BURN NOTICE: SEASON THREE DVD Review

If you’ve read my DVD reviews for season one and season two of USA’s Burn Notice, then you know that I’m kind of in love with the show.  It has a formula and it (mostly) continues to work due to strong performances and sharp writing.  What I like most about the Burn Notice is that it’s redefined my notion of what a spy thriller can be.  It doesn’t negate a show like Chuck or the James Bond movies, but its matter-of-fact tone is a fresh take on the genre that you won’t find anywhere else.

Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) says in the show’s intro, “As long as you’re burned, you’re not going anywhere.”  Hit the jump for my take on where Burn Notice went in its third season.

USA Renews BURN NOTICE for Two More Seasons

USA Network is feeling the burn.  Although the fourth season of Burn Notice, the top-rated show on cable, has not yet finished production, President of Original Programming, Jeffrey Watchel, has re-upped the veteran series for seasons 5 and 6, each running at least 15 and 18 episodes, respectively.  As Watchel told Variety, “Once Saturday Night Live makes fun of you, how can you not committ to extra seasons?”  More after the jump:

I’ll keep saying it till it isn’t true: “Burn Notice” is one of the best shows on television.  It’s unbelievably smart, confident, cool, funny, and exciting.  I’m not surprised that fourth-place NBC hasn’t had the smarts to try and grab the show from USA (which is owned by NBC-Universal) and test it out on network primetime where it could have a chance of doing some serious damage.  But for now it’s one of the highest-rated shows on cable and with good reason.
