It’s rare that a film develops the type of rabid fan-following unique to fare like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but the creative team behind Queens of Country is boasting such a comparison. Having completed their post-production, filmmakers Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke (both from Blood Into Wine) are debating where to premiere the film. The announcement should be made sometime in mid-March. Queens of Country stars Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield), Ron Livingston (Office Space) and Joe Lo Truglio (Superbad) and follows a small town Arizona girl (Caplan) seeking her soul mate, the owner of a lost iPod. Hit the jump to check out the first image from Queens of Country, featuring Caplan as Jolene Gillis.

Full Trailer for HBO’s GAME CHANGE

The first full trailer for HBO’s Game Change has gone online. Directed by Jay Roach (Recount), the film follows the behind-the-scenes turmoil of the 2008 John McCain Presidential campaign. While we’ve previously seen tiny bits of Julianne Moore’s performance as Sarah Palin, this full trailer puts her front and center with stunning results. Moore has gone above and beyond here to embody the former Vice Presidential candidate, and nails all the nuances of Palin’s character. Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong previously teamed up for the stellar Recount, and it looks as though they’ve expertly executed yet another real-life political drama. While some of Palin’s behavior in the trailer might come across as staged, the film is based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s book of the same name which was the culmination of their unrivaled access to both Presidential campaigns.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Ed Harris, Woody Harrelson, Ron Livingston, Sarah Paulson, Peter MacNicol, Justin Gaston, Larry Sullivan, Jamey Sheridan, and Melissa Farman. Game Change premieres on HBO March 10th.

TIFF 2011: TEN YEAR Review

Ten-year-movie-image-slice

People tend to freak out a little when it comes to their ten year high school reunion.  They see it as a chance to make up for past regrets, prove how well they’re doing (even if they’re not), and regress a bit to the meaningless drama of our teenage years.  Jamie Linden’s Ten Year gets the meaningless drama part.  Following a group of male friends and their female appendages, Ten Year features redundant storylines, a dearth of humor, an almost total lack of creativity, and a waste of a perfectly good cast.

First in a round of TV news, after hearing The Paul Reiser Show would replace the canceled comedy series Perfect Couples, it sounds like the replacement just didn’t work. After just two episodes, The Futon Critic reports NBC has already canceled Paul Reiser’s new sitcom after very low ratings. There’s a good chance Perfect Couples may have proven to be a better option for the network after all. Now the 8:30/7:30c time slot will be filled by reruns of The Office.

8 Movie Clips from GOING THE DISTANCE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: August 18th, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Opening September 3rd is New Line Cinema’s Going the Distance.  The romantic comedy stars Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Ron Livingston, Jim Gaffigan, Kelli Garner, Rob Riggle, and Christina Applegate.  The premise is Drew Barrymore and Justin Long meet and spend a summer together, and while neither expects it to last when Barrymore has to move back to San Francisco, the new couple decides to try and make a long distance relationship work even though their family and friends are against it.

While I think almost every angle on the romantic comedy has been played out, with the R rating and Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis playing Justin Long’s friends, I’m hoping for some honest and raw dialogue that will make this rom-com worth watching. Also, never underestimate Drew Barrymore’s appeal, as women love her.  Anyway, we’ve been given eight clips from the movie and some images, so hit the jump to check them out – along with a more detailed synopsis:

3 Movie Clips, 4 TV Spots and Behind the Scenes Footage from DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS

by David Lane    Posted: July 11th, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Paramount and DreamWorks have released 3 movie clips, 4 TV spots and some B-Roll (Behind the Scenes Footage) from director Jay Roach’s Dinner for Schmucks.  The film is based on the French film film Le Diner de Cons and it tells the story of Tim (Paul Rudd), a guy on the verge of having it all.  The only thing standing between him and total career success is finding the perfect guest to bring to his boss’ annual Dinner for Extraordinary People, an event where the winner of the evening brings the most eccentric character as his guest.  Enter Barry (Steve Carell), a guy with a passion for dressing mice up in tiny outfits to recreate great works of art. The film also stars Jemaine Clement, Zach Galifianakis, Jeff Dunham, Bruce Greenwood, Ron Livingston, Stephanie Szostak, and Lucy Davenport.  Hit the jump to watch all the videos.  Dinner For Schmucks gets release July 30.

New Trailer for DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS Starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd

Paramount has released a new trailer for Dinner For Schmucks, the comedy in which co-workers compete to bring the “most eccentric” guest to an annual dinner.  The comedy stars Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, with a supporting cast that features Zach Galifianakis, Jemaine Clement, and Ron Livingston.  Jay Roach (Meet the Fockers) directs from a screenplay by David Guion and Michael Handelman (Fast Track).

The trailer wastes a good thirty seconds pretending it’s teasing a suspenseful drama, but once they get into comedy there are some laughs to be had (“It’s already cramped”).  Schmucks looks profoundly stupid, but that of course does not prevent it from being profoundly funny.  Check out the trailer after the jump.

The first trailer for Going the Distance, starring real life on and off again-ers Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, is making its rounds online. The romantic comedy follows the story of a summer fling that extends into a full-on long distance relationship.

Not exactly your cup of tea? Give it a shot. I was about to turn off the trailer when Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) popped in and saved the day (pun intended. I apologize.).  The film will be the first fictional feature by Oscar-nominated, documentary director Nanette Burstein (American Teen, The Kid Stays in the Picture) and has an excellent supporting cast including Day, Christina Applegate, Ron Livingston, Jason Sudeikis, Jim Gaffigan, and Rob Riggle.

The film hits theaters on August 27th, 2010. Just in time for you to end your summer fling. Hit the jump for the full synopsis and to check out the trailer:

Collider Goes to the Set of DEFYING GRAVITY Part 2

by David Kobylanski    Posted: August 25th, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Defying Gravity image (14).jpg

And now the conclusion (here’s part one)… As if it wasn’t all enough to impress, Julia appealed to my filmmaker soul and invited me back into the building that held the production offices but now into the warehouse part of it. There they were in the midst of filming and mist of a fog machine as my eyes adjusted to the darkness of coming from the beaming sunlight. They were filming one of the last scenes with Sturla Gunnarsoon (Rare Birds, Beowulf & Grendel) directing. It was the set of Major Tom’s (the name being a nod to a famous song): a bar where some of the flashbacks will apparently go to. You may think of this as minor but flashbacks will play an important part for this series as they run parallel to the present timeframe of the story. A lot of the crew of the Antares/main cast of the show was there. It took them the entire day to film from various angles what will probably be a minute of footage on television when it airs. I just loved it all. Read my report after the jump:

Collider Goes to the Set of DEFYING GRAVITY Part I

Defying Gravity image (14).jpg

In late May I was put in touch with a representative to setup a visit to the set of a new show called “Defying Gravity”. The date kept shifting between two days due to production changes, but a week before either, I got sick and it nearly kept me from going. But by June 10, the last day of principal photography aside from re-shoots; I defied the odds and visited the set. But rather than offer you a boring set report filled with just the facts, I wrote my report like a journal entry. So if you’re curious what going to the set of a new high concept TV show was like, after the jump is part one of my report. Hope you enjoy it:
