Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington & Meaghan Rath Talk BEING HUMAN Season Two

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 29th, 2012 at 9:20 am

The drama series Being Human is back for Season 2 on Syfy, as the three supernatural friends struggle with their double lives, in ways that get darker than ever before. Vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer) is dealing with the fall-out from the death of his vampire maker by having to train the ruthless Vampire Queen’s disgraced daughter (played by Dichen Lachman), werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington) is dealing with the revelation that he scratched his girlfriend Nora (Kristen Hager), and ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath) grows more powerful and independent with the help of some new ghostly friends who send her down a dark and destructive path.

During a recent exclusive interview with Collider, co-stars Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath talked about the individual paths their characters are headed down this season, how the series has really developed into its own thing this season, totally independent from its UK counterpart, how their individual storylines will affect their dynamic as a group, and whether or not they think their characters will get to a point where they’re happy with who they are. This is the story of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost, picked to live in a house to see if they can stop being monsters and start Being Human. In last year’s first season of the American version of UK hit, Being Human, audiences were introduced to the vampire, Aidan (Sam Witwer); the werewolf, Josh (Sam Huntington) and resident ghost, Sally (Meaghan Rath). The supernatural trio spent 13episodes dealing with their respective addictions that formed the central theme of the first season. In season two, they face even stronger temptations as new complications arise. The Boston brownstone becomes even more crowded with new ghosts, a surprise werewolf and rowdy vampires stirring up trouble. And you thought your roommates were bad. Being Human returns to SyFy Monday night, January 16th at 9PM Eastern. Hit the jump to check out a preview of season two.

SyFy Renews BEING HUMAN for a Second Season

After giving the first few episodes a fairly positive review, unfortunately time got away from me and I haven’t stayed on top of SyFy’s new “original” series, the remake of the British imported Being Human. However, there’s good news for fans who have been more loyal and responsible than I have as Syfy has just announced that they’ve renewed the series for a second season. In addition, the series premiere was the networks’ most successful winter season scripted series launch in six years and apparently it has become the network’s most successful series with their female demographic.

If you haven’t followed the series, it focuses on three supernatural roommates, a vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer), a ghost Sally Meaghan Rath) and a werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington), who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone. Together they learn that there are fates worse than death and more to life – and the afterlife – than most “normal” humans could ever imagine. See the official press release after the jump.

Sam Witwer Exclusive Interview BEING HUMAN

On SyFy’s re-imagining of the popular British television series Being Human, premiering on January 17th, actor Sam Witwer plays Aidan, a seemingly young man who has worked as a nurse in a hospital in Boston for the past several years, but in reality is an over 200-year-old vampire that is trying to sustain himself by not killing humans. While at work, the normally closed-off Aidan meets Josh (Sam Huntington), whose own future was hijacked the instant he was turned into a werewolf. The friendship the two have formed leads to a new sense of normalcy for them both, and they decide to be roommates in a place that they discover is already inhabited by the ghost of its last resident, Sally (Meaghan Rath).

During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Sam Witwer, previously known for his work as Doomsday on The CW series Smallville, talked about how proud he is of his work on Being Human, what it’s like to play a vampire that’s over 200 years old, how quickly he bonded with his co-stars, and his hope that viewers will tune in and give the show a chance, since it is quite different from the original. BEING HUMAN Series Premiere Review

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: January 17th, 2011 at 6:26 pm

At a time when pop culture is plagued by an onslaught of vampires and werewolves sweeping women off their feet, a fresh take on these familiar monsters is always welcome. While True Blood may have the market cornered on brutal violence and eroticism between these mythical creatures, Being Human steps into the ring with surprising success. Being Human follows the exploits and struggles of a werewolf named Josh (Sam Huntington), a vampire named Aidan (Sam Witwer) and a ghost named Sally (Meaghan Rath) as they live together and console each other while figuring out where they belong in the world. It sounds like a silly idea at first, but if you give Being Human time, this is a SyFy series that is something special to behold. Find out why below.

Mark Pellegrino Interview BEING HUMAN

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 17th, 2011 at 7:14 am

On the new SyFy television series Being Human, adapted from the popular British series of the same name, actor Mark Pellegrino plays Bishop, a powerful vampire who is over 300 years old. He is the leader of a vicious vampire legion in Boston, but no amount of power will satisfy him until he lures Aidan (Sam Witwer), who has sworn off killing humans for blood, back into his fold of thirsty blood hunters.

While at the SyFy portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Mark Pellegrino, who is best known for playing Jacob on Lost and Lucifer on Supernatural, talked about the appeal of this new character, his decision not to watch the original series before developing his role, finding the balance between the darkness and the humor on the series, and how close the cast has become. He also shared his favorite memory from his time on Lost. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Meaghan Rath Exclusive Interview BEING HUMAN

On SyFy’s re-imagining of the popular BBC television series Being Human, Montreal native Meaghan Rath plays a ghost named Sally, who is a young woman searching for the truth behind her early demise. In life, she was vivacious, smart, funny, driven and excited about her engagement to her college sweetheart. She now lives in the apartment they once shared, along with a vampire named Aidan (Sam Witwer) and a werewolf named Josh (Sam Huntington/read our interview with him here), as she learns to navigate her new ghostly existence.

In a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Meaghan Rath talked about how excited she is to be a part of Being Human, how she hopes that fans of the original series will gave this version a chance, the fact that 13 episodes will give them a chance to expand and add storylines, and the unusual challenge of playing a character that no one can touch because she is a ghost. SyFy’s Series Remake of BEING HUMAN Premieres January 17th

SyFy is ready to tout their original programming for the New Year as 2010 comes to an end, but a remake of a British series doesn’t exactly scream “original” to me. That being said, the network has announced the premiere of the US version of the original BBC series Being Human on Monday, January 17th at 9/8c. The supernatural series follows the dynamic lives of three paranormal roommates: a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf and their difficulties with living double lives. Stepping into these new personalities won’t be easy, but they’re certainly up for the task and journey that lies ahead. Sam Witwer (Smallville), Meaghan Rath (The Assistants), Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) star in the series, and you can see them in a short trailer for the new series below.

SMALLVILLE Eighth Season Blu-Ray Review

by Nico    Posted: August 27th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

I am a comic book nerd.  That’s no news.  I see all the movies and buy far too many comic books for the limited space I have to keep them in.  I joined Smallville in its infancy and stuck through a couple seasons.  I liked the friendship between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor that the series started off with and the slow unraveling of that bond, but ultimately the meteorite powered villain of the week got tired.  The series had the whole DC Universe as a sandbox to play in and didn’t.  That oversight is rectified this season… in spades.
