provided us with six clips from the film.  While I normally love to check out the clips that we’re provided, the movie is being released in “Disney 3D” and that’s the way I want to see the footage for the first time.  However, since I know a lot of you want to check out the footage right now, the clips are after the jump.  Again, if you’re planning on seeing “A Christmas Carol” in a theater, make sure you see it in 3D!

Yesterday, we brought you the news that Justin Long would be trying his hand at drama by joining the cast of Robert Redford’s upcoming film “The Conspirator.  The film centers on a reluctant attorney (played by James McAvoy) forced to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright Penn), an accomplice in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln and to really ruin the play for everyone especially Abraham Lincoln.  Today, the first set photos from the film have landed online plus the news that Evan Rachel Wood and Toby Kebbell are now in the cast.  Hit the jump for more details and to actually break your leg when you go on stage.

Justin Long Joins James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn in the Robert Redford Period-Drama THE CONSPIRATOR

After excelling in comedy, horror, and making Mac users look like smug douchebags, Justin Long will now attempt to try his hand at drama by signing on to Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator” also starring James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn.  The story is about Confederate sympathizer Mary Surratt (Wright Penn) who was tried as a conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.  James McAvoy plays the reluctant attorney forced to represent her at a military tribunal (144-year Spoiler Alert: He didn’t do a very good job because Surratt was not only executed, but holds the dubious distinction of being the first woman executed in the United States).  Hit the jump to find out how Long figures into the conspiracy.

With the short film anthology “New York, I Love You” (a sort of sequel to “Paris, je t’aime”) set for release October 16th, Vivendi Entertainment has released a ton of clips and I’ve posted all of them after the jump. While most film’s get four to eight clips released for promotional purposes, due to how large the cast is and how each person needs a clip when promoting the movie on a talk show, the studio has released a whopping 16 clips and it’s about sixteen minutes of the movie. So if you’ve been waiting for the film, you can see a lot of it right now. If you’re not familiar with “New York, I Love You”, the film’s got a huge cast and eleven directors telling stories about New York City and love. Take a look:

Robert Redford Sets James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn Loose on Lincoln’s Legacy in THE CONSPIRATOR

A few weeks back we told you that Robert Redford, full-time Sundance czar and part-time movie maker, had picked the historical biopic “The Conspirator” as his next directorial effort.  Based on the real-life of Mary Surratt, the lone woman accused of treason and murder in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, “The Conspirator” already had the makings of a big, splashy awards movie when Redford came on board – the only thing missing was a cast whose very presence onscreen screamed “Oscar!”  I’m not sure if the names James McAvoy or Robin Wright Penn meet that specific requirement, but I am sure that Redford has made two smart and interesting choices for this film.  More after the jump.

STATE OF PLAY DVD Review

State of Play movie image.jpg

It seems that less and less, films are being made for the able-minded, thinking, adult filmgoer, while our cinemas are clogged with mindless eye candy and coma inducing special effect bores that still rake in the box office because as a whole the general public loves to escape, even if that escape is mediocre at best.  Amidst all the drivel that has come out this year there have been a few gems, some got recognition and others fell by the wayside.  “State of Play” was one of those great films that came and went in theaters and only a select lucky few caught it; I was not one of them.  Thanks to DVD however, I’ve been treated to one of the smartest and well-written political thrillers I’ve seen in years. NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU Trailer

The first trailer for Vivendi Entertainment’s “New York, I Love You” has been released. This is the film that’s like “Paris, je t’aime”, but while that one had no connective tissue, somehow “New York, I Love You” ties most or all of the short films together.

While a feature film made up of a lot of short films might not appeal to all of you, the cast is ridiculous and it’s something I can’t wait to see. If you’re curious, watch the trailer after the jump. I’ve also included all the director’s involved and the full cast:

The first poster has been released for “New York, I Love You”. This is the anthology film that features many short films about love in the city that never sleeps. While many of you might not be excited about a feature film that’s made up of only shorts, take a look at this cast:

Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Irrfan Khan, Emilie Ohana, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Maggie Q, Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, James Caan, Olivia Thirlby, Blake Lively, Drea De Matteo, Julie Christie, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Ugur Yucel, Taylor Geare, Carlos Acosta, Jacinda Barrett, Shu Qi, Burt Young, Chris Cooper, Robin Wright Penn, Eva Amurri, Eli Wallach, and Cloris Leachman

I think you just got interested. Anyway, after the jump is the poster, the synopsis, and all the directors who contributed to the project. “New York, I Love You” gets released October 16th.

Disney’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL International Trailer

The first trailer for Robert Zemeckis’s “A Christmas Carol” has leaked its way onto YouTube and until Disney pulls it, you can watch the trailer after the jump. The only thing to know before watching is, the trailer is in Italian and it was recorded with a video camera inside a movie theater. So…it’s not really the best way to watch the footage for the first time. Saying that, you can still get a good look at what Zemeckis is going for and if you enjoyed “Beowulf” and “The Polar Express”, it looks like he’s doing more of the same. I’d imagine with this trailer leaking, we’ll get the official one any day now. Until then, take a look after the jump:
