Magnolia Pictures has provided us with the first clip from I’m Still Here, Casey Affleck’s documentary about Joaquin Phoenix going nuts and becoming a rapper.  Or maybe it was a stunt.  Unfortunately, I missed my screening of the film, so I can’t say which (and perhaps after seeing it, I still won’t know for sure). However, I’ll definitely be going to see it because the premise is too fascinating to pass up.

Hit the jump to check out the clip, which has Phoenix talking about the finer points of recording an album with Sean “Diddy” Combs.  I’m Still Here opens in limited release on Friday and will be available on Video-on-Demand on September 24th.

GET HIM TO THE GREEK Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 3rd, 2010 at 10:12 pm

Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek explodes with energy and spends the first two thirds filled with hilarious jokes, fantastic comic set-ups, and brilliant comedic performances from stars Jonah Hill and Russell Brand.  You also have Sean Combs of all people almost stealing the movie.  However, while the first two thirds of the film are painfully funny, the third act grinds the picture to a halt and only the immense talents of Hill and Brand get Get Him to the Greek to the finish line.

Writer Director Nicholas Stoller On Set Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK

If you’re nervous that Nicholas Stoller’s (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) second film would somehow disappoint, I’m happy to report Get Him to the Greek is extremely funny and definitely worth seeing.   Since we’ve been covering the film a lot over the past few months (here’s my set report, a bunch of new images, on set interviews with Jonah Hill, Russell Brand and writer/director Nicholas Stoller) I’d like to think most of you are familiar with the film and are excited to see it.  But for the three people that have no idea what it’s about, watch this awesome red band trailer.  Trust me, you’ll laugh a lot.

So with the film about to come out, I recently got to talk on the phone with Nicholas Stoller for an extended interview.  We talked about Get Him to the Greek and all his future projects (Muppets, Stretch Armstrong, more).  He also talked about how he got started writing, what it was like to edit Greek, what it’s really like to make a movie, and so much more.  Hit the jump to either read the transcript or listen to the audio:

Last weekend I got to participate in a roundtable interview with Russell Brand for the very funny comedy Get Him to the Greek.  Since we’ve been covering the film extensively over the past few months (here’s my set report, a bunch of new images, on set interviews with Jonah Hill, Russell Brand and writer/director Nicholas Stoller) I’d like to think most of you are familiar with the film and are excited to see it next weekend.  But for the three people that have no idea, watch this awesome red band trailer and read the synopsis.  Trust me, the film is worth your hard earned money.

Anyway, while some actors/comedians might shy away from their past, or try and push an interview towards certain subjects or agendas, Brand answered every question with brutal honesty.  Subjects ranged from his past drug use to his recent battles in England over some prank phone calls.  No subject was off limits.  Also, the guy is incredibly sharp and very funny.  If you have the time, I really suggest listening to this interview rather than reading the transcript.  It’s a good one.  Hit the jump to check it out:

If you’ve been reading Collider the past few days, you may have noticed it was Get Him to the Greek week.  That’s because last June, Universal invited a few online reporters to set when they were filming at the famous Greek Theater in Hollywood.  I’ve already posted my set report, a bunch of new images, on set interviews with Jonah Hill and writer/director Nicholas Stoller, and now it’s time for my final interview with Aldous Snow – otherwise known as Russell Brand.

While it was the middle of the night and Brand had been working non-stop, he couldn’t have been nicer.  We talked about playing Aldous Snow again, shooting around the world, recording the music, working with Jonah Hill and Sean Combs, and so much more.  It’s a great interview.  You can either read or listen to it after the jump:

Collider Goes to the Set of GET HIM TO THE GREEK and Watches Infant Sorrow Perform

The crowd is screaming.  On stage the lights and smoke make it seem like the band is about to come out.  We see the illuminated sign for Infant Sorrow. After a few moments, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) comes out wearing a coat with no shirt.  He starts to sing and the crowd goes crazy.  If I didn’t see all the cameras and the hundreds of grips and production people, I would have thought it was a real concert.  I’m very impressed.

But let me back up a second.

