A new trailer has been released for Ron Howard’s racing drama, Rush.  The film takes place in the world of Formula One racing, and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).  The previous trailer basically showed the entire movie, but thankfully this one focuses on the speed of F1 racing and aggressiveness of the drivers.  Clearly, the movie won’t shy away from the personal drama of the lead characters, but I’m curious to see how Howard has handled the intensity of the racing scenes.  Judging by this trailer, he’s done a bang-up job.

• Carrie – A new UK poster for director Kimberly Peirce’s remake shows the intensity of star Chloe Grace Moretz.  The film also stars Julianne Moore and opens on October 18th.

From time to time I like to use the opening paragraph to discuss my latest screenprint investments and/or dream items. This week I’m playing a similar note as I recently picked up Olly Moss‘ “Batman’s Rogues Gallery” set on eBay for very close to what the timed edition went for originally. Those of you who follow posters and prints know how redeeming it can be to finally get an item you originally missed out on without having to pay exponentially more than its original asking price. Now, if only Ken Taylor‘s Halloween print would stop being so rare/expensive, I could officially run out of room on my walls.

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for director Ron Howard’s racing drama Rush.  The film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).  This trailer plays much better than the previous U.K. trailer, as we get a better sense of the individual character struggles in addition to Howard’s impressive visuals.  The racing sequences certainly look to be intense, but the highlight of this trailer for me is hearing some of Hans Zimmer‘s fantastic-sounding score.  As Matt noted previously, the key to the film’s success will be whether we care about the characters, so here’s hoping Rush is more Apollo 13 than The Da Vinci Code.

A batch of new images from Universal Pictures’ upcoming racing drama Rush has been released online.  Directed by Ron Howard, the film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).  We got our first glimpse at footage by way of a U.K. trailer last week, but Universal is poised to drop the domestic trailer tomorrow and they’ve unveiled these images as an appetizer.  Hemsworth looks sufficiently handsome as notorious playboy Hunt, while Brühl appears to bring a fair amount of intensity to the Lauda role.

The first trailer for Ron Howard’s Rush is now online.  The film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).  It’s tough for me to get excited about Howard’s films since he hasn’t made a great one since Apollo 13.  He does have the talent to tell a good story, but after watching the trailer for Rush, the question remains: will we care about the rivalry between Lauda and Hunt, or will we just talk about the excellence of the racing scenes?

Now playing is director Tom Hooper’s fantastic adaptation of Les Miserables.  Loaded with great performances and top notch filmmaking, Les Mis is absolutely a contender for all the year end awards and it would shock me if Anne Hathaway doesn’t win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her incredible work as Fantine.  Her one take rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” was incredible and it’s the type of performance that’s unforgettable.  For more on the film, here are five clips, Matt’s review, and all our previous coverage.

At the recent NYC press day for the film I did an exclusive interview with producer Eric Fellner (who runs Working Title with Tim Bevan).  Since Sid and Nacy in 1986, Fellner has produced 100 movies and he shows no signs of slowing down.  During the interview we talked about how Les Mis came together, the way the industry has changed over the past decade, whether VOD and online streaming become a real revenue stream, if we could eventually get an extended cut of Les Mis (the first assembly cut was four hours!), and more.  In addition, with Fellner producing so many other projects, I got updates on the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy sequel, Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, Ron Howard’s Rush, Richard Curtis‘ About Time, Everest and more.  Hit the jump to either listen to the audio or read the transcript.

Though director Ron Howard dabbled in lighter romantic comedy fare for his last film (2011’s The Dilemma), he’s getting back into the period groove with his next feature, Rush.  The film takes place in the world of Formula 1 racing and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).  Production wrapped earlier this year, but we have to wait until next September before the pic hits theaters.

Steve recently interviewed producer Eric Fellner in anticipation of the release of Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation Les Miserables, and Fellner talked a bit about Rush.  He revealed that he’s seen a nearly completed cut of the film, teased a standout performance from Brühl, and talked about the film’s promising test scores.  Hit the jump for more.

• Rush – Director Ron Howard’s 1970s drama focuses on the rivalry between Formula 1 racers James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl).  The film opens September 20th, 2013.
• Can a Song Save Your Life? – This uplifting music-centered drama comes from Once director John Carney and centers on the relationship between a struggling musician (Keira Knightley) and a music producer (Mark Ruffalo) in New York City.  The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine, and Catherine Keener.
• Thérèse – This adaptation of the classic novel stars Elizabeth Olsen as a young woman trapped in an arranged marriage who conspires with her lover (Oscar Isaac) to dispose of her sickly cousin husband (Tom Felton).  Jessica Lange also stars.

• Oblivion, from director Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko, has been moved up a week from April 26th, 2013 to April 19th, 2013.  The film will screen exclusively in IMAX for one week starting on April 12th.
• Rush, the Forumula 1 racing picture from Ron Howard and starring Chris Hemsworth has a new release date of September 20th, 2013.
• Mama, a horror film directed by Andres Muschietti and produced by Guillermo del Toro, has been pushed from October of this year to January 18th, 2013.  The picture stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jessica Chastain.
• The Perks of Being a Wallflower, from writer/director Stephen Chbosky and starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, has been pushed back a week from September 14th to September 21st of this year.

Formula One racing season is in full swing, and so is production on Ron Howard‘s F1 drama Rush starring Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Brühl, and Olivia Wilde.  The film chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian F1 driver Niki Lauda (Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Hemsworth).  I’m not into racing here in the states since I’m more interested in the sport of paint-drying than watching cars go around a track 500 times.  But in Europe, F1 is far more exhilarating since the cars travel around twists and turns rather than going left for 18 hours.  Last year’s documentary Senna made me more interested in the sport, and a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Rush has me hoping that Howard has captured that same sense of excitement.

A few weeks ago we brought you a roundup of some great images from the set of Ron Howard’s Formula 1 racing drama Rush, and now some video has surfaced from one of the scenes in question.  The film chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian F1 driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth), and this video shows Hemsworth and Olivia Wilde (who plays his squeeze) filming a scene together.  Howard has been sharing a large amount of photos from the set via his personal Twitter account, but this video comes from an unofficial onlooker.  Though I’ve found the director’s recent output to be a bit disappointing, I love the cast he’s put together here and I’m excited to see the finished product
