Pee-Wee Herman, Sean Bean, James Wan & Leigh Whannel interview scream awards 2011 slice

Last weekend Collider hit the red carpet at the Scream Awards. The event was held in a massive outdoor theater on the Universal back lot, right around the corner from the Bates Motel and just in front of the giant blue screen they used for the end of The Truman Show. If you’ve taken the studio tour, you probably know the place.

While on the red carpet, we got a chance to talk to Game of Thrones star Sean Bean, Pee-Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens and Saw and Insidious creators James Wan and Leigh Whannel. The artists told us about returning from the dead on Thrones, the relation of LSD to Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, 3D remakes of Jaws, biopics of famous Demonologists and much more.  Hit the jump for the interviews.

Exclusive: Oren Peli on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2; Does he Think it Can be a Franchise Like SAW and What is He Working on Now?

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 20th, 2010 at 9:38 am

Before getting to speak with writer-director Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) on the red carpet at this year’s Scream Awards, I was told he was pretty guarded when talking about future projects.  They were not wrong.  That’s because while Peli was more than happy to talk about his involvement in Paranormal Activity 2 and whether or not the films could become a franchise like Saw, when I started asking him questions about his follow up film, Area 51, he immediately started to stonewall me.  I’ve interviewed a number of people over the last few years and most are willing to at least acknowledge their next project…not Peli.

However, while he wouldn’t tell me anything on Area 51, we did talk about whether or not he’s willing to direct something he didn’t write, is he going to only work in the studio system, could he see a Paranormal Activity 3 next Halloween, and is he writing other projects.  Hit the jump watch what he had to say.  As usual, I’ve time indexed the interview so you can watch the parts that interest you.

Exclusive: Wes Craven Talks SCREAM 4 at the Scream Awards; Says the Film Looks Back at the Last Ten Years of Horror

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 19th, 2010 at 9:57 pm

At this year’s Scream Awards, I was able to land a few minutes with director Wes Craven on the red carpet.  As most of you are well aware, Craven just wrapped principal photography on Scream 4 and while he was a bit guarded about saying too much about the plot, he did reveal the movie “is a lot about looking back at the last ten years of horror and comparing it and contrasting it and having fun with it.”  He also said the word “meta” is used a fair amount in the movie.  We also talked about the struggle trying to keep the film a mystery with all the paparazzi and fans trying to take pictures of the cast on the set.

Hit the jump to watch the interview.  He also revealed he just saw the editors assembly of the movie…

Exclusive: James Wan and Leigh Whannell Talk About the Success of SAW, INSIDIOUS, and Reveal They’re Doing a Sci-Fi Film Next Year!

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 18th, 2010 at 8:39 pm

In 2004, director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell released a small movie called Saw.  After the enormous success of the first Saw, Lionsgate has released a Saw sequel every Halloween with Saw 3D getting released October 29.  The films have gone on to gross over $600 million at the worldwide box office.

Cut to this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. At this year’s Festival, the two filmmakers premiered their new haunted house movie Insidious to incredible reviews and almost immediately after the film premiered, Sony bought the movie and they’re going to release it around the world.  Not bad for a genre most considered dead.

So when I was able to speak to them at this year’s Scream Awards, we talked about both the Saw franchise and Insidious. While that was cool, towards the end of the interview, Whannell revealed their next film is going to be sci-fi and they’re hoping to shoot it next year!  Hit the jump for more:

Exclusive: Geoff Johns talks GREEN LANTERN (1 and 2), DC Movies and TV Shows, and a Lot More at the 2010 Scream Awards

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 17th, 2010 at 2:58 pm

If you’re a fan of DC superheroes and curious what the company is doing to bring more of their characters to movie and television screens, you’re going to like the interview I did with Geoff Johns last night at the 2010 Scream Awards.  While most will recognize Johns name because he writes a number of DC comics every month, he’s also the Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, so he’s one of the few that shapes what direction DC is going in the future.