It’s June 16, 2009 and I’m hanging out at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.  It’s a cool summer night and I’ve been invited – along with a few other online reporters – to the set of writer/director Nicholas Stoller’s (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) Get Him to the Greek.   While set visits are usually very private and intimate, Universal invited us on a night they were filming with 1,300 extras.  Let’s just say it was an awesome night to visit the set.  Hit the jump for more:

Jonah Hill On Set Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK – Also Talks THE ADVENTURER’S HANDBOOK, His Career, Sequels, and SO Much More

Last June I got to visit the set of writer/director Nick Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek while the production was filming at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.  While I sometimes travel across the country to watch a movie getting made, for this set visit, I needed to drive about 15 minutes from my apartment.

Anyway, when you do a set visit, you usually get to interview the cast.  That’s normal.  What isn’t normal is getting an hour with one of the leads!  But that’s what happened backstage at the Greek Theater as Jonah Hill gave the group of online reporters on the visit an awesome extended interview that covered absolutely everything.  From how Get Him to the Greek came together, to his love for Back to the Future 2, we practically covered all of his projects on IMDb – including The Adventurer’s Handbook.

If you’re a fan of Jonah Hill, I promise you will love this interview.  Hit the jump to read the transcript or listen to the audio.

Universal has provided us with a bunch of new images from writer/director Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek.  Starring Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Elisabeth Moss, Rose Byrne, Colm Meaney and Sean Combs, the comedy gets released this June and I’m extremely confident we’re all going to love it.  How do I know this?  Well, I’ve seen the awesome red band and green band trailers, and I also got to do a set visit last year where I got to speak with the cast (here’s my interview with Jonah Hill) and writer/director Nicholas Stoller.  Everything I saw and learned on set tells me this is going to be a winner.

Hit the jump to check out all the images Universal has released.  Also, you might notice one image looks out of place.  That’s because one is the online reporters (including me) that got to do the set visit at the Greek Theater.  When we took the photo, we were on stage in front of hundreds of extras watching us.  It was very cool.

The first trailer for Get Him to the Greek has finally been released and if you were a fan of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you’re going to want to see this.  That’s because Rock Star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand’s character in Sarah Marshall) is back and he’s got 72 hours to get from London to his comeback concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Escorting him is Jonah Hill, and as you might imagine…they get into a lot of trouble along the way.  Trust me, this thing looks awesome.

Written and directed by Nicholas Stoller (Sarah Marshall), the film also stars Elisabeth Moss, Rose Byrne, Colm Meaney and Sean Combs.  Hit the jump for a ton of new images, the poster, and the just released trailer:

Universal Releases Synopses for GREEN ZONE, MACGRUBER, UNTITLED ROBIN HOOD ADVENTURE, GET HIM TO THE GREEK, YOUR HIGHNESS

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 12th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

GREEN ZONE, MACGRUBER, UNTITLED ROBIN HOOD ADVENTURE, GET HIM TO THE GREEK, YOUR HIGHNESS.jpg

Universal Studios has released synopses  for some of their major 2010 films and the two that are especially worth reading are “MacGruber” and Ridley Scott’s “Untitled Robin Hood Adventure”. While it might surprise you to hear this, a few people have told me “MacGruber” is going to shock everyone next year as it’s a super-violent, hard-R movie. Also, I’ve heard there are many lines that we’re all going to quote. Did I mention Val Kilmer plays the villain and his name is Dieter Von Cunth? I know, I know–I am just as shocked to report SNL’s “MacGruber” might be a great movie.

As for Ridley Scott’s “Untitled Robin Hood Adventure”, this synopsis is the first real story details I’m hearing about the plot. Since I haven’t watched every version of “Robin Hood”, I’ll let the synopses  do the talking, but I’m pretty sure we’re going to get a better version than Kevin Costner’s “Prince of Thieves”.  Hit the jump for not only “MacGruber” and “Untitled Robin Hood Adventure”, but “Green Zone” starring Matt Damon, “Get Him to the Greek” starring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill, and “Your Highness” starring Danny McBride, James Franco, and Natalie Portman.
