Filming has quietly begun in Florida on the indie drama Renee. Starring Chad Michael Murray, Kat Dennings, Rupert Friend (Pride and Predjudice) and Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), the film tells the true story of Renne Yohe, whose depression/addiction led to the creation of the charity organization To Write Love on Her Arms. Here’s what to expect from the film, per the press release:

The story follows 19-year-old Renee (played by Kat Dennings) who has always loved fairy tales: the idea of a princess, a hero and a happily ever after. But Renee’s life is that of a darker tale:  she’s a young woman battling addiction, depression and self-injury.  In a creative blend of artistic fantasy balanced with harsh reality, the movie follows Renee on her courageous journey towards recovery.

Nathan Frankowski (the Ben Stein “intelligent design” documentary Expelled) directs from a script he co-wrote with Kate King Lynch. The film will be told in juxtaposition between “gritty realities and rich fantasies”, with music appearances by Rachel Yamagata and Travie McCoy (Gym Class Heroes).  Hit the jump for the full press release.

Rupert Friend on Renny Harlin’s GEORGIA

the_young_victoria_movie_image_Rupert_friend (3).jpgA theater-trained Brit, Rupert Friend wanted to be so many different things growing up that he decided to become an actor so that he could just play them all. During the press day for the soon to be released The Young Victoria, the actor talked about having just made the film Georgia, about the recent conflict between Georgia and Russia, and helmed by director Renny Harlin, where he plays an American war correspondent who gets captured and accused of being a spy.

Of working with Harlin, he says that he really enjoyed the experience because, instead of the filmmaker’s usual tendency to use CGI, they were instead surrounded by real Apache helicopters, tanks and the Georgian military.

Check out what he had to say after the jump:

CHÉRI Review

“Chéri” is not the film that I typically go for.  It’s a period drama set in Paris in the 1920s and focuses on the lives of former courtesans and the relationship one has with the son of another.  And yet “Chéri” had me hooked throughout with the combination of Stephen Frears’ skillful direction and Michelle Pfeiffer turning in one of the best performances of her career.