During the interview we talked about what announcements will be coming and when, is the upcoming Green Lantern trailer a teaser or a full trailer, how tough is it to work on Green Lantern 2 since the first film isn’t finished, what’s the status of Green Lantern and the 3D post conversion, will DC be putting more of their superheroes on TV, what is he writing, will DC superhero movies always be tentpoles (huge budget movies) or will they possibly release lesser known characters as smaller budgeted films, and a lot more.  Again, if you’re a DC fan, you want to hit the jump:

Jackson Rathbone and Nikki Reed Talk BREAKING DAWN and More at the 2010 SCREAM AWARDS

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 17th, 2010 at 2:08 pm

At last night’s Scream Awards, I managed to interview both Jackson Rathbone and Nikki Reed on the red carpet before the show.  At first I didn’t know Nikki Reed was there as the interview started with Rathbone.  However, a minute or so in, Reed snuck her way in and that’s when I tried to find out how The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is going.  They revealed filming hasn’t yet begun on the final installment, but they both called the script “amazing.”  They also don’t know when they start yet.  In case you’re not aware, Rathbone plays Jasper Hale and Reed plays Rosalie Hale.

Rathbone also talked about his band 100 Monkeys and how Reed is going to direct an upcoming video for the band.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.  It’s time indexed so you can watch the parts that interest you:

Scream 2010 to Show World Premiere Footage from SCREAM 4, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, and THE RITE

by Jason Barr    Posted: September 29th, 2010 at 10:57 am

With its 5th annual “Scream Awards” only weeks away, Spike TV is building momentum for its latest incarnation “Scream 2010.”  At the beginning of the month, the show announced its nominees.  Today, Spike has revealed that “Scream 2010″ will feature world premiere footage from Scream 4, Paranormal Activity 2, and The Rite.  In case that isn’t compelling enough television for Spike to earn your rating points, the awards ceremony is also set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future with guest appearances from cast members including Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, and Elisabeth Shue.  Other confirmed attendees include Wes Craven, Aaron Eckhart, and Sigourney Weaver.

Per the giant picture at the top of the article, “Scream 2010″ premieres on Spike TV October 19th at 9pm ET.  As for the footage premiering, Scream 4 is scheduled to open April 15th of next year, Paranormal Activity 2 will release in a few weeks on October 22nd, and The Rite starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Rutger Hauer hits theaters January 28th, 2011.  Also, keep in mind that the “Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy” releases on Blu-ray/DVD October 26th.  Hit the jump to check out the full press release.

Spike TV Announces Nominees for SCREAM 2010

by Jason Barr    Posted: September 1st, 2010 at 9:18 pm

The nominees for Spike TV’s “Scream 2010” have been announced and Christopher Nolan’s Inception leads all films with fourteen nominations.  While there are certainly more prestigious awards that films (especially Inception) would like to be honored with, the award show always looks like a good time from my couch and I imagine it’s nice to be recognized for your work regardless of the outlet.  Moreover, while fans may vote for the winners, the nominees themselves are chosen by an advisory board made up of industry professionals including: Tim Burton, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Neil Gaiman, Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino, and Joss Whedon.  In short, it’s not like the kind people at Spike are calling me up asking for my opinion on who deserves a “Scream” nod (Note: I am available just in case though).

Officially, the “Scream Awards” honor “the best in sci-fi, fantasy, comics, and horror” and will air on Spike on October 19th.  In addition, they are responsible for one of the few times a year that I feel compelled to watch Spike TV (I’ll admit to occasionally indulging in an episode or five of Pros vs. Joes).  To check out the press release which includes a full list of this year’s nominees, hit the jump.

Eli Roth, Jamie King and Chris Massoglia.jpg

At last night’s 2009 Scream Awards in Hollywood, I managed to interview tons of people on the red carpet. Unfortunately, some of the interviews were kind of short. So instead of posting them individually, I’ve grouped them together and after the jump you can watch Eli Roth, Jamie King and Chris Massoglia.

Eli Roth talked about how he just joined Twitter and I asked him if he’s finally decided on his next project. Jamie King talked about “Mother’s Day” and how she’s writing a blog on the L.A. Times website. And Chris Massoglia revealed that he’s in Zac Efron’s “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” and he plays a small but important part towards the end of the movie. Kunal Nayyar talks THE BIG BANG THEORY at the 2009 Scream Awards

A show I really love is “The Big Bang Theory”. While the first two seasons were good, this latest season has been the best so far. That’s because it feels like the writers have found all the characters voices and they’re delivering some of the best situational comedy on TV. The fact is…if you read a site like Collider and you’re not watching “The Big Bang Theory”, you’re missing out on a show that you’d really like.

Anyway, at last night’s 2009 Scream Awards, I managed to speak with Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali on “Big Bang Theory”) and we talked about how this season has been going and a lot more. Watch the interview after the jump:
