Universal has released the first trailer for the thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. The story centers on a young CIA agent (Reynolds) who must team up with the dangerous criminal in order to survive when their safe house is destroyed by mercenaries. The trailer goes heavy on the action, but it looks like director Daniel Espinosa (Snabba Cash) has done a great job. But the biggest hook is the dynamic between Washington and Reynolds. Few actors have as much fun playing the bad guy as Washington and he clearly relishes flipping between charm and malevolence on a dime. My only complaint with the trailer is that it shows a little too much, but overall I like what I’m seeing.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the larger version of the poster and image released yesterday, plus two new images. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Vera Farmiga, Fares Fares, Robert Patrick, Nora Arnezeder, Liam Cunningham, Joel Kinnaman, and Ruben Blades. Safe House opens February 10, 2012.

In what will be his first Hollywood film since 2003′s Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Rubén Blades has signed on to star in the Universal Pictures thriller Safe House. TheWrap reports that Blades will join a cast that already features Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Nora Arnezeder, and Indian Outlaw-turned-actor Tim McGraw (“Indian Outlaw” quip brought to you courtesy of my curiously large amount of worthless country music knowledge).
Due out February 10, 2012, Safe House follow a CIA agent (Reynolds) who must transport a dangerous criminal (Washington) to safety. Daniel Espinosa (Snabba Cash) will direct David Guggenheim’s 2010 Black List script.

On one hand it’s great Fox has been releasing their catalog titles in 1080p and in DTS looking great. On the other hand, they haven’t put in that much work to jazz it up for audiences buying it a second time. None of the films here have anything new, but all look appreciably better in their Blu-ray iterations. After the jump are my reviews of “Predator 2″, “Fargo” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” on Blu-ray.
